white man stole our land. we been fightin terorism since 1492. white man got his first little taste this decade.hate it happened but they killed thousands of indians.
The first time I met the Band was in 1970, when they came to my High school, and sang this and "The Witch Queen of new Orleans"... These two songs they layed on us as a test and promotion, prior to official release. Never forgot this an Awesome Experience!!!
This is NATIONAL AMERICAN INDIAN HERITAGE MONTH... YaTaHai !!!
I was not aware about Tony Bellamy's passing. How very sad. I was grieving my own loss of my dad passing right before Christmas, then the passing Christmas eve morning of a legend radio disc jockey who used to play this song when it was new on the charts in 1971 in Philadelphia, his name was George Michael the very man who went on to do the Sports Machine program.
I am still a big Redbone fan, have the original "Potlatch" album this came off of. Well RIP Tony
John "Records" Landecker on crosstown rival WIBG played it first, this in turn forced King George Michael & WFIL to play this great record. This story was told to me by John Landecker at the Radio Greats Reunion on WOGL and Jay Cook verified this story. Awesome record.
AWESOME montage. Many thanks, Abby. Man... GREAT tunes. We used to play all of them (back in the day) in a band called 'Great Canadian RIver Race.' Our drummer, Matt Frenette went on to become the driving force behind Loverboy's sound. Wonderful memories... thanks again!
I met this girl from Calvary, Canada. Her name was Annie. She asked me if I had ever heard the song Maggie. Little did I know they would be my friends Pat and Lolly Vegas. To one of the most beautiful women I have ever met....Annie. Hope you are well.
Abby, thanks for posting! Maggie is a great song, with its irresistable choppy rolling groove, unique sound, social message - my favorite Redbone single - and the chants are awesome
Get it on... nice mix and great post, thats the funk Im talkn bout! Long time fan... Love it Luna This sound, beat, vocals, all jamn ,Lolly getn down and the whole band showing the best of the best.,the whole chemistry will never be again. Wow just brings me back to a time that I love to relish in. Like altering my mind and no side effects.. LOL, Kudos to you Abby Love it Luna
One of the Greatest boogie songs ever recorded. Lolly Vegas disovered the technique of hooking up one channel of his guitar output to an organ leslie, and the rest is history. Hats off to one of my all time favorite songs.
You said it all when you said Discovered because he did just that. dont think I have seen another comment that specific.watching the early jams when one of the 4 would come outta nowhere and without a single hesitation the friendly game of tag would start, ya know what I mean. Lolly could go some crazy places. I guess Tony has made it to the Big TIme now FOREVER. Man time flys.
Nebular job on the video. Redbone rocks!
