these motors use a solenoid built into the motor. the internal solenoid pushes the motor shaft out to engage a gear on startup, which turns over the engine. if that solenoid is burnt up, you will just hear the motor whirring like in this video.
i'd tell you that you need a new motor, but the video is 4 years old and you probably have a new one by now :\
hi, my truck doesnt start, when i turn the key on it doesnt do anything, all the lights work ,but it does start when i do it straight from the starter, does any body know waht it could be?
yea, starter could be sticking, so its not throwing out onto the flywheel as it should, or the starter motor solenoid is on its way out- basically a new starter
the little gear engages using the force of the motor, so either the motor is underpowered (low battery, motor failing) or the gear is jammed in the disengaged position.
hear that buzzing noise after trying to start? thats the sound of your starter motor running but not engaged the engine. check the overrunning clutch on the starter or even the drike yoke. something is keeping that starter from engaging
i've got the same problem with my golf.. i was wondering what the problem was, now i'm pretty sure it's the starter motor. i replaced my battery last year thinking it was that, but it's happening again this winter.. does yours do it more when it's cold? nice one for this
das hört sich an wie der Anlasser ... der ist bestimmt Kaputt :) hatte vor kurzem ein ähnliches Problem

I think your problem might be loose wiring or a broken wire. check your starter and make sure the wiring is intact.

The little gear isn't popping out and connecting to the flywheel. Bad solenoid, maybe?
