The people still playing this game must be into scat fetish - because that's what Funcom has been doing to their customers...but hey - the in game stores are still open to spend real money to help pay for the other games funcom is coming out with. They will never see a dime from me again - I am AO-free as of about 3 years ago.
I started playing this game in mid 2005. Man this game was fun then, and still is today. When this graphic update is fully installed, I may be a full pledged gamer again, like I was before.
3. Work is going well on the Engine. Work began in earnest this week in "cutting out" the old engine completely. A very important step in the optimization phase of the engine work. It is almost safe to say at this point that "integration" is "done"...which is an amazing achievement considering the time that they have had to work with the Dreamworld engine.
I love Anarchy Online, of the many online games ive played since the late 90's, AO was for me, the most deep and interesting, and its a breath of fresh air from those those rubbishy Asian Kung Fu Clones. When is AO getting these graphic updates? I'll play the game again, but not untill something is down about those graphics.
to use the same engine wow was using yes, but now they are using the same engine as AOC or something.. maybe the same one as secret world new mmo from funcom coming soon. :)

AO is a lot more indpeth than WoW but both are good games. Wow has the graphics and user friendlyness, anarchy has complexity and depth. I am looking forward to the new engine though it looks great
its sooooo easy to understand if you do the quest right when you warp from noob island to rome/west athen/ borealis. but nobody does because everybody just goes straight to subway and power lvls =/
Im serious, and 15. Anarchy online is harder to understand what to do, less fokes plays it, so much of everything (plasma, shields, buffs) but wow is more "complex". And ive tryed to play Anarchy online... But it just dont suits for me

wow is extremely dumbed down and kiddie gloved now. It USED to be challenging when it first came out but after about 6 months the nerfs began. Now people are able to hit the max level in a matter of days. its ridiculous. its so easy it was only a matter of days after each Xpack before some guild completely cleared the hardest endgame raid.
One of my best friends is playing Anarchy online daily, and he loves it. But for me, i have allways understood games (no need to read stuff, just reload and run) but i find it very hard to understand what to do in Anarchy online. If there were some kind of easier way to understand the gameplay, then i maybe would play it. =D

Actually, they had been working with the Ogre Engine but realized (unfortunately after two years of working on it) that it wasn't going to do what they needed it to do, and had to start almost from scratch using the Dreamworld Engine (which is being used by Conan and The Secret World).
There isn't any word on when the new engine work will be complete, but Means (the Game Director) has been posting regular updates each week on the progress. It seems like it is coming together alot more smoothly than when they were working with Ogre. Most people are expecting the new engine to be released sometime in 2010.
i'm glad they ditched the Ogre engine for the dreamworld engine!, Means the GD of AO released a new video of some small update on how the engine is been implemented into AO! looks good but is only a sneak peek :(
@majorgeek Ogre isnt bad but Dreamworld is a really good base (AoC shows how good it can look like). I just hope that they will work on the Animations and Modells too ... Sad that the News about it are really rare - AO is a good Game but it looks horrible actually. I don't have problems with older Graphics but that doesnt mean that it looks bad (like the UO Sprite Engine as Example).

They scrapped this engine after almost 2 years of work. This video is no longer accurate or representative of the new engine. They are now supposedly going with the AoC engine. so come back in 2-3 years and check again.
i doubt it mate, why would you want to use dx7 anyways.. even most old and defo new pc's will run better on dx9 then 7 :) and the client server side would be dx 9 anyways
me and my friends plan on playing this game at my lan party. and since they dont have computers (oddly all of their computers died awhile back) they will have to use my old computers.those have older intel graphics and ati rage cards. All of these machines are dells my old inspiron 7000 has a rage mobility pro, my gx1 has ati rage x2 turbo agp, my gx110 has intel 810 graphics and my gx150 has intel 815 graphics. lmao would prob run the game slow in dx7 mode those things r so old.
i dont trust my friends with my newer machines :) they have dx9 cards. my hp (dosent have any hp parts in it tho) has a 5700LE i pulled from another computer. my dell e310 has the 82915 intel graphics which has pixel shader 2.0 but i might put a geforce 8400gs in it). then my custom built has the geforce 8800gt (upgradin to gtx 285 this week) then my other custom built has a geforce 9600gt and my emachine is gonna get my 8800gt once i upgrade if its mobo dosent keep freakin out.
as far as I know it is coming, they started updating the character textures right now, the expected date for this to be put out is sometime this fall, but I expect it to go over a bit. And I can easily live with that.
yeah it's taking awhile mate, i think they have something ready for the test server that they were working on in the next month or two for testing then going to live servers proboblies autumn maybe winter who knows they aren't the fastest company to roll out patches/updates:p

I remember when DOOM 3 screenshots were first released my jaw hit the floor due to the realistic real time shadows that actually moved with the light source!- Now all games have that! well ok controls is hard to understand what exactly what i ment.
I mean camara view u can't look up and down if ur not in first player camara, plus all those UI looks terrible well they could make them alot more smoother.
but the most i would like that they change camera feeling, make it alot smoother to be able to look with it easly up and down, even u r in thrid person view.
I'm not sure what game it was you were playing, but you can easily change the camera control, even in third person. Right-click and hold, then move your camera. Simple as that :P The graphic update will be very nice, and bring some new blood to the game. All things being equal, AO has probably the deepest gameplay of any mmo out there right not. The learning curve is massive, and that's why you'll usually find intellectuals playing this game, not the typical bs you find in something like WoW.
Graphics will look awesome, but what most i want that will be changed is controls, freaking hate them in AO. thats one of the reasons i have stoped playing it...
Holy shit thats Anarchy online!- It looks so much different. Graphics really do change the way people look at the game and the parent company behind the game. It stands for a sign of quality to the gamer. Atleast for me it does. A game with a gorgeous graphics engine represents a company that knows what its doing, spent the time and resources to make great set pieces to stage the game. Thats why we buy these ridiculous graphics cards and then we CrossFire/Sli them right?!
But I quite some time ago because the combat (the system of hot barring) did my head in, as this made the combat unsmooth in some circumstances. Does anyone think or know if the combat and fighting system is going to be upgraded?
Just lower the settings a bit if you do get a bit laggy. Funcom wouldn't dare not make the settings nonadjustable for the fear to lose all the people who play because of the lack of a decent computer for games like Warhammer and WoW.
This game will actually run BETTER than the current gfx engine. DX7 doesn't use graphics card at all, only the CPU, and thus is very laggy. DX9 will run better no matter what gfx card you have (as long as you have one)
Does anyone feel this could have been done a long time ago like...wow. This shit almost looks like Halo 3 environments in some places. Hell I think the game could like Halo All together but the devs are just being lazy.

All of these machines are dells my old inspiron 7000 has a rage mobility pro, my gx1 has ati rage x2 turbo agp, my gx110 has intel 810 graphics and my gx150 has intel 815 graphics. lmao would prob run the game slow in dx7 mode those things r so old.

i dont trust my friends with my newer machines :) they have dx9 cards. my hp (dosent have any hp parts in it tho) has a 5700LE i pulled from another computer. my dell e310 has the 82915 intel graphics which has pixel shader 2.0 but i might put a geforce 8400gs in it). then my custom built has the geforce 8800gt (upgradin to gtx 285 this week) then my other custom built has a geforce 9600gt and my emachine is gonna get my 8800gt once i upgrade if its mobo dosent keep freakin out.

I don't think, this engine will come. Funcom has to put much attention to Age of Conan.

as far as I know it is coming, they started updating the character textures right now, the expected date for this to be put out is sometime this fall, but I expect it to go over a bit. And I can easily live with that.

yeah it's taking awhile mate, i think they have something ready for the test server that they were working on in the next month or two for testing then going to live servers proboblies autumn maybe winter who knows they aren't the fastest company to roll out patches/updates:p

damn those graphics are gorgeous for an mmo! Gotta love the real time shadows! I remember when DOOM 3 screenshots were first released my jaw hit the floor due to the realistic real time shadows that actually moved with the light source!- Now all games have that! It truly is a great time to be a PC gamer! Fuck Consoles, PC gamers have all the greatest technology and graphics engines first! We are the fore front of gaming technologies!~

Us PC Gamers have had PS3 and 360 level of graphics since 2000, and when these "HD" Consoles were first released all these stupid console fanboys were like "OMG THESE GRAPHICS ARE AMAZING"- When the PC has had Real Time lighting, physics, Ambient lighting, Occlusion mapping, Bump maps/normal mapping, Parallax Shaders, Volumetric Fog and particle effects ETC ETC 6 or 7 years ahead of the console. LOL ignorant Console fanboys don't realize what theyre missing out on.

Funny you say that- (you sound like a console fanboy) when Macs have to buy A WHOLE NEW COMPUTER when they need more speed and Console players have to spend $60 to $70 bucks a game and $500 to $600 bucks on a console along with a bunch of controllers and a Big Screen and sound system for a High End experience and you still won't come close to PC Graphics. well ok controls is hard to understand what exactly what i ment.
I mean camara view u can't look up and down if ur not in first player camara, plus all those UI looks terrible well they could make them alot more smoother.
but the most i would like that they change camera feeling, make it alot smoother to be able to look with it easly up and down, even u r in thrid person view.

I'm not sure what game it was you were playing, but you can easily change the camera control, even in third person. Right-click and hold, then move your camera. Simple as that :P The graphic update will be very nice, and bring some new blood to the game. All things being equal, AO has probably the deepest gameplay of any mmo out there right not. The learning curve is massive, and that's why you'll usually find intellectuals playing this game, not the typical bs you find in something like WoW.

Holy shit thats Anarchy online!- It looks so much different. Graphics really do change the way people look at the game and the parent company behind the game. It stands for a sign of quality to the gamer. Atleast for me it does. A game with a gorgeous graphics engine represents a company that knows what its doing, spent the time and resources to make great set pieces to stage the game. Thats why we buy these ridiculous graphics cards and then we CrossFire/Sli them right?!

Just lower the settings a bit if you do get a bit laggy. Funcom wouldn't dare not make the settings nonadjustable for the fear to lose all the people who play because of the lack of a decent computer for games like Warhammer and WoW.

This game will actually run BETTER than the current gfx engine. DX7 doesn't use graphics card at all, only the CPU, and thus is very laggy. DX9 will run better no matter what gfx card you have (as long as you have one)
