Frank Miller destroyed everything cool about Batman. Batman was always cool because he was a dark comic character that still always had a bit of campyness to him. But the campyness never felt like it didn't belong. TDK is far TOO serious. Especially the new style Joker. There simply just wasn't enough Batman in TDK to be called a Batman movie. It was more a Joker movie. Tim Burton still did the best dark take on the Batman series in film form. He accepted the campyness and just used it.
