  • thumbs up if you think this is the best film ever

  • Actually, this is a great movie, I've seen it several times. However, there are significant differences between the movie version and what happened in real life. What actually happened was amazing as well. "76 men crawled through the tunnel to initial freedom. Finally, at 4:55 a.m. on March 25, the 77th man was seen emerging from the tunnel by one of the guards."--Wikipedia There is much info about the true story on Wikipeida of the Great Escape from Stalag Luft III if anyone is interested.

  • This movie is awesome! Still watching it.

The game is awesome as well!

  • One Of The Best Movies Ever Made Im 16 And I Still Love Watching it

    Everything Just Fits Great Together

I Also Remember Playing The Great Escape Gmae on Ps2 !!

  • They dont make movies like this anymore.

  • prisonbreak is better ;p

  • thumbs up if you want hollywood to make a remake of this.....

  • @Rohclem1479 Sorry, I disagree.some things are perfect, just the way they were created.

  • @Licendruffian well, you have a point...

  • Thumbs up if you're still watching this in 2025

  • Steve McQueen did all of his own riding in this movie except the barb wire jump. anyone claiming otherwise is lying. Best war movie ever made!

  • @iangcunningham that's right. someone nick named daredevil did it.

  • Seen this so many times, and never gets old.

  • @clivedxb He did himself, then drove over the hill in the backgrownd, chainged outfits and played the Jerry. It was him. Bud Ekins and a guy my Dad knew called Tim Gibbs that did most of the stunts. Some say Ekins did the fence jump, others (like my old man) say Gibbs did, I don't really care.

  • How's it the plucky Brits always get it in the face, Mr Croker?

I would be very much obliged if you could refrain from breaking into my toilet.

Sadly though, those who got shot weren't fiction. But Mr McQueen was. Never existed, the silly bugger.

  • ohh natalie tran i love you...i think

  • ive never seen the movie, ive only played the game.....

  • omg i love so much this movie ;)

  • Great movie!

  • I was about 10 when I was first intoduced to this movie and i absolutely love it!!!

  • One of the best war movies ever made... love that theme tune....I watch it over and over....never sick of it.....

  • Cooler!

  • trailer looks like a summary of the movie lol

  • Love this movie--still great viewing after almost 50 years. The "break-out" took place on D-Day as a means of diverting as many German soliders as possible looking for the escapees rather than join forces at Normandy. I met a man many years ago who told me his father was in that POW camp and was one of the men who got stuck in the tunnel.

  • I am just about to watch this film! yay!

  • I still love this film. The classic

  • My Dad knew one of the guys who did the Motorcycle stunts!

  • @TheGroundedAviator Bud Ekins doubled for McQueen for the fence jump.... Bud passed away not so long back

  • @pyrofella Well he did some of them, it's confusing as some say he did others not. I don't really care.

  • @TheGroundedAviator Steve McQueen didn't play himself of course but he is one of the German bikers in that scene.

  • @TheGroundedAviator That is nothing! My brother knew someone whos sisters friends dad watched this movie sometime ago!!!

  • @internetmacker My dad was 14 at the time, he'd have also seen it at the cinema.

  • @TheGroundedAviator my dad knew even the claustrofobic guy

  • @FlyiNGPeNGuiuiu The Actor Bronson? The real guy Floody wasn't as far as I know.

  • @TheGroundedAviator yeah Charles Bronson. I looked up on the imdb and they have all died :(, that was a one fine group of REAL actors.

  • @FlyiNGPeNGuiuiu He was a great one! These days most can't really act (ok there are a number who can and are great) and it's just the six packs and perfect teeth that gave them the job, or they were ex pro wrstlers!

  • @TheGroundedAviator yep, + there is no more "clever" made movies, only about 20% of todays movies are good and worth of watching.

  • @FlyiNGPeNGuiuiu Yeah, but I might like too point out NO Americain took part in the escape as they had all been put in their own part by the time it was ready, no motorcycle jump took place (though a New Zealander and his comrad did use one too get back too base through enemy lines there was no acton) and a number of the real guys don't like this film as it isn't accurate too them. Fun film though, the the music is EPIC!!!

  • Hilts : so Mac how many views does this movie has?

    Mac: 250 .000

    Hilts TWOHUNDREDANDFFFIFTY.... thousand?

  • thumbs up if ure still watching this in 2011

  • The trailer kind of sucks, but this movie is AMAZING.

  • Awesome movie, in real life there wasn't a single American but a great movie non the less!

  • My gramps was Steve McQueen's gardener! :D

  • Steve McQueen did his own riding, plus did some of the German riders too! At one point he is actually chasing himself! :)

    STAY AWESOME! :)

  • some great escape... it got over 50 of the allied soldiers killed and only 3 survived, now if they had waited just another year or so they'd have been released once the allied army arrived.

  • thats a real movie ... !!!

  • Comment removed

  • An amazing movie. Maybe a sequence on the modern cinema will be nice.

  • Kick ass film. Wish it had less American Bullshit in it but what can you do.

American's had very little to do with the actual escape seeing as most were transfered to another camp before the escape.

Canadians had allot to do with the escape yet they never even get mentioned.

  • omg they found Tom!

  • into the blue his big right ball is not a poof but could be germanisedin malton keynes hohoho

  • my number one favorite movie.. saw it first in math class in the fifth grade.... loved it ever since...

  • A great movie ( one of my fav) with such talented actors .

  • @ambrelynn this is a shit film

  • I love this movie

  • the guy at 0:33 who says "Meanwhile, we dig." is Richard Attenborough. He played John Hammond in Jurassic park. he was a lot younger. :)

  • The real "Great Escape" was done in the winter. And no aircraft was stolen.

But, it is a truly great movie, and they actually destroyed a real Bücker Bestmann. It was not Steve McQueen that performed the bike jump. It was Bud Elkins.

  • Best movie ever. The more I watch it the more sure I am about it... Masterpiece.

  • American film adopted by us british... christams wouln't be the same without it!

  • i just adore,steve mcqueen,he was on my wall popping over that fence,and i did have omg,clint eastwood,in fullponcho,toking a cigarello,wow.i was 15. yoo bad

  • I really like this movie. Because it tells a story about the most daring esacpe from a POW camp in history.

  • We must have more vood!

  • A really great movie. It was made in Germany, exact where I was born. My grandmother told me about the film-team here in Füssen/Bavaria. Its very cool to see Steve McQueen cruising through the fields, where I played as a child. Greetings from Germany. :)

  • " Give up your hopeless attempts to Escape ! "

  • this is such an incredible movie

  • @icenroses

it's 1200 RPM which amounts to 20 rounds per second

  • This is my favourite movie of all time

    love it

  • I love this movie! I've read the book and seen the movie probably 50 times each. Amazing stuff! I've always been a war film fanatic and this is a perfect one. I always cry at the massacre part, and smile when Steve McQueen returns to the cooler and bounces that baseball.

  • @extractdigit DO THEY HAVE A BOOK OF THIS MOVIE COOL MAN TELL ME

  • @extractdigit Did you know that the motorcycle that Steve McQueen used in The Great Escape is the same one as Fonzie (Henry Winkler) rode on the Happy Days tv show? Truth be known, there were no American POW's involved in the Great Escape. Yes it's a great movie but it's also a typical example of how Hollywood tries to rewrite history. If you like war stories, you should look into the escapes from Colditz Castle during WWII. They tried to build a glider and fly out of there! It's amazing stuff!

  • @extractdigit Thanks for the spoiler, fucking dick.

  • @jpsplat If you were cool you would have already known the plot. Grow up,

  • @extractdigit so because I haven't got around to an almost unknown war movie (if you look outside you might realize that almost nobody has heard of this movie) I am therefore not cool?

  • @jpsplat Ask people in their fifties about this movie. Not everyone grew up with cable tv and X-box.

  • @extractdigit None of my teachers have heard of it, none of ny neighbors have heard of it, none of my family has heard of it, I had saw it on a best movies list, check out this video to see what it's like, you fucking spoil it, end of story.

Besides, I don't have an xbox, cable TV, and right now I'm at a friends house.

This is the last comment I am posting on this video.

  • @jpsplat im really surprised at that, all my friends and i love it and im 13

  • @extractdigit

it is a great movie but one thing they messed up on was the firing rate for the MG42s.

  • @extractdigit

Sorry, it is fantasy, like the american movie 'bierfest'!!!

  • @Kierkegaard1836 Fantasy?? This is based on a true WW2 story, even the tunnels' name are the same!! They only changed some of the names of the characters, but it's true that only 3 POW had success, and it's also true that 50 have been shot...
