I had no idea Mr. Wizard has been around this long. I just remember watching him when I was a kid in the 80's and I thought the experiments were awesome.
How long was Mr. Wizard on television? I remember watching him from the mid to late 80's on Nickelodeon, when I was a youngun', but this recording looks like it was in the 60's maybe?
@dslgunner1977 It first aired in 1951 and i think this is one of the first episodes. It was also revived in the early 70s and then again in the early 80s to 1990. There is an IMDb page for Rita Walter who stars in this episode. Apparently she went on to act in The Patty Duke Show and As The World Turns.
@Nataloff I think both worked with water, but you're probably right. Galileo worked more I think with buoyancy of objects (whether they will float or sink), while Archimedes...well most people know his "Eureka!" moment in the bathtub story.
That has to be Don Pardo announcing. I would know that voice anywhere. I think some of these were done live from Chicago and most are only now available on kinescope. This is a very interesting episode.
Mr. Wizard used to be done from NBC in Chicago, but in the last few years of broadcast on Saturdays, it was done at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York. Yes, that was Don Pardo. I believe the program was cancelled in 1965, when NBC decided to convert all studio facilities to color broadcasting, but I am not 100% sure.
I guess the 2 people that don't like this are a bit slow.

I'm 50 years too late with this, but at 3:30 shouldn't it be Archimedes instead of Galileo?
