It was because his politics weren't as liberal as she had hoped for and he had a mistrust of her for being British which he felt was the reason, he believed falsely, she was trying undermine the German accession into the world as a power in Europe.

she didn't feel guilty for his handycap, there are parts of her diary which were shown in a documentation on german public television. she said she regrets him being her son, she wished him to be dead. but you're correct on his depression. in the old germanic legends, the king had to be a strong and healthy man to give the "Königsheil" to his people, the patronage of the old germanic gods. though he was christian, he knew the legends of the god-chosen monarchs (last part is in the next comment)

Yes earlier he was an admirer of Britain as most Germans were in the 1880s but he definitely considered himself German first. Later, once Emperor, this admiration became competitive. He also didn't care for how "Uncle Bertie", the King of England conducted himself. The shift away from England came about during the Boer War. It is here that he became suspicious of British relations with Germany and therefore anyone British. It is interesting the obstacles he overcame growing up and is admirable.

Wilhelm I. was not very liberal. He took the Crown of the Empire only because he as asked to do so by the King of Bavaria, the biggest state in the Empire after Prussia. He wanted to invade Switzerland because he thought, every nation should be ruled by a king, but he died before he could try.

Your confusing contemporary liberalism with what was considered liberal for its time. Also, Wilhelm II father was Frederick III NOT Wilhelm I. Comparatively, Frederick III wanted more political freedoms for the average German but this no way implying he was giving up the notion of ruling by "Divine Right" and in fact was in conflict with Bismarck at certain times on the pace of liberalization but he was more liberal than his Father Wilhelm I and his son Wilhelm II.
