Instead of using wood try 3-4 stacks of 8 pennies. its much better than the wood ive tried them both and even different types of hard woods. pennies provide more sustain and a punchier response .
@FletcherHabit # number of pennies varies . also remember to screw in the spring fork piece that holds the springs all the way in so its flush with thecutaway. this will maximize sustain further.
when doing this on a floyd rose trem, do you need to wedge the front cavity as well? i mean, does the floyd still float pitch-up when you press it a little harder with the right palm, like if you are palm muting very aggressively?
@mrbuddha2026 yeah, i know... it'll be blocked from down-pitch floating, but i just don't see how it would stay fixed on the other side with the loosened springs... i'm gonna try hardtailing my rg370 tomorrow and i'll see... well, it's not a problem to jam another piece of tree in there if necessary... i'll let you know. thanks for the replies ;)
@mrbuddha2026 i've been researching on the net about this... seen the tremol-no... it's an awesome thingy... but, taking ebay, shipping, paypal etc in consideration, a piece of wood comes way cheaper :D
@EivindS94 no whoever said that is an idiot or had a really cheap guitar , even though that kind of stuff happens.... my advice , 10 pennies, it requires a bit more effort but its a poor mans brass big block for floyd roses.
@EivindS94 i stack 10 pennies on top of eachother and tape them with clear tape to fill in the gap for the floyd rose to block it , its a bit of extra effort but it gives you a more fuller tone.
@JYZProductions Ive got 36 pennies in my blocked strat now and its great far better than the wood block. Do you think the tone could still improve very much if I replaced the trem. block with a high quality steel/brass one?
@FletcherHabit shit you broke my record , ok so with the block I'd say brass you'll enhance tone and volume as did the pennies , steel I heard its subtle except for harmonics if you mean the guitarfetish "dot" com ones. So the brass big blocks my vote I was talking to Zoltan of the band five finger death punch about the pennies idea think he tried it on his guitars as he uses a bigblock already
what I did for a few months was shove pennies between the springs to reduce rattling,
Gonna block off my ZR when I get the chance. I like having the added bonus of increased tuning stability of fine tuners with a fixed bridge. Question though, will I have to redo my intonation and such? It's kind of a pain in the ass. I'll do it anyway but I'm just curious.
this is crap there are many ways of doing this that are more simple ! .... and this being a 2 point tremolo you don't need to block it...if you put your strings right.
@Jaffa13666 You'll end up with no sustain doing it to a Floyd Rose. Probably best off leaving it as it is. You never know, if you have a second hardtail guitar you might want to make or play a song using your whammy bar doing dive bombs or whatever. :)
@st0rmr1der7 you should. this dude's obsession is with guitars. he owns a guitar company. if anyone knows how to set up a guitar itd be the owner of a guitar company who is also a full time musician and guitar teacher... in fact id trust him more with my guitar than my local luthier
You can do the double stop thing with a full floating floyd, but requires some skill. When you bend the string, the floating bridge will go down. You do the double bend and push the bridge to it's straight position the same amount you bend the string.
hahah what a great instructional video, 4:06 cracked me up. Quite helpful too. Did you just guess the thickness of the wedge or 'test and adjust' until the angle of the bridge was level?
making a fixed bridge on a strat in this fashion will kill some sound. it's better putting a wedge on the neck side, not the bridge side, or better yet machine a whole new tremolo block that is thicker than original and fills the cavity completely. the trouble with a modern two-point fender tremolo is that the sound dulls out of bridge is flush, because of the saddle geometry. you can also try and fit two grub screws and they'll serve as adjustable wedges, but that a bit trickier to do
@seasonedtoker Agreed my stock 2piece trem was zingy but never stayed in tune I put a wilkinson trem in it lost the zing but stayed in tune. So I've blocked it off out of frustration with a stack of 2p coins (6 glued together) wedged behind the bottom strings so I have zinginess it stays in tune but no wobble alas. Can't have it all I suppose.
To be totally honest it still sucks to have a floyd rose or anything like that because no matter what you do when you bend the strings they can slip outta the hold at the bridge and they will fall out. Then you will have to put it back in and retune and it will happen yet again. It sucks.
This is probably my favourite video on youtube and it's the one I tell guitarists to check out if they haven't heard of Chappers. Plus, it's useful to those who are sick of their tremolos. Thanks Chappers!

@robbyo1201 what i normally do is i put something in the routed out area ( the area where the bar is cut out so you can do pull ups) like an eraser so that when i change strings the bar doesnt move. after i put in each string i move the eraser. all you need is a screwdriver so you can adjust the screws that hold the springs tension. hope this helps you.
@robbyo1201 There's a slight chance you may have to readjust the truss rod, but I doubt that'll be the case. Quick question: I recently bought a jackson rr5fr for a steal, normally i hate fr's but it was too good to pass up an now i want to block the trem. Its an original fr floating system. If i do block it can I play in different tunings like a hardtail? Cuz I play in drop c# or eb most of the time but use others 2. Thanks for the help!
ive heard alot that guitars with any trems can be trouble. im going to be getting a jackson king v with a floyd so im definantly going to do this. thanks for the vid Chappers!
@trash266001 i blocked of my schecter floyd rose(check my channel and you'll see it) and found that i hadn't made the wood thick enough and the trem could still move a tiny bit when i tune down to drop c and a#. that may be it. if not that maybe the piece of wood isn't centered on the trem and one sie of your trem will move
@hsarhTsseldniM I've done this to a number of my guitars actually. It is a very easy thing to do, just try to be as precise with the measurements as possible. I had very little experience with guitar upgrades. Getting it done professionally is silly since it is such an easy thing to do. Just follow the instructions in this video and you'll be fine. The great thing about this is that there is very little risks of fucking it up if any at all.
Not needed for me. I have a stobe tuner and setup is quick and easy. I gotta say, I am not a pro. But I did a lot of research. I have a floyd rose tremolo on my guitar. I can literally do it in about 10 minutes after taking the strings off completely. And have a level tremolo plate when I'm done. The trick.. A STROBE TUNER. I take my strobe tuner off of the pedal board and plug it in as I'm stringing the guitar.
My Ibanez RGD320 has a trem and i cant tune it tu standard or drop D :( only lower tunning like drop B and drop C what do i do to make it tune to drop D and standard :(?
Hey man i need help. I have a floyd rose bridge. I got fed up with it and decided to hard tail it. Now the strings feel like they dont have enough tension in them. How do i fix that ?
@GabrielTheGuitarist any one who says u cant is a retard all u have to do is adjust the springs in the back and make shure your intonation is right i have an esp in drop b right now and it works fine
@GabrielTheGuitarist question tho i have EMGs in my esp when i do what i call dime bag squeels haha, it cuts out when i get to high is it my pick ups or what else could it be
@GabrielTheGuitarist yea the drops with the dive bar i tried changing the battery so i know its not that i know the intonation is right im pretty sure the bridge is set right ill check the pick up hight maybe thats it
Why does this video keep skipping frames? It's really annoying.

NoobletXiii 2 months ago
Hey i just want to check that:
once you loosen the springs (in the back of the guitar) and have placed the wooden block in the back, that:
You don't tighten the springs back up (as they were before, before the block was placed) so in effect just love them 'loose'.
Does restring the guitar cause the strings tension to pull the tremolo block? into the newly placed wooden block?
also, how 'loose' should the springs be in the back??
thanks :)

MAKE SURE YOU PICK UP THE COILED CLIPPINGS. its EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to remove a coiled piece of wire from your insides!!!

u said u cant drop tune a floyd? that bullshit. i just dropped my ibanez and esp with no problem...maybe if someone learns how to set up a floyd..
GabrielTheGuitarist 7 months ago
@GabrielTheGuitarist any one who says u cant is a retard all u have to do is adjust the springs in the back and make shure your intonation is right i have an esp in drop b right now and it works fine
RIPdimeRIP101 7 months ago
@RIPdimeRIP101 exactly im a guitar tech.
..this guy in the video said u cant do it....
i have an 3 guitars with a floyd:
Ibanez RG350DX - Drop C
ESP LTD M-100FM - Drop B
Jackson V JS32 - D standard.
each in a different tuning...i find them very easy to set it up in drop tunings.
GabrielTheGuitarist 7 months ago
@GabrielTheGuitarist yea im not a tech but i know a little bit i like to know how to work on what im playing
RIPdimeRIP101 7 months ago
@RIPdimeRIP101 agreed.

@GabrielTheGuitarist question tho i have EMGs in my esp when i do what i call dime bag squeels haha, it cuts out when i get to high is it my pick ups or what else could it be
RIPdimeRIP101 7 months ago
@RIPdimeRIP101 im guessing ur talking about pinch harmonics and harmonic squeal/drops. there could be a number of causes...
1. if ur EMGs are active, the battery can be weak.
2. ur pickups are too close, or to far away from the strings it wont get correct tone.
3. if u pickups have poles, u may have to adjust them separate for each string.
4. ur guitar's intonation may be off.
5. make sure ur bridge is set correct, theres a limit each string can reach pushing or pulling back on the dive bar.
GabrielTheGuitarist 7 months ago
@GabrielTheGuitarist yea the drops with the dive bar i tried changing the battery so i know its not that i know the intonation is right im pretty sure the bridge is set right ill check the pick up hight maybe thats it
