  • if you are going to do step by step, then do it.

  • You can blow a head gasket from a number of situations. The most common is not allowing the bike to warm up before riding, especially with a high compression engine. You can find more information at the build a hog web site blog. You could have a warped head, a bad gasket or loose cylinder studs.

You should be able to pull the top end down in the frame just like on the video. You can download the whole thing from the web site to get all the information.

    Thanks,

    Mike Durham

  • im having my headgaskets replaced on my 96" s&s evo, motor has 18,000kms or like 12,000mi is this a very uncommon occurance on this motor? it is a 1997 motor. It is in a 97 dyna frame. does the entire motor need to come out to do this job, or can it be done the same as this vidoe? thanks! great vid

  • That is a tough question to answer without knowing the specifics. It depends if it is a twin cam, sportster, evolution, ect and what the reasoning is as to why it needs to be rebuilt.

  • how much dose it cost to rebuild a engine

  • thanks for the info mate. very useful. thanks

  • great vid mate! keep up the good work. cheers

  • Good Stuff!

  • I'm a monkey "see" on this kind of things, all it take is once for me, next is the electrical!!

  • I would like to see how to put a top end and bottom end together with all the parts laid out. Could you make a video like that?

  • @daddyof220 Hey there,

Our shovelhead engine build will walk you through assembling a bottom end along with the rest of the motor. A shovelhead and Evolution crank case are just about itentical. Thanks!

  • @Buildahoginc did you have to rehone the cyclinder? or can you just put it back together since it all seating rite?

  • Michael , nice vid. But when Panhead's model came out in 1948 they had a similar system like the EVO. Only with the panhead overheating problem, they moved the top oil supply out of the engine again, to the outside, but that's only the last years of Panhead.

  • Very cool, thanks.

  • to true

  • It is really odd that they decide to incorporate the oiling pushprods now, aircraft engines have had those for years. Since both motorcycle and aircraft engines are 4 stroke air cooled, you'd think the tech would migrate faster.
