The SRT-4 is listed at 230 hp and 260 trq. (Dodge quoted whp. Props to them for that). The SRT-4 actually puts out 274 bhp. 14 more than the SS Turbo and only 8 more trq. The SS output is 260bhp and 260trq. 230-234 whp and 255-258 trq. (Dyno vids everywhere). The SS gets power down more efficiently as proven above. The SS Turbo also beat the 2011 Lotus Exige around the ring. The SRT-4 for the time it was released was without a doubt the best bang for your buck performance. Not anymore.
Lets settle it. I owned both and i've raced both cars in both. Stock for stock the SRT-4 and SS Turbo are identical in a drag race. It can go either way. Above 130 km/h the SS Turbo will steadily pull away from the SRT-4. On a circuit course the SRT-4 is far outclassed and in terms of ride comfort and road holding the SS wins hands down as well. It has a better sound system stock and has better MPG. Also has more front seat leg room and way better crash safety. SRT-4 is awesome but be realistic.
@ussvoyager5 u talk about the STi and Evo, why? They're not in the same league as the neon and cobalt so they don't count. And u say your vw can beat it with all those mods. Of course with all those mods it could but go stock for stock. Why'd u even include a modded car against a stock car? Makes no sense.
Dude I'm sorry but the cobalt ss is not faster than an srt4 neon. The torque curve is just broader in the neon. Plus, there is much more aftermarket support for the neon than the cobalt. Straight from MOPAR is the stage 3 package which gets it up to 380hp and that's not even considering other aftermarket tuning possibilities. I like both cars but the neon is faster. And u talk about the STi and Evo, why? They're not in the same league as the neon and cobalt so they don't count. And
Learn a few things dude. You need 100 Octane Gas to get the full benefits of the Stage 3 mod (I had an SRT-4 Neon). The SS Turbo can and has (lots of proof) pushed 350 whp and 360+ trq on tune alone. There are aftermarket kits from places like Synapse that push the SS Turbo to just shy of 400hp (390+). Racing gas isn't required. In a drag race both cars are near identical stock so it can go either way and on a circuit course the SS would whomp the SRT-4. Knowledge is power.
Does anyone know whether these cars had a feature whereby the engine will keep running after you turn off the ignition to allow the engine to cool? Or is that fault injectors?

@Jmerwine You are right, it doesn't have the "sporty" interior like a cobalt or other sport compacts like the WRX/Sti but if you are truly looking for power for an affordable price this is YOUR car. This is faster than a Cobalt SS S/C ( not TC) , the Subaru WRX, and Mazda Speed 3. They are affordable and the aftermarket support is IMO the greatest american tuner and is 2nd to me with Mitsubishi's 90's DSM's.
@fordf22raptor its common for water to come out of the muffler. Look it up if you dont know the combustion process that happens through the exhaust system.
@arabdriftking You obivously know nothing about SRT4s, i know people that are pushing 120,000+ miles and are running a stage 3 setup, one evens still has the stock clutch, these motors can handle huge amounts of power, with simple mods, now of course it eventually will blow up if you make it run 20psi on stock internals, dont go shitting on the SRT4 cause these cars can make a lot of more expensive cars bite the dust in a race with just a few mods.

@Jmerwine You are right, it doesn't have the "sporty" interior like a cobalt or other sport compacts like the WRX/Sti but if you are truly looking for power for an affordable price this is YOUR car. This is faster than a Cobalt SS S/C ( not TC) , the Subaru WRX, and Mazda Speed 3. They are affordable and the aftermarket support is IMO the greatest american tuner and is 2nd to me with Mitsubishi's 90's DSM's.

@arabdriftking You obivously know nothing about SRT4s, i know people that are pushing 120,000+ miles and are running a stage 3 setup, one evens still has the stock clutch, these motors can handle huge amounts of power, with simple mods, now of course it eventually will blow up if you make it run 20psi on stock internals, dont go shitting on the SRT4 cause these cars can make a lot of more expensive cars bite the dust in a race with just a few mods.

@ekw you obviously don't know much about cars. Last time I checked chicks don't drive stock turbo charged engines. These cars are amazing, they compete with high end sports cars like mustangs and camaros but for half the price. I would kill to have one of these cars. And no people don't drift in front wheel drive cars.

@jcdebbs there fun but there not that fast stock they make great sounds. They understear they dont handle as well as people say they do. When you get a big turbo..than they spin to much and you get beat by slower cars because of it. Been there done it all i have videos of my old 400whp srt4
