  • Seriously? ATDI is good, but is shit compared to mars, seriously people, the volta are the best band in history of prog rock!

  • Comment removed

  • whats the hate on the mars volta, genuinely not just because im a fan it shows that omar and cedric can play different styles of music and can appreciate different styles of music. i still love both bands but dont just think atdi is the only type of music they play and acknowlage the talent in both bands.

  • This band is so f-cking good it makes me sick when i hear The Marz Volta.

  • Lazarus threw the party, Lazarus threw the fight.

  • tema culiao malo

  • どどどど童貞ちゃうわ!

  • the only good band out of hell paso how did they do it!!!!!!

  • Taser Taser Kindergarten Nap Nap Time! Love these guys!

  • Taser Taser Kindergarten Nap Nap Time! Love these guys!

  • ревфервгервфрвервевеф3333ррфсдсфв бргнмъуи7к7ът

  • Everyone hear who likes At The Drive-in, check out Officer Uranium on Facebook, it would mean the world.

  • Awesome!

    かっこいい!

  • I think most of marz volta vocals are cringe-worthy, had to actually turn it off, how anyone can listen that music without a bucket of salt is beyond me

  • @horsex5 I'll respect your opinion and all but seriously Cedric's vocals are incredible with TMV even if you like At The Drive-in better. His range is incredible, if you research it on here i'm sure you'll find a video showing that.

  • @revolver188 Yeah I got a shot of the first 2 albums, listened to em both but I just couldnt get past the vocals, the music was pretty good though

  • @horsex5 Yeah Omar's a great writer. Bought De-Loused just last week and I need Frances. They're their best albums by far, but I understand. When I first started listening to them I wasn't too sure about his voice for a little while. I knew he was talented but it was just the sound I wasn't used too. What stuff you usually listen too anyhow?

  • @revolver188 Drive Like Jehu, Built to Spill, Modest Mouse, Les Savy Fav, Dinosaur Jr, RFTC, Pavement, Superchunk, RJD2, The Beatles, Hot Snakes, The Pixies, a bunch of others aswell, yourself?

  • @horsex5 Pixies, Beatles, Modest Mouse and Dinosaur Jr are all I've heard out of those. Usually Bloc Party, Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys, At The Drive-In, Mars Volta, The Last Shadow Puppets, Orchid and Death Cab For Cutie's older stuff.

  • @revolver188 good taste man, you should check out built to spill as they influenced modest mouse and (im sure) death cab for cutie

  • @horsex5 Whoa, fantastic band. Can definitely see a resemblance with them and DCFC especially, thanks for the recommendation man.

  • @revolver188 glad to see you enjoyed them ;-)

  • tight as shit aww yeaaaaa

  • 0:12 どどど童貞ちゃうわ!

  • Very good band, sounds a bit like Thursday

  • one of the best bands of all time

  • ど、ど、ど、ど、童貞ちゃうわ!!!www

  • personally i enjoyed them more before cedric grew electrical ovaries

  • How they went from this to something as godly as The Mars Volta? The world will never fucking know.

  • @MikeTheGuy00 are u kidding? this is way better then marz volta

  • @ExisTencePerse None of their older band's works can compare to the "Miranda" Series... De-Loused, or Bedlam in Goliath... Oroborous...

Not one bit. Listen to more than just The Widow, more like - Every song in their albums... let it settle. It's way better than At The Drive in's work.

  • @MikeTheGuy00 I partially agree, with De-Loused ya. But listen to 1:30 sounds just like Marz Volta and to me At the drive in has alot more life in it and the vocals are better, excluding some of de-loused.

  • @ExisTencePerse I'll never mention anything about the vocals being worse or better. it's always been good in every single one of the albums cedric and omar have worked in, the vocals have been sweet.

won't argue about at the drive in having more life. But let their recent works do the talking. The essence of a filmwork... the ambient theatrics. ATDI consisted of greatly written pieces, though, TMV consists of all the shades and lights - along with the stories. That's music brought to life.

  • @ExisTencePerse Honestly, there really isn't a point to talking about this... both bands are awesome. Well, one was. And the geniuses continue to make great music. Okay, finished. Now listen to the song everybody.

  • atdi>tvv>sparta

  • bullet ridden the vermin be it the peasant start frenzy

  • The first 36 seconds of this song has more energy than anything I have ever heard before.

My favorite ATDI song... I think.

  • Post-Hardcore

  • atop this podium

    built of fixation

    they like to choke

    all utensils fixed on yoo0o0o0o0o0ou!!!!!

  • 0_0

  • 0:13 fa-fa-fa-fa fawlty towers?

    love this band!

  • 0:13 Do Do Do Do Doteichauwa

  • slightly reminds me of rage against the machine, vocally sounding that is

  • hahaha...awful noisy retardo muzak. is the singer a half nigga or just having an identity crisis

  • @jesusjerkoffisgod racist asshole

  • @MegaBlahblahbla hahaha...i race around in yer mom's asshole. ur dad does da same in yours

  • @jesusjerkoffisgod lol i remember you, ur that dude that used to troll Elliott Smith videos

  • @987657654321 hahaha...i trolled yer mom's ass too

  • @jesusjerkoffisgod With a name like that you have to be a fool. However, you deserve a portion of my scorn all the same. Your insipid utterances are best kept to yourself on the dark nights you spend alone in contemplation of your lack of ego.

You need help and I am the one to guide you through your morass of self-abasement. Purity be with you buffoon.

  • this band is great such character in each song .....fuck the haters die dumb scum

  • wtf

  • this song goes so hard

  • I don't think it would be a good idea to get them back together.

Explanation: It wouldn't be the same. Cedric doesn't really shout anymore, and he's grown up enough musically enough to not go back to this type of music. So, it would pretty much be TMV called ATDI. Then, hardcore ATDI fans would realize it's not the same and be upset, and they would only have the people who only liked TMV left, which isn't alot since the band didn't split up that long ago.. But I can talk forever. Summary:BADIDEA

  • Strawberry, you're stupid. He does shout, and just because they are older doesn't mean he won't go back to this. If they weren't thinking about getting back together, than they'd still be doing their own thing.

  • dude weezer suckssssssss

  • no no no no I'm not a virgin

  • i love the intro to this song, hes such an amazing singer

  • Best band ever!!!

  • @DKillG Don't know about that...

  • @DKillG one of the best band ever period

  • @DKillG next to mars volta

  • 0:12

    ど・ど・ど・ど童貞ちゃうわ!

  • I heard that Cedric said he'd do an ATDI reunion if Jim died first, or something like that. I wouldn't count on it. And yes, venom 3114, this band is way better than the mars volta and sparta combined! No wait, it IS the mars volta and sparta combined. Haha, you know what I mean. I like the sum better than the latter.

  • This vid is fucking awesome and some history to just listeners to At the Drive in. I hope I get a reunited At the Drive In album for Christmas among other things

  • This band gets me pumped up everytime I hear them haha, What a tragedy they broke up.

    <3

  • Good band but a shadow of the mars Volta

  • I dunno, i'd say they were better than TMV

  • This band is fucking ten times better than the Mars Volta.

  • One of the best bands ever!

  • @VerdaechtigUeblicher

    da hast du recht

  • oh naw man atdi was post hardcore all the way man...but i can see why u would think they would be punk (:

  • its all good

i saw on the almighty wikipedia that they were labeled emo, or emotive hardcore

and i really didnt understand why till i started listening to in/casino/out and ROC

    i guess they really evolved

just imagine what they couldve been

  • I think we saw what they coulda been. It sucks when a band hits their peak and then doesn't stop. Like Nirvana peaked, then stopped, so we remember them. KoRn on the other hand, used to rule the world, and they still play music and no one gives a shit. Jon Davis shoulda died years ago. ROC was a great note to end it on. Sparta and Mars Volta shows us they didn't have much left in them. If they woulda kept going, we might all hate them. Or worse: forgotten them. Like KoRn ha

  • i really dont think do

nirvana and korn were part of a dying fad

that was doomed from the start

ADT-I however was special their groove could have lasted them another couple albums

i mean their evolution from hell paso to ROC was astounding they just got better and better,TMV has a lot of rythm and talent but when it gets all masged together sometimes it sounds really bad to be honest

the intro's for like arc arsenal and catacombs are just freakin bone-chilling epic

  • Both Nirvana and Korn did something that had never really been done before. Even if its not your taste you gotta admit it was different than anything in their day. ATDI was similar in that even to this day, no one really sounds like them. I don't doubt they mighta had a couple more really good albums left to make, but it wouldn't have been much. ROC is hard to top. Its possible they coulda done better. Its also possible they coulda killed it. Im just glad they stopped when they did. Just in case

  • Hehehe, I think the old saying for ladies applies to rock bands as well "A Lady always knows when to leave". KoRn didn't know when it was time to just move on, so, now, they've fade away.

  • Its true. Kurt Cobain wrote in his suicide note that he killed himself because "its better to burn out than to fade away".

  • Haha, you noticed I used that bit eh? I bow to you!

  • I totally agree. As much as I LOVE Weezer, their new music isn't as good as their old stuff and I'm afraid they're just going to slowly fade away.

  • I had tickets to see Weezer back in 2001. I bought the tickets way ahead of time only to realize that the day of the show, some asshole flew a plane into a building and the show got canceled. The show was set for 9/11/2001. However, they recently played with Blink182 and TBS. I didn't see that show but I've been told that they still mostly play their old stuff, so there might be some time to catch a good live experience before that band completely destroys itself and fades away.

  • wow...boohoo..im sorry over 1000 people lost their lives and you did not get to see weezer...grow uo you asshole..

  • Says the kid displaying "sensitivity toward the victims" on a youtube video completely unrelated to the subject of terror attacks altogether.

  • You could stop with the labels and just call it rock? ;)

  • ATDI was punk listen to star slight

  • no bro u did it wrong it should look a lil like this tmv < atdi (:

  • TMV>ATDI

  • Never! No one can compare to At the Drive-In's energy and passion on stage...amazing band why did they have to break up damn it...

  • No,just simply no.

  • Beautiful tribute, thanks for post!

  • どどどど童貞ちゃうわ

  • @hiroshi558 aaa claro =)

  • i wish they where still together D:

  • God damn I havent heard these guys for years. Awesome awesome band.

  • There is a chance that they will get back together, they've been talking about that from what I've heard

  • I think Cedric was quoted as saying they'd get back together if and when Jim Ward died. I wouldn't count on it bro, they hate each other.

  • not anymore. Omar got them all together so they could striaghten shit out. They said it could happen once they got the financial stuff dealt with cause there label screwed them

  • Typical record label. It would be so sweet if they reunited. They'd sound a lot more like Chiodos now that Cedric has his less course, more refined, extra girly voice. Anyway, where'd you get that information?

  • it does suck that they broke up but we wouldnt have the mars volta if they didnt....

  • @monstersback420 I don't see what you're getting at...

  • Sucks tat they broke up... ;/

  • Even if they didn't break up.... one of them died... you know where this is going?

  • I find those who argue against what genre a certain band is are shallow and pedantic, much like Lois' meatloaf.

  • LOL

  • without looking in a dictionary or googling it, can you tell me what the word pedantic means?

  • Apparently you're the one who doesn't know what the word means because it's a proper word to use for what the dude was talking about.

  • どどどど童貞ちゃうわ!

  • In the words of BIlly Joel it's still rock and roll to me.

  • whatever they are i can groove to this

  • Whatever it is. It's excellent music.

  • Let's clear some things up. This is punk. Ratm came first (Who cares?) This song rocks. ATDI rocks. The album rocks.

  • Let's clear some more things up. This is not punk...or at least not completely.

  • why do people wanna get so technical on what the genre is? so wack. People tryin to sound knowledgeable and egotistic.

if punk is meant to be conscious and raw then this is punk to me...

  • Thats totally not true.maybe you don't like it, but there is equal passion in both ATDI and TMV. They're tow different genre's of rock music, and they both show signs of genius. There's passion in most all music.

  • Mars Volta is shit. ATDI was where the passion was

  • i agree. i love ATDI, but TMV just isnt the same.. rele hoping i could hear new stuff from ATDI.. so sad. =/

  • ATDI started in 93'

    Ratm started in 91'

  • The best punk band of the 21st century!!!

TMV rock too, but ATDI is the greatest

  • Yes, it is. You see, there is more than one punk sound.

You know how Elvis was the king of rock? Yeah, we call that country now. At the Drive-In was classified as punk.

  • who's we? that is rock n roll to me...that is why I wanna smack someone when they say "yeah rock n roll dude!" to me and they have no clue"

this isn't punk...punk would be MC5...real punk at least so in a sense TMV is more punk than ATDI

  • totally agree.

  • one of the best albums ever made!

  • ど、ど、ど、ど、童貞ちゃうわ!

  • paul (or pablo) hinojos is also in mars volta

  • Lovelove this song!

  • relationship of command

  • ど・ど・ど・ど童貞ちゃうわ!

  • ATDI, I really like them, have for years

  • Brilliant album this is on. Not sure if this is the best song on it, but I think so.

  • they are energetic

  • that's an understatement dude

  • youre really missing out man

  • I love this album. Fuck Everyone who doesn't.

  • You said it, dude. Can any1 tell me if any of these members are with The Mars Volta?

  • Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodríguez-López are in mars volta too.

  • Basicly the guys with the coolest hair:D

  • Cedric, and Omar. You can tell by the similarities in the lyrics. I think at least another one of them has guest appearances in TMV.

  • どどどど、童貞ちゃうわ!

  • ATDI toured with RATM right before they recorded Relationship of Command.. so there is a connection there.. but to compare the two.. well they certainly both pioneered amazing new sounds.. but they are not similar enough to really say one is better than the other. They Both Rock! Just be glad that they both exist so you don't have to listen to the average generic crap thats so popular these days!

  • i find they sound quite like rise against

  • i find rise against sounds like nickelback compared to this.

  • I agree. I think that it is hard to understate the influence that touring with one band plays on an other when the other has been touring and writing songs independently for almost 7 years at that point. I can see how Cedric's voice attacks in a similiar way as Zach's but that is basically a coincidence, not something that evolved out of ATDI listening to RATM. To me to say Cedric ripped his style off of Zach is like saying I've never heard ATDI before RoC and want to pass judgement on them. :P

  • I love The Mars Volta, ATDI AND Omar, but the new cryptomensia by him is awful. Good musicianship technically, but still awful.

  • 'Bout as awful as Jim's new shit, Sleepercar. *shudders*

  • Oh, but I looooove that album!!!! C'mon man, Cryptomnesia rules, it's chaotic, has funny lyrics, unique melodies, it's really one hell of an album! :)

  • No, I'm sorry, but Crytomensia is just another one of Omar's solo churn-out-four-albums a year mindfucks. Except for Old Money, he's been doing that same thing for years and it's time people got tired of it and forced him to go back to being the godly musician he used to be.

  • i really like his voice, good song

  • I think it was invalid litter department

  • there seems to be a prevailing theme of abuse/brainwashing/desensitizing/ behavioral conditioning, particularly in this song. taser taser kindergarten nap nap time pacifier pacifies. Being taught docility and not to question authority. Maybe im reading to much into it but i do remember reading an interview with the band and they were talking about one song which was inspired by news of people in some central american country having been "disappeared" by their government.

  • maybe the title suggests something like a pill (capsule) that makes people pretty much robots to society and their government. (like theyre sleepwalking or something?) idk thats what i get from it

  • Aesthetically Rage and At the Drive In's respective sounds or styles or whatever are i think pretty distinctly different. But as i understand it alot of Relationship of Command is about the oppression or subjugation of Group AbyGroup B (hence the title).Group A being the many hard working proletariat type and Group B being the few elite. And although the lyrics on this album are far more cryptic than a song like Sleep now in the Fire by Ragewhich makes blatant historicalreferences to imperialism,

  • I was responding to the guy who said RATM are better musicians not you. And no I don't see the connection there either, they have a dramatically different soudn.

  • better musicians?

uhhh these guys were KIDS when this album was released.. listen to the latest mars volta album, or check out cryptomnesia and tell me they aren't incredible musicians.

    people improve over time

  • RATM are far more different band...and far more better players.-..sorry...I dig both bands!!

  • Does anyone think that these guys sound a little like Rage Against The Machine?

  • a little bit yeah but better

  • No. Rage against the machine sounds like At the Drive in.

  • never atdi are way better

  • Learn to read. That's exactly what I said.

  • ratm was first

  • ya, i seriouly thought i was the only one who felt that way.

  • holy shit i love this fuckin bamd

  • eww god no

  • They sound nothing like that band, and they are far more talented.

  • Either way, just parts of this song sound like R.A. Thats all I'm saying.

  • Actually, I can understand what he means, when he strains his voice he sounds a bit like Tim from Rise Against, however, the instrumentation is completely different.

  • Taser taser kindergarten nap nap time!

  • love omar at 1:27

  • whoaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa holy shit, this blows my fucking mind!!!! AWESOME :D:D

  • I think they would have made much more money and had more fans if the didn't turn into The Mars Volta.
