@ShesaFancyshadow I want to sit in that church and hear Mozart's Requiem be performed int here. It would be the epic of epics. I have been there and its beautiful
@IMT00FIERCE I'l go you one better: The berlioz Requiem, with the great organ replacing the orchestra and three brass choirs stationed in the three galleries beneath the three rose windows - North Transept, South Transept, and West End (Main Entrance)!
I just had the tremendous luck to spend a week there as the choir-in-residence, as part of a Royal School of Church Music training course. The only problem was that the docents were convinced that we were a school group and wouldn't let us into the choir room. It was fun evading them :) the place has fantastic acoustics (though challenging for a choir, since it's hard to hear yourself). And it's so beautiful that even these very good photos don't do it justice. Thanks for the video!
i wouldnt call the acoustics fantastic. it has a 14 second echo, it would be hard to find a piece that could last that long. probably a gregorian chant
Thanks for the great video. Beautiful job except for the choice of music. I would have preferred some organ selections. Despite my atheism, the cathedral remains a favorite and must visit whenever I visit Washington. It's a monument to man's creativity and persistence.
Great Pictures. The National Cathedral is no doubt a beautiful church and a majestic setting to worship and praise God in that is not found in more modern church architecture. I hope to visit this grand house of God someday.
This is nice. I do hope that people do understand that there is no such thing as a "national cathedral". This is the Episcopal Cathedral Church of St. Peter and St. Paul. It is the metropolitan cathedral of the diocese of Washington, and contains one of two cathedras "thrones" of the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church. It is essentially loaned to the country. It however is and always will be an Episcopal Cathedral.
Considering they the types of speaker and programs they've been hosting, one wonders if they still think of themself as a Episcopal Cathederal and not a "House of [Buddist, Muslim, neo-spiritual, and whatever else suits your fancy] Prayer for All People [even those like Iranian leaders that actively oppress Christians]" Still, it is a nice building with a good choir, so I try to focus on the original intent of the building.
You make a good point. Keep in mind though, they are invited to *speak*, not conduct worship services. Non episcopal services require approval, and are i belive always in a chapel. I agree, it gives the appearance of being a bit schizophrenic, many in the diocese don't like it much. Still, the episcopal church has liked to think of itself as the so called bridge church, and is very ecumenical. To a point. You have to belong to the right country club.
Nice. You took a little time to get some nice shots and it shows. As it effects and projects through stained glass, winter light is always best. Winter light is redder, so it deepens the projected color and, because of the lower sun angle, everything projects higher on the walls. Come see my "Stained Light" video.
Well even if it does become dust and rubble it shows what dedicated men can do. If it is destroyed then they can build another even better.
