  • This would never work with my hakama. I would be screwed if I let go of the ties and casually pull them tight.

  • sounded like he farted when he reached back at :42 lol

  • wow, ando sensei is really sexy! is he single?

  • ihad forqot how to put on my hakama

  • For those saying he did it wrong. Empty your cup. There are many ways to do many things. Just because you learned one way does not mean another is wrong. If you react the same way when learning a new technique, then you will be very limited in what you can learn. Ope your hearts, your minds, and be willing to learn new different ways.

  • The little jump @ 0:39, is just epic, i realy love it

  • Earned the right to wear these last saturday, along with my brown belt! yeeeeah!

  • domo arigato!! =D Rei!!!

  • These are the awesomest pants ever. I am so getting some.

  • man, going to the bathroom must be a real chore..

  • This guy failed. He doesn't know how to do it. And why is he teaching others his mistakes? Does anyone noticed?

  • This guy failed. He doesn't know how to do it. And why is he teaching others his mistakes?

  • i could kill that dojo by my self with my lust blade

  • isn't it suppose to cover your feet?

  • @DanTheShotokanKid it does cover your feet

  • in yoshinkan the hakama is use only by the black belts???????? i see many videos that the studen only use the gi why??????explain to me please?

  • I think it depends on the school. Years ago, when O sensei was teaching, it was required for all students to wear hakama, as gi(kimono) is actualy an underwear. But during those years Japan was poor country and to get even DIY hakama from curtains or something like that was a challenge. So some students in some schools had to train without one.

Historically, hakama is just a part of one's uniform and does not show the quality of your skills.

  • as someone who is only self trained i can tell u for sure i dont know much

i guess its just a way to show ranking and eldership within the martial art

  • @yumak2006 not only in yoshinkan.. In Aikikai when you pass your shodan test or 1st degree black belt test you start to wear hakamas... for beginners to 1st kyu you wear Gi.. In Aikido having a black belt doesn't mean you're the toughest or strongest among anyone else it means to become a better human being...

  • simply put everyone can where a hakama. there are specific types of hakama for different styles but other male or female alike where the common hakama.

  • Yes, girls can wear hakama. We frequently wear them in naginata.

  • wear them in naginata?isn't a naginata a weapon? I'm not sure... please correct me D: at first I thought that was a place, w. I am very confused. I would love a reply.

  • Naginata is both a weapon and a sport.

  • Oh! I get it now! Is naginagta a men's and women's sport then?

  • Yes and no. Typically naginata is practiced by women, however there are now a lot of men who also practice the sport. The team at my dojo is an even number of boys and girls.

However, boys and girls usually don't compete against each other (outside of normal practice, at least).

  • course they are!

  • thank you for replying! I just wasn't sure.I wouldn't want the equivalent of a man in a dress. :X I am not familiar with the customs and wouldn't want to look strange. :D I'm surprised I started so any replies! now I can't help but wonder if there were women samurai. I'm pretty sure there weren't any though. D:

  • are girls allowed to wear Hakama?

  • No. Girls were never samurai so they werent allowed to wear hakama. Sadly. However, now, most likely there are female hakama, specifically designed.

  • females wore hakamas at least mikos did. you know those red ones.

  • And besides the mikos, there's a kind of girl hakama they usually wear on ceremonies.

  • from what i know that actually have hakamas made especially to fit girls

but before that they wore the same hakamas as the dudes so yes

  • It looks so cute when he jumps. ;p <3

  • ok...

  • you be nice

  • Whats jumps?

  • wtf! how am i suppose to keep tying those belts?? why dont japanese introduce button stuff!!

  • LOL

  • tradition

  • because its effective. do u wanna pop your buttons so everybody knows you do transvestite aikido :)? !!!!!! jk

  • yeah, good but the camera man totally screwed it up lol 8-)

  • Thanks for the basic.

    Bow

  • He used his right leg first, what a basic mistake

  • lol XP

  • its not a mistake.. if you read the etiquette, you see that all students must step into their kendoGi with their left feet, and sensei's must use their right feet.. just the same when entering a dojo.. students left, sensei's right.. but when it comes to keikoGi everyone have to have the left side over the right side..

  • Wow..thats a hell of alot more effort then I put into it...But I spoze if it dont fall down half way through class IT'LL DO!

  • tks tks tks!

  • lol never did it like that before, think ill try it sometime

  • There is more than one way to use a hakama. Maybe he thinks you dont have an idea how to wear one.

This is also different from the way it is used in my dojo. I think that if that hakama can hold still for 3h of practice, then it was put the correct way.

  • This is pretty much the way I learned 40 years ago. Today instead of the ties being outside in the back, they go inside across the top of the butt.,leaving a cleaner line down the back. Also, the fancy folding of the ties when folding hakama was only for the senseis back then, not for us grunts. It would have been considered too egotistical to fold it in the same way as the senseis. Aah, I'm gettin' old.

  • yea dude i know.

  • There are different ways to tie on a hakama for different occasions (as well as different budo ryu-ha) as well as there are different ways of folding it.

Shinto priests tend to know a lot of the different applications I have found.

There are different hakama for different purposes too.

I think you'd look in to it.

    You might find it interesting.

  • cannot see.

  • im interested on how the knots in front are done. its hard to see black on black in the video, but overall its very very helpful.

  • VERY HELPFULL!!!

  • many years before i can put on one. a big hello back to Hiryukan Dojo. :)

  • domo-arigato ando sensei and a big hello from the hiryukan dojo.

  • osu! Thanks for sharing Ando sensei.
