Translation from Spanish: As a promise, are you, are you like a summer morning. Like a smile, are you, are you; So, so, are you. All my hope is you, is you like fresh rain in my hands. As a strong breeze, you are, you are; So, so, are you. You are like my water source (Something like you) You are the fire in my home, You are like the fire of my bonfire, You are the wheat of my bread, Like my poem, are you, are you. Like a guitar in the night, My whole horizon you are, you are...
@furpurr the {original version} words are prettier in spanish, aren't they? but i do like THIS english version, & johnny does a beautiful job with it!! nana mouskouri's is beautiful as well, but i cannot find it online in good form. {all are scratchy or skip or something.}
Amazing. This is the only video I have seen of Juan Carlos Calderon, who wrote Eres Tu. Another Mocedades song written by JCC that is wonderful, is Dime Senor.
what a great video. i just like the fact that it is so unproduced that johnny mathis is just reading the sheet music. Like somebody just happened to hit record on the camera and it got saved. Where did this ever come from?
I just mainly like original versions of songs, but this song, originally done by Nana Mouskouri of the group 'Mocedades' was beautifully done by Johny Mathis.
Mocedades did the original in the Eurovision song contest in 1973. And Nana Mouskouri covered it in 1976. And Miss Mouscouri are Greek and Mocedades are a Spanish family-group and they aren´t in any way related.
I would like to mention, the pianist is the composer, Juan Carlos Calderon. I would have mentioned that, in my post below, but I had not noticed his name was not shown in the description.
Also, spanish and english are mixed this way daily in the lives of several americans. perhaps several folks in mexico as well. (Yes, I realize that Uranga is Spanish, not Mexican. That is irrelevant.)
andy williams has also version of "eres tu",,,,wish i could find it here,,,i heard it since i was 7,,,this song really reminds me of my younger years,,,a great song,,,
Original English version from 1974 by Wheeler St,James available on You Tube.

I´m afraid you got it slightly wrong.
Mocedades did the original in the Eurovision song contest in 1973. And Nana Mouskouri covered it in 1976. And Miss Mouscouri are Greek and Mocedades are a Spanish family-group and they aren´t in any way related.

Amaya Uranga is Basque, not Spanish. The song may be partially derivative of Brez Besed, but Brez besed isn't the "original".

the original is called "Brez besed" , not Eres Tu.

Thank you for this wonderful video. It shows why any composer would be thrilled to have Johnny Mathis singing their composition!

ajay999999 3 years ago

That's right, actually, the booklet he's holding, the people on that picture are the original Mocedades
