  • ...we're lost children, of the sea...

  • i love that guns n roses / slash guitar sound

  • i love that guns n roses sound :X

  • This amp is now for sale.....contact dan or myself

  • Would this mod work well in an old or reissue SLP?

  • @DB73093 Absolutely, SLP's are a great platform for the Cali Mod :-)

  • @DanGower88 Does the cali or hulk mod add SS gain to boost the signal? Or are all of these marshall mods all tube. I've seen the Randy Rhoads SLP uses SS as a boost.

  • @DB73093 Actually the Rhoads SLP is all tube, it doesn't use any SS in the preamp. It is simply a 1959 circuit, but with the channels cascade in series for more gain. Similar in a way to the 2203, except the Rhoads SLP has no Master volume.

The Cali Mod has a Saturation switch which engages a clip circuit similar to some of the old Jose mods.

  • Is that the volume box your using on top?

  • @ChristianBurrell No that wasn't hooked up to the amp during the video. Just guitar into amp into cab :-)

  • Congratulations !!!! Great sound!!! I'm from Brasil and I'd be glad to get your mods, my e-mail is jandir_montech@hotmail.com. I've got a ESP with EMGs pickups, it would speak loud with such an amp. Cheers!!

  • @jandirtubeamp Thanks for the kind words!! Cool man, send me an email and we can talk further :-)

  • Children of the Sea! Very nice. The very 1st song I learned how to play.

  • What guitar/pick up?

  • @BrasilGuitar I used my trusty GMW Superstrat (alder body, maple neck, ebony board) and the pickup is an Anderon H3.

  • Hmmmm, Tasty! What is this Mod you speak of?

And what stage of the amp is it at...Pre amp, power amp, trannie, valves....

    all of the above? Expensive?

    Cheers mate.

  • @sikaudio The whole amp gets modded, preamp and poweramp. This amp is loaded with EL34's. Email me and i'll send you an email listing the features/options/pricing. Cheers!!

  • Nice Dan! Very nice...!

  • @DougErapps Thanks Doug!! Let me know next time you're in the UK, i'll bring one along for you to try out!

  • Hi, That is one fine sounding amp. Really like the Jose mod. Looking forward to seeing more of your mods !

  • @smokiejohn Thanks!! I'll be posting more clips of my amp mods soon. Just upgrading to a new recording setup so i can mic up and put out higher quality clips!

  • real nice!!!!! we re lost children of the seeeeeeaaaa!!!!!!!

    I have a 2203 which I push with a sd-1....really nice sound

  • Man are you sure this is a jcm ?

Looks more like a Jmp 2204 with master volume

  • Yes it's a JCM800. A JMP has a totally different headshell

  • @ziko198

JMP wired the same and sounds the same as the JCM, but the gold panel doesnt go all the way across..

  • Beautiful! Straight into the amp?

  • Cheers!! Yes that was just guitar plugged straight into the amp, with the gains set somewhere around 2 o clock.

  • Fortins RULE!

  • Children of the Seaa! Great sound, great playing!

  • Thanks for the kind words!!

  • was it a 1959 model? with 4 inputs ? killer sound dude ... THE best marshall tone ever

  • Cheers man!!

No this was a 2204 model, 2 input. After the mods, it just had 1 input and i drilled the extra holes in the front panel to accommodate the extra gain pot and switches.

I have another 100w JMP which i did the same mod to, i'll upload a videoclip of it soon. Came out sounding killer, really punchy in the mids due to the 100w output section :-)

  • Dio ala Sabbath..sounds great.

  • awesome tone man i have the jvm 210h and i think i remember reading that its gain channel was based off the jcm 800, gotta love marshall :)

  • I bought this amp from dan. this clip or words simply cannot do it justice, its an incredibly good sounding amp,it does the eighties hot rod marshall sound brilliantly as well as modern high gain tones, its fantastic, hope to see you soon dan ,cheers Ian

  • Thanks for the kind words Ian! I'm so glad you are really enjoying the amp :-) If you need anything, let me know.

We'll definitely catch up soon, sometime after the new year!

    Cheers,

    Dan

  • sorry to intrude, but how much did it go for? and what is the average price etc.. thanks... amazing sound..

  • I have a JCM 800 I got used a while ago, I am thinking of trading it in for a Mesa just for some extra-gain, but the tone of the Marshall is just better I think.

Can you do a high-gain mod? I live in Orange County, will drive it up there.

  • mattstank,

If you are in the USA, get in touch with Mike Fortin of Fortin Amplification. He does the exact same mod and it would probably work out cheaper for you to send it to him, as i live in the UK. He is in Canada. Let me know if you need his contact details.

    Cheers,

    Dan

  • Ok, I will e-mail Fortin Amps. Thanks man.

  • @mattstank try Dave Friedman/Rack Systems in north hollywood (LA county, I guess)

he also does pretty good high gain Marshall mods and his shop is closer to you

  • @mattstank Get MIke Fortin to mod it and you'll never need to think about Mesa ever again. I've owned a ton of Boogie amps in the past, they're all gone.

  • I agree with getting Mike Fortin to do the mods. Mike has a great ear and does clean work.

  • Sound too fn good.

  • Sounds like a dream. Great job!

  • Thanks Kiriff!! :-)

  • hot damn that sounds good! Do the the two gain work with each other or just two seperate settings of gain?

  • Thanks man!!

Yes the two Gain pots work together, and they both have their own 3 position Bright switches. Allows you to dial in darker or brighter gain from either of the two Gains, it works very well!

  • @harold282 hi harold, I tried this amp in person and its absolutely amazing ,its better in person than in this clip ,the tone and feel of the amp is awesome !

  • Cheers Ian! It'll be with ya soon :-)

  • Whens the 100 watt video coming

  • Coming soon! Hoping to get a video uploaded within the next week

  • great clip man!

very nice mod... are you friend of Darren Cooper?!

  • Thanks Traxid!!

Yeah Darren is a very good friend of mine!

  • darren is great guy... we just made a trade... i gave him my soldano slo 100 for his elmwod modena 60... great guy to deal with...

  • Ohh you're the guy who did the trade with him, very cool!

That Elmwood M60 is an awesome amp, they sound killer!

  • yes i'm guilty as charged :D

i know it is great but it hasn't come yet to me... :D

  • Well it'll definitely be worth the wait, its great amp!!

  • Sounds very Jake E. Lee-ish, which, in my opinion, is a great thing!!! :D Rock on!!!

  • Thanks man!!

I'll have to do a clip playing some Jake E Lee riffs next time!

  • Again, the clip sounds great.

  • Cheers Dave!

Just finishing up a 100watt version this week, so sometime during the next few weeks i should be posting up clips of it!

Same mod as this amp (Cali Mod), but the extra headroom of the 100watts will make it sound different to the 50watt!

    Cheers,

    Dan

  • Nice. Are you adding a loop as well?

  • I will be adding a Loop to the 100watt, but not straight away.

I'm going add a Tube buffered Parallel FX Loop to the 50watt in this video first, then add it to the 100watt JMP afterwards.

I don't personally use a Loop all that much myself, but it will be good to have one in each amp just incase its needed.. especially when using the amp for gigs!

  • only modded marshalls sound great,

originals do suck big time !!!

i found out that brand has the most space inside the chassis to work on,

so that is a reason for modders to chose'em.....

  • Not true..even on many accounts Van Halen ran is 12,000 bone stock. The new Marshalls and the reissues are pretty bad though

  • LOOK OUT!

  • Man this sounds amazing.

  • Still sounds great!!

  • Cheers Dave! You ROCK!

  • i have a jcm 900 slx 100 watter that i am interested in modding what would you reccomend and who would you reccomend to do it? THANKS IN ADVANCE

  • Hey,

In all honesty the JCM900's wouldn't be my first choice of amp for mods!

If you're going for high-gain modded Marshall tones, a JCM800 or JMP would be a much better platform to start off with! They're pretty basic to start off with, which leaves you lots of space inside the chassis for further modification.

    Hope this helps!

    Dan

  • Yes, very true! The JMP/JCM 800 chasise are the only way to mod, the SL-X is BAD, it is what it is with that head, leave that one alone without mods. The JCM800/JMP turn into BEASTS after great mod work.

  • That amp sounds incredible, bro!

    Great rockNroll riffing as well.

  • Thanks man!!! I appreciate the kind words :-)

  • Hi Dan, like what you did....I got a handwired clone 2203 with fender trannies, love to get it sounding like this....Let me know you fee...Thanks Bill

  • hi , really really nice tone

    just one question :

does your mod has the jose master with diode ?

    (if it is not indiscreet)

  • Hey mate,

Well i like both the 50watters and the 100watters too. It really depends what kind of sound you want to go for. There is a difference, in the amount of headroom and also a 2203 will cut through more in the mix. But a 2204 will still sound killer after a mod.

The 50watter i modded in this video, is plenty tight enough for fast riffing but a 100watt is slightly tighter overall.

If Mike suggested a 2203 for the mod and sound you are aiming for, then i would go that route:-)

    Cheers!

    Dan

  • Hey dude, I'm talking to Mike Fortin about getting a jcm for him to mod, he recommended getting the 100w 2203 for the headroom, but I thought your 50w sounds pretty nice, and I might be able to get a 2204 for myself. Do you think there'd be a big difference?

And is it gonna be tighter after the mod? If I remember correctly the JCM800 is not that tight stock.

    Thanks!

  • WOW! That is SO close to the lynch, demartini, EVH 80s tone!

  • Cheers Stuart!

It can do the Lynch/Demartini tone spot on, it sounds much closer in person!

The voicing switches allow you to go from those types of Lynch tones all the way to the fatter tones like Aldrich and Sykes.

  • Thanks Helge! Glad you like it :-)

  • WOW! Crispy sound, man ;-) Congratulations!

    Cheers! Helge (Norway)

  • This is the sound I want. Can you tell me what speakers you're using?

  • Sure, im using a 1978 Marshall 4x12 thats loaded with Celestion G12H-30 speakers :-)

    Cheers!

    Dan

  • Thanks guys!!

Yes i offer this mod, plus other mods too. If interested, send me a youtube message with your email address and i will get in touch with you. For some reason YouTube wont allow me to post my email address in any comments.

    Cheers!

    Dan

  • AWESOME!!

  • Sounds great Dan!!

  • is this mod going to available to the public?

  • smokin

  • Thanks man!!
