Being wired with a desktop isnt all that bad. But why done you get a slightly longer chord and put it over the door frame? It would be a lot less noticeable, no tripping and no ugly rug. You could even paint it to match the floors.

It's not nearly as bad as having a 100-foot ethernet cable twisting and turning throughout the whole house. And besides, wired internet is faster.
