But what I was saying is that from the countries in the middle east, all they are trying to do is make the most money out of the resources they have. @ultravincent First, OPEC isn't part of a free market. Secondly, in global trade, it's not a free market since there are tariffs and import and export quotas and limits. Third, for necessities, there isn't a free market. It's why utility providers can't charge insane prices in areas that have no other options for water providers or electricity suppliers. The price levels have always been manipulated for reasons only clear to the manipulators. The "free market" for oil does not work and should be locked. The world is slave to the price otherwise and you see so much misery because of it.
Once gas becomes $5 and more per gallon, you're going to see "change." Maybe in this case no change. If this is what you are interested in living through, you can have it. It will hurt us all badly.

However, what I find shameful, is the technology transfer to countries such as China and India. Intellectual property developed in America is gladly handed over to other countries just because companies can make higher profits. I believe, America should really tighten up on the export of intellectual property. This way, the smart stuff would be made in America only.

The fact of the matter is that when you do that, they are not going to think "its fair" they are going to see a difference in their income, and realize that they cant meet their expenses, and then they will fire you to make up for the difference. They'll just cut your job to save their 50,000 dollars a year.

input cost (oil)
opportunity cost (gasoline vs petroleum distillates) inventory carrying cost
delivery cost (ships, trucks, pipeline) plus this is usually a bottle neck
supply
demand
capacity (expand or don't)
financing availability
and the list goes on
now multiply that but many private firms and you now have a massive piece of work to do.

For a potential presidential candidate to spew belligerent, ignorant rhetoric damages us and incites the uneducated American mob that watches Trump's show. The market makers have much more influence on the price of oil and what it sells at. The speculators are the ones who prey on the fear on the market and create profit opportunities for themselves until arbitrage brings prices to their "true" market level.

@ultravincent First, OPEC isn't part of a free market. Secondly, in global trade, it's not a free market since there are tariffs and import and export quotas and limits. Third, for necessities, there isn't a free market. It's why utility providers can't charge insane prices in areas that have no other options for water providers or electricity suppliers. Free market is based on competition, not oligarchies and monopolies

Mr Trump, you need to understand just WHO is setting the price of oil. It is NOT the Arabs but someone closer to your home. Once you sort that out, then it would be easier to understand.
The price levels have always been manipulated for reasons only clear to the manipulators. The "free market" for oil does not work and should be locked. The world is slave to the price otherwise and you see so much misery because of it.

@KWWilliamson It is hard to stop imports from countries with lower employee wages. That is protectionism and it does not work. However, what I find shameful, is the technology transfer to countries such as China and India. Intellectual property developed in America is gladly handed over to other countries just because companies can make higher profits. I believe, America should really tighten up on the export of intellectual property. This way, the smart stuff would be made in America only.

Leave the US now if you can. Less countries are wanting the American dollar now because of the uncertainty that comes with it because it's price is plummeting. Which means it will collapse within the next 3 months and there will be riots. It was the world reserve currency because of this stability since i think WW2. Meaning the US can pretty much print money legally. Pretty much just get out of the US, don't take the risk which is not in your favour. Like this comment if you understand/agree.

Have you ever received a job from a poor person? I like people who have balls. Obama is too soft, he just makes people feel comfortable. There is nothing wrong with the rich getting richer if they earned it by supplying jobs and services. Many poor people get poorer because of choices.

@molyvenson When you force small business owners to pay more in tax, more in healthcare, and eliminate the corporate advantages you eliminate the rewards of a business. The fact of the matter is that when you do that, they are not going to think "its fair" they are going to see a difference in their income, and realize that they cant meet their expenses, and then they will fire you to make up for the difference. They'll just cut your job to save their 50,000 dollars a year.
