When the Caliph Umar said this he was referring to the LINGUISTIC meaning of the word "Bid'ah" not the meaning in Islam. Like the word "jihad" linguistically means struggle, but in Islam it means to "elevate the Word of Allah".

When the Caliph Umar said this he was referring to the LINGUISTIC meaning of the word "Bid'ah" not the meaning in Islam. Like the word "jihad" linguistically means struggle, but in Islam it means to "elevate the Word of Allah".

Gays have stronger rights in much of Europe and Canada than they do in the US, for example. How many second or third generation Muslim-Americans do you know that still adhere to strict social customs of the middle east?
