  • Excellent! Its good to hear such powerful covers of great music!

  • @scifisoren Thanks ! :-) Glad you liked it !

  • @ALEClovesGENIALMUSIC John Miles was the vocalist on this APP track. Why he doesn't sing it live I dunno. I love your version!

  • @friedredgrouper Thanks !

  • How did you learn the song on piano?

  • I like your version. Have you the chords (simple)?

  • as same as...app

  • @MrPandu1000 :-)

  • great... I love it...

  • @Crowdear Thank you very much and welcome !

  • @carlosmevop Muchas Gracias !!!

  • many thanks; I´ll try!

  • Great job for a great song, congrats!

  • @pca321 Thank you very much ;-) We're both great fan of APP. We did a lot of covers and we'll surely do more in the future. We have a dedicated channel about trio performances of APP and related songs ... check out the YT channel called eyerobotmusic .... Stay tuned ;-)

  • @ALEClovesGENIALMUSIC

    Hi Alec!

Could you be so kind to send me the sheet for piano or the link where I can get it? it´s the best transcription of an APP song for piano I ever heard! But I can´t find the sheets in the web! It´s nearly impossible to get such great sheets in germany!

  • @UHU242 You have to ask urbania70 if he can send you this ;-) He's very busy, he could need some time to answer you, but you can try. Ciao !

  • @ALEClovesGENIALMUSIC Hi Alec! I just tried, but Gorgio only accept mailings from listed friends. can you help me? (I hope you do :-))))

    Ciao Udo

  • @UHU242 I will forward him your request. We'll see ;-) Ciao !

  • What a cover ! Superb !!!!!!

  • @pingumanbr Thanks a lot ! ;-) You're welcome !

  • nice. your voice is pretty similar to the vocal. love this song.

  • @luisdent Thank you very very much !

  • @ALEClovesGENIALMUSIC no problem. i've listened to it a few times ;)

  • @luisdent Hi Sean :)

  • @urbania70 :-)

  • yoy are very good...ma siccome penso siate italiano lo dico in italiano xD siete molto bravi sono veramente delle belle cover...fatene altre vi prego xD amo The Alan Parsons Project *_* da dove prendete gli spartiti???

  • @BiagioMarcoGenio Ciao Biagio !

  • you are hidden gems. absolutely incredible cover. btw I'm so pissed with the moron who hit the dislike button >:(

  • @Retrodon25 LOL ! Thank you very much for the "hidden gems" words ;-) ... and for the other thing I agree with ^_^

  • That was absolutely incredible piano and vocals Amazing

    BRAVO!!!

  • @RhapsodyRapture Thank you very much ;-) and welcome !

  • @RhapsodyRapture Many thanx

  • Yes, this was a very great pleasure to listen to, as you are both excellent artisits, and have done great justice to this work. It is a pity that you didn't have separate microphone. You talents warrant a real studio. And--correct me if I'm wrong, since my experience in studios is more the pre-digital--but, can't you have two mic's and not actually have it be a problem if each of them picks up some of both musicians? I suppose that would require a mixing board, so as to adjust each up and down.

  • @lejistar Thanks a lot !! We'd really like a real studio, actually ^_^ Anyway, year after year we're trying to increasing the quality of our recordings. On this video we were actually using the camcorder microphone. More recently (on uploads on urbania70 channel - check them out) we used at least one specific microphone. We hope to arrange an even better audio set in the future. Thanks again !!

  • @lejistar PS: yes, eventually using two microphones - IF we also use a mixer and IF we balance them both right and we arrange to use the right reverb on both - is technically possible as far as I know.

  • @lejistar You may wish to check on my channel the videos from a recent session in which we used a proper mic. We indeed tried to use two mics and a mixer, but, since the different miking distances, we got different reverberations from the two signals - not easy problem to solve. Maybe in the upcoming DVD series by Alan Parsons "art and science of sound and recording" I'll find some useful tips! :-)

  • Wow. Great performance.

  • @Burqua12 Thank you !!

  • @Burqua12 Thank you very much

  • Very nice, great performance an all accounts.

  • @diydummy Thank you very much ;-)

  • @diydummy Many thanx

Comunque molto bravi !

  • Nice performance! I wish I could play like you!

  • @mrrusof Thanks ! ^_^

  • @mrrusof thanx

  • Hi, great job. Where did you get the piano sheet music from ? Could you post them to me ?

  • well done...

  • @KenMattison Thanks ;-)

  • Awesome, guys...

  • Thanks Sherry ;-))

  • @shardwick55 Hey Sherry, nice to see you here!

  • :'-D

  • :-) Thanks for re-listening and re-appreciating it Dan ;-)))

  • @ALEClovesGENIALMUSIC

No, thanks to both you and Giorgio for:

    1) existing (that's fundamental, haha!)

    2) being great human beings

    3) being our friends (not really related with the following points, but... anyway!)

    4) having a passion for music beyond any possible explanation

    5) actually being more than able to make music

    6) finding and taking the time to press that little red button, with "Record" stamped near, on your respective cameras when you have the chance to meet!

    :-DDD

  • @danbergam Wow Dan thank you for your words.. Pressing "Rec" is fun.. and one of my drugs :-D

  • @urbania70

    ^_^

Pressing the magic, red "Rec" button... is one of the things I often forget more often!

    xD

  • You both awesome!

  • Thanks Lidia ! :-) Always happy to see young people who like the Project ! I've just given a quick look at your channel ... I envy you, I can't draw at all ^_^ You're welcome ! ALEC

  • @msshanh Thank you very much, I quote Alec's words

  • Wow !!!!

You guys are good ! I think Alan will be impressed

    Greetings from the Netherlands

  • :-) Thanks a lot ! Probably Alan will never see this, but it's ok ! You're welcome !!!

  • @Petrodirk Yes.. better he doesn't see.. audio recording here is quite amateurial :-) But enjoy on our two channels some better recorded covers. I know Ian B saw mine.

  • AWESOME ! Unbelievable ! That would be like ALAN PARSONS should sound if they were still together. Unfortunately, Eric died last month, I think. So a reunion is not possible. BUT THAT`S A GREAT SHOW TO COME - DO YOU GIVE CONCERTS ?

  • Wow, these are great compliments, THANK YOU ;-))) Well, me and Giorgio formerly would not be in one band, we live in different towns. We are very good friends and we love to make music together when we meet. As single persons and with different support musicians, yes, we're looking for venues but we started not long ago, so it's (still) a hard road to take, and yes, we love to cover APP with our bands. Please enjoy all the other APP & not videos of our 2 channels, mine and Giorgio's (urbania70)!

  • Thank you very much. I quote Alec, see our individual videos (including our tributes to Eric) which have higher quality x technical reasons. Also see Amontillado (link under the video), I think it turned out slightly better than this one.

You will be also interested in APP tribute bands videos, like Nevermore Project, which does some things (like Mammagamma) like the studio version: on my channel on top click Playlist, the grid button on top right and click "APP3a Covers: TRIBUTE BANDS".

  • What a MAGNIFICENT job transposing all of the instruments to the piano!. And great playing. SInging reached all the high points; I suspect that the voice sounded better in person than in this recording. In any case, a worthy tribute to the incomparable Eric Woolfson. Bravo! I can tell that you love the Maestro's work.

  • Thanks a lot ! Speaking for my part, yes, my voice was a bit better on that room than in the final recording (as Parsons fan we care about sound, but we don't have Alan's bank account LOL) and the same for the piano ... but what we had and what came FROM us in that session is (already) a great memory. Thanks again and welcome !

  • @alanparsonsfan: thanx again. I quote Alec. This has been recorded with the camera's mic (and you can see how distant it is from us, to get both in picture), not with professional mics as we usually do on our solo videos. Next time we'll use at least a professional mic but it requests tests of finding the best position in order that we both can be heard. The better would be feeding two professional mics into the mixer, and hoping that my mic doesn't capture the sound of Alec's and viceversa.

  • Excellent!!! Brilliant!!! Marvellous!!!

Jesus Christ what av wonderful cover of my favouritesong now and forever!!!

    THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • :-) Thank You !! It's been/always a pleasure. You're welcome ! Nice nickname !

  • @app4ever: Thanx.. nickname indeed!

  • Enjoyed this cover............ very much, beautiful singing Alec.

  • Thank you very much Jo ^_^

  • Incredible! Fantastic! Strange, modern and so autenthic! A good thing so see that just simple music - one piano plus one singer - still WORKS!! it gives me heebie-jeebies! thank you.

  • Happy to read that ^_^ Thanks and welcome !

  • @Cathy.. Thank you very much. The reason it works so well is that piano/voice was the way Eric Woolfson composed them.

  • Fantastic!!!!

  • Thank you ! :-)

  • You two should tour !!!xxx

  • THANKS A LOT ^_^

  • @ani.. Thanx Jan.. You may wish to check the Genialgroup videos (on Alec's channel) if you didn't already.. but there are also complete APP tribute bands which really tour.. Check my playlist "APP tribute bands".

  • @anibjornson Haha thanx Jan!

  • Why listen to this, when you can hear the original on the CD? I'll tell you why... because when fans cover the song, and when they do it as well as the two of you, It is like sharing with others, the love of the original performance. You get to hear a different take, another perspective or interpretation. That's what I like about listening to this.

This is so beautifully done. The piano playing is incredible, and the vocals are terrific. BRAVO!!!

  • Thanks godfella ! I couldn't agree more :-) It's real love for some beautiful songs. We just wanted to re-evok it as faithful as possible with our love of now, from 1978 to 2008-9 (ok, I was born somewhere in the middle, but let's not care :-D) and even later ! Thanks again for your very kind comment and long lives APP ;-)

  • you both are such a good team!! pianoplaying and voice 5***** SUNFLOWER :)

  • Thanks a lot Sunflower ;-)

  • Many thanx!

    Giorgio

  • Go on with your fine work!! excellent!!

  • You both did an outstanding professional job!!! Did you find piano music for this song, or did you pick up the piano music by ear?

  • Thanks very much and welcome !! Giorgio picked up the piano music by ear ;-) Don't forget to visit his channel - nickname on youtube is urbania70

  • OUTSTANDING! I APPLAUDE YOU BOTH! Gave me chills!

  • Thanks a lot ! ;-) Please, feel free to listen to the other APP cover on my channel and on urbania70's channel ! You're welcome ! Long live APP !

  • Thank you very much!

  • I thought you were both miming. The vocals and the video concept, yet simple, is amazingly good. Well done!!

  • ^_^' Thank you ! And thanks for subscribing !

  • Thanx, check my channel for more APP covers!

  • Wow I know Alan Parsons and you did an excellent job both on piano and vocals. This song brings back memories and makes me very sad. I think of of all tjhe people getting old and being alone. My dad and mom died alone without a mate.

  • Thanks for your kind comment !

  • Thank you very much!

  • What a strong and heartfelt performance! You used no special recording equipment but came up with rich, genuine, professional sound. Thanks from a fan of APP and of great music!

  • Thanks a lot !! And thanks for subscribing to my channel ! I suggest you to visit and subscribe to urbania70 channel also, where you will find The Cask Of Amontillado from the same 'session' and some great piano versions of APP tunes !

  • Thanx! Yes this is done with just a camcorder. Visit my channel for more professional APP covers.

  • Oh.. it's you! Fans visit this channel, he did a great Old And Wise piano cover!

  • Muchas gracias!

  • What a great song. Had no idea John Miles sang it. He's another one of my favorite singers. You sing this really well, and the pianist is fab too. Top marks Alec. jh. :)

  • Thanks a lot jh !! :-) John sang some great songs in the Alan Parsons Project. Others are Doctor Tarr And Professor Fether, Stereotomy, In The Real World, La Sagrada Familia, Money Talks.

  • Heh John Miles is great. If you liked this, check also the video to which this is posted as response: our cover of The Cask Of Amontillado, recorded in same session, and also sung by John Miles on the original version.

  • Awesome I'm amazed by the performance great! work, from Toronto Canada wow! what a piano player so! super! good! ♥♥♥♥♥

  • Thank you by the singer ;-)

  • Here's the piano player.. thanx so much! From Toronto, Canada? Great! Steve Martin, the fan which edited the international AP fanzine and the first official AP site, lives right there!

  • Amazing...do more APP songs. Tribute band!? Thank you.

  • Thanks for the comment !

  • Hi, I'm the pianist of this video, thanx for the compliment. If you'd like to know about APP tribute bands, look for the links on my channel page. Check in particular channel appcover

  • Awesome! Great piano performance, the solo sounds unbelievable. And the singers voice is exactly like John Miles'.

    Bravisimo !

  • Thanks a lot Georgi !! ^_^

  • Thanx Georgi, glad you liked the piano - I just try to reproduce the original as much as possible

  • Wow! I'm impressed, and here I thought this was just another cover of a pop tune that somebody wanted to destroy... you guys are excellent!

  • Thanks unclebob !! You're welcome ;-)

  • Thank you uncle bob, welcome

  • the piano intro and the "i am all alone" part are the climax, also when the drums start(but i'll cling to a...) awesome!! fantastic, Alan parsons and Eric woolfson have something i couldn't find in any other band, magic...

  • Yes the piano intro of "Shadow of a Lonely Man" is probably Eric's masterpiece.

  • Excellent !

  • Thanks !!

  • Thanks!

  • Brilliant! This song is beautiful, sublime, i have no words to describe it, you played it very well, APP is part of my life...

  • Thanks Fabricio !! APP is part of our life as well ;-)

  • A respectful tribute to AAP music!! It sounds lovely, every fan will congratule your effort, thanx a lot!!! Greeting from Lima, Peru

  • Thanks to you ;-) You're welcome !

  • Thank you very much.. From Peru.. Beautiful country

  • tagliati i capelli, non siamo nell '800

  • Chaetofobico?

  • Thanks to both of you, an interesting sidenote here; one of my best friends from the states actually wrote a complete choral arrangement to the song old and wise which he gave to me. Also he is a music teacher from the states and one of his students spent a year at a school in England where the student not only met Alan Parsons's son; but actually became friends with him and spent time hanging out at the Parson's estate. My friend and I saw APP live in the states back on the Live tour in 1995.

  • Very cool ^_^

  • Beaurtifuly arranged, performed and sung,(that is a very difficult song to sing). I feel sometimes very much like I'm a shadow of a lonely man typing on this computer, trusting no one, while at the same time trying to seek eternal truths. Again kudos to you two gentlemen, and especially the Alan Parsons Project for enlightening my world.

  • Thanx Sonrise for your constant support! Yes it's a difficult one to sing!

As for the concept of the shadow.. well it seems you're not so lonely.. as you can see from the comments on this video, there's lot of APP fans here. But yes.. I think that every APP fan, at least in some moment or period of his life, finds himself in that song. Actually when I and Alec met Eric he told us that he wrote the songs in such way that everyone can find something of himself in the lyrics..

  • Thanks Sonrise ! As Giorgio already said, it's not so uneasy to find yourself fitting into the song character in certain days. Multi-layered music is for people who have multi-layered feelings, I think.

  • I find the way Giorgio :)))Nobody did so nice covers...Two songs are diffucult to perform...Unplugged and natural...

  • I'm particularly glad of your compliment, as you were part of an APP tribute band. But don't say we're the best.. you need to hear the other APP tribute bands.. and you will :-)

  • We are not the best APP tribute bands of course but we're the first APP performers here in you tube:))I think so:))

  • That's for sure! ... Also because the currently active tribute bands are shy and didn't published anything on YouTube... but this is going to change, it's a promise!

  • Congratulations friends! One of your best works...

  • Thank you very much Fazil !

  • Thank you so much Fazil, so nice to have you again around on the tube!

  • Wow, I do not have words, but I have five stars for you

Incredible the result, as a professional.

How much time you have been late in obtaining it?

  • Thanks miglopez !

Well, it needed a time between some minutes and one hour or so for G. to make a useful transcription for the keyboard parts and at least a couple of vocal parts tests for me (made the previous day). This to obtain the performance in itself, but obviously it took years of practising it alone for both of ourselves, to 'discover' all the nuances of such a piece :-) It can't be learned in a day ... any Project track can, you know ^_^

  • Thanx Migue! Alec replied quite appropriately.

I learned it years ago by ear and probably in few time. But at rehearsal, with more experience I checked the CD and discovered various new chords, and nuances in bass and orchestra. I limited to an hour (with poor Alec waiting). Challenging for him too (unusually high Miles), for ex. he asked me to support his high note at 4:57. Unlike Amontillado, which was a take 1 with a 10min rehearsal, for Shadow we did 4 rehearsals/takes before this one...

  • Yet, I recently discovered dozen errors in this cover:

    Wrong bass notes: 1:03-09 & 3:09 (F, not C, in fact Alec's eye is not convinced :-)

Various chords where I neglected (or wrongly added!) 3,5,7,7+ or 9; my fav. is G/E at 0:22 where I should have removed the 3 (ie B) note (if you're not familiar with chord notation ask, I'll help you).

    The learned lesson is that:

    - as great pianist, Eric plays enough notes but also not too many!

    - other APP members contributed

    - how rich is APP music

  • Absolutely brilliant. So many Project covers on YouTube, and finally there are people who put their heart into, get the concept of the music, and can actually perform it. You guys do a wonderful job, and the pianist is OUTSTANDING. Keep up the good work!

You should take on "Ammonia Avenue" and "Since the Last Goodbye," also. :-)

  • Thank you very much Scrabblerouser ! You're very welcome ! Our admiration for the Project is shown well here, as you noticed ;-) You pointed out two of my favourite tracks, (both from AA album) so if we have the chance, they are among the possibile candidates I think, Ammonia Avenue more than Since The Last Goodbye. Thanks again !

  • Thanx Scrabble (hey did u know that the cover of "A. Powell and T.P.Orchestra play the best of TAPP" features Scrabble game?). The songs you quote are typical Eric ballads, suitable for piano.. Ammonia's chords are more complex than other things which Eric wrote. Check AA new edition, it features behind the scenes bonus tracks for both songs!

  • Excellent cover. A high quality studio version please!

  • Thanks OmeRits ! Please, take a listen also to the Cask Of Amontillado cover, that you can find as a video response to this video.

We (me the singer & the pianist) would be glad to make a more accurate 'studio' version of this cover ... Just a bit difficult at the moment but, never say never !

  • Thanx OmeRits.. do you hire for us an orchestra? Haha.. I quote Alec.. Thanx again!

  • Just perect, you realy make us feel it, its like listening the project themselfs when they recorded it, congratulations and thanks.

  • Thank you kupa, you're very kind !

  • Fantastic comment, thanx!

  • please more music !!

if i was a rich man ,i come to italie just to see that in real .

    thank you

    oliver

  • Thank you Oliver ! You are great too.

  • Wow, you're the 1st one saying us something like that. Indeed you're great too. Sooner or later I'll travel to France or you to Italy, when we do let's do a jam!

  • The more I see of you guys well words can't describe your talent. More please!!

    Michelle xxxx

  • Happy you found the video response to Cask! Well we life in different distant cities.. and although we meet.. tomorrow!.. we will do it in his city and not mine so not don't record this time. Check us our "solo" works! Jaws is my most popular. Not APP but 35000 visits!

  • Thank you Michelle ! You're very kind :-)

  • beautifully done;)
