Just as examples, most well-known singers in US such as Justine Timberlake, Britney Spears, Beyonce, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, and more also are heavily marketed, re-packaged, produced, trained, etc, by an army of publicists, producers, managers, executive producers, marketing experts, song writers, choreographers, vocal coaches, etc. Commercial Pop music EVERYWHERE seem heavily "manufactured."

The filmmakers were leading those kids on to make them seem more xenophobic and insular than they really are through clever editing, question choices, providing misleading context, MV choices, etc. For example, it beyond me why they would tell those kids K-Pop artist don't write they own songs when most Pop singers in US or anywhere in the world also don't write their own songs. I blame the filmmakers for doing some heavy-handed manipulation.

I love you! I totally agree! I just got so annoyed when I saw that video! I sort of flipped my lid when the guy behind the camera went, Oh these songs were made by companies. I can name at least 4 songs by Super Junior just from the top of my head that were written and composed by the members! and the pictures they showed them... just ugh, the SJ one was from 2005! and teh SNSD one was old as well...

THANK YOU I totally agree. I found it very insulting and didn't like the part about being an Asian Rebecca Black. Even if they found the video weird that's just a very mean thing to say. It frustrates me SO much when someone is compared to lady gaga too because before she even came out there were videos and artists that were 'out there' and could be viewed as 'weird'. To me just because someone isn't dressed normal or something doesn't mean they're weird. I like to call them unique and outgoing.

I didn't really understand the whole "I HATE MY GENERATION" comment. Shouldn't you be a little proud your "generation" is going out of their way to listen to music that's not in your native language, and primarily popular in other countries? well, snsd and super junior are large groups so most of them would have similar hair styles and hair color and with such a large group, different outfits can be too flashy. also, themes are pretty important in mv's too. ehhh, i'll wait a view more months for the hallyu wave to kick in and see how the kids like kpop then.
