Despite what the commentators predicting an easy win for Germany, actually the game was a nightmare for the germans who managed a scrappy win 4 minutes from time thanks to a ghost penalty after a blatant dive by Voller. Even an understrength Argentinian team -who played the entire second half down to 9 players and had come into the game with no less than 5 players ruled out for this final due to yellow cards!- couldn't be defeated by a full strength Germany who had to turn to the ref for help.

@zodyce ridicules, there was a clear penalty foul in fist half, argentina had no chance at all, only reached quarter final, and semi final by penalties. they tried that against germany again, and failed. germany had a lot of clear chances, but just did not score until refugees gave the "late" penalty, wich should have been given in first half 1. the red cards were absolut correct! Thats it!

Have you actually seen the match? Germany has outplayed Argentina for the full 90 minutes and had enough chances and at least a penalty, that should have been given but wasn't, to win the match. The only bad thing about the German performance is, that they didn't use of their chances earlier. This match was a humiliation like quarter final against Argentina in 2010, just without goals, and many people say, that this final was one of most one sided in the World Cuup-history.

Voller fell over a stretched out leg that, however, had arguably played the ball first (then again, a couple of minutes earlier Augenthlaer was denied a clear penalty).

And Argentina was 3 minutes down to 9 men, not the entire second half.

The germans won WC 1974 against the netherlands fair and square, cant say the same about the way argentina won it in 1978 against the same netherland bar cruyeff. Shame on argentina for kidnapping cruyeffs family, they should give back their medals.
