since when playing technically destroys things when you know how to use your technique and put your soul into the music?!
beatles fanboys, always thinking that the only reason they didn't use techniques on their songs was because they didn't want to!
sry, they couldn't play like pg... yeah they were good composers, not genious as people tend to think, mostly george, the really great composer of the band! but as far as execution of the song, this is the real deal... learn not to be idiots
just because you see that shitty mab playing ultra technical speed shit with nonsense techniques you think: "onoes sum1 uzesss techniques so they no got soulz0rs"
he's well aware of what he's doing there, and he's not doing it just for the sake of technique, he's showing how much he enjoys playing it, with flawless technique, clean, and not a single not needed note on the solo!
can't tell if trolling or just extremely retarded. you actually believe eric clapton (who palyed the original solo) and george harrison couldn't play what that guy plays. Its good and hes a good guitarist, but he did go a little overboard and george harrison and eric clapton are some of the best guitarists ever. To say this guy is better, and call the beatles anything short of geniuses, shows a complete lack of understanding towards musical theory and composing.
whether he makes the song better or not is your opinion not a fact. I didn't like it because the song is while my guitar gently weeps, not while my guitar gently shreds. This sort of solo is much more suited to a more heavier rock/blues song, not a Harrison song. Clapton was better because his tone and timing suited the song better. Still a good solo (better then me), but Clapton did it better
@aussie4life96 Exactly. They're not there to replicate the original songs and play them exactly how they were recorded -- and I'm sure that's not how Harrison and Clapton would want it done. The fact is that they're there to entertain and put on a good show, which is exactly what they did. The audience loved the solo.
I'm 60 years old and have NEVER seen a more awesome guitarist as Paul Gilbert , Personally,I've been playing guitar since age 9 and I am convinced that if God granted me another 60 years on this earth I couldn't play like Paul. THANK YOU Paul for inspiring even old rockers like me. :-)
@popsiejo I can't believe Lady Gaga has as many views as Gilberto should. There's really something wrong with the world. But how can you argue with proper publicity, and shitty music?
I see there were 5 people who voted "Didn't like" or whatever... How in the world could you not like this song and the way these guys performed it unless your a musical retard... I have this DVD and the whole thing rules!! I'm a beatles fan and I like everybody on that stage.. Gilbert is an awesome guitar player and he rules this solo.. (Sorry Eric Clapton) LOL. the video doesn't do this performance justice. I was there and the crowd went absolutely NUTS during the last solo. I mean NUTS. You can't hear on the audio but the place was electric - people were standing up in their booth seats and cheering when this was over.
Holy sh*t that was good... Paul tore it up but still kept it respectful and tasteful for the tune...I thought Prince at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was epic until I saw this!!!
To be fair - it's all gonna be musos at that gig and they want to see virtuosity considering the line up! All of these guys can tone it down or crank it up easily and during a whole gig you'd see both sides.
@omfgandy i think portnoys just trying to build on the song and play more of a rythm than a beat for the song in a sense there both soloing but ya portnoy even though he's my favourite drummer is over doing it with some of teh fills
@antonio610 You're really fucked up. Indeed, I'm pretty fucking sure that Paul Gilbert would slap you if he could read that you wrote. You're insane. Be respectul, bitch.
@dermisdaniel Gilbert seems like a nice enough chap that he wouldn't slap anybody. Yeah, this solo was better than the original. I also think some music is better than music that preceded it, that some covers destroy the original songs, and that Eric Clapton released a fair amount of subpar corny music in his day (mostly 80's). Gonna call me a bitch, internet tough guy?
@antonio610 Loool. Certainly, Gilbert seems to be really nice and i don't think he would be hirting nobody. I'm really sorry, man. I'm not that kind of troll. It's just that when i read something unpleasant about Beatles, Clapton, Queen, etc. I get really cocky. I guess this a better solo in a lot of ways, but i die for the feeling and the blues over the shredding. That's it. I didn't ment to insult you. Creo que entiendes español también. Lo siento, pana. Mis más venezolanas disculpas.
@dermisdaniel You know, I absolutely LOVE Clapton's work with Cream. Disraeli Gears is probably amongst my top 10 favorite albums, and Wheels of Fire my top 20. The problem is nearly everything I've heard from him since then is devoid of energy, and IMO lifeless. He has a lot of fans out there, and some feel his style epitomizes "emotional" playing. I on the other hand couldn't care less about anything he's produced since Cream. I don't see him as deserving of guitar God status.
@wlmason73 I agree and don't forget his work with John Mayall, The Yardbirds... Can't believe when I hear him today it's the same guy.. You say "IMO lifeless" yeah, I agree
Only a fraction as famous as Paul McCartney, but Mr. Neal Morse is every bit as talented as any member of the fab four - his origional stuff is incredible.
That guitar isn't weeping. It's in floods of tears. PG is one of the last few great guitarists on earth who can make a guitar truly cry like it was meant to.
anywho, to anyone who thinks he ruined the solo by playing fast and stuff, i've seen covers where they just try to make it sound kool but in the end all they're really doing is playing something completely different that doesn't fit with the song at all. However, i think this guy played epicly without taking away that Beatles feeling to it. I think the man did a great job. Also, respect for Mike for playing in a Beatles tribute band. xD
You talk all the time on the Prince!? But nobody talks about the composer of this musical masterpiece, GEORGE HARRISON??
OK. If the Prince did a fantastic solo in this song, the guitarist also did this clip, but the key is this song, which is beautiful and its author, George Harrison ... Please!
Well, my dear friends, I think that George Harrison could hear this interpretation of his music, I would be happy. It is an absolutely orgasmic guitar solo!
BEAUTIFUL! WONDERFUL! Interpretation intense and perfect. George Harrison was the greatest composer of "The Beatles". This song is an apology to any guitarist. Soul and passion in the hands of the guitarist. Truly, the guitar cries as the world turns and we are moved and vibrate
with a song like that. Long live George Harrison and his masterpiece "While my guitar gently weeps. " Thanks, Paul Gilbert!
the solo is not a patch on prince....sorry...the feeling prince puts into the rock n roll performance is way better than this....there is more to playing the guitar than playing fast...great music comes from within and prince is genuine musical genius..this solo has nothing to do with the the song...the guitar is supposed to be weeping ? ...not sounding like its getting the shit kicked out of it ?
@blackboab2004 So his musical expression is incorrect since it's not your cup of tea, musically this is right down the lane, and he is putting feeling into this in his own style, just because it's fast doesn't mean it's soulless, and if your opinion differs, no harm, it's an opinion that's why it's sometimes best we keep them to ourselves.
I <3 Paul Gilbert. This is SOOOOO much better than the over-hyped Prince version. This is certainly among the greatest rock guitar solo's ever laid down, and so few people even know about it.
It is personnally my best "shred semi improv solo"(haha precise!!) of couse kind of by the rules but I don't think that in this particular song extreme technicality is not necessary..Paul puts his heart in this solo and not his ego...Brought a tear to my eye..!!!
@Saintuana you don't tap actually.. you pick and simultaneously let your thumb mute out those overtones and the strings vibrate around the node like a normal harmonic. there's a reason why they call it 'pinch' harmonic...
Thats not showing off. It all supports the melody. Furthermore when Gilbert Looks up and shakes his head from side to side, hes in the zone, and thats where the magic starts. You probably just want him to play the original solo, but then the music wouldnt evolve. five stars.
I have just one word to say about this perfromance. WOW!!!. Paul Gilbert's playing just leave me speechless he is that good. But the rest of the band do a good job also. Brilliant stuff from a brilliant covers band.
Holy. Shit. I think he might've outplayed Clapton a bit on that solo. Both musical and technical; incredible.

@falconer333 It was an Ibanez PGM, actually.

@neilomac Well sorry mate, I was just trying to help a brother out. The shape is exactly the same as an RG. "PGM" is purely a marketing gimmick.

You probably just want him to play the original solo, but then the music wouldnt evolve. five stars.

@pertrucci INFINITE STARS!
He's so in the zone, as u put it before.
