..". As one would expect his singing is effortlessly stylish and accomplished. Inevitably the impressively pinging nine top Cs of ‘Ah! mes amis…”, sung with an ease bordering on nonchalance, brought the house down. Far, far more remarkable was his soft honeyed singing and glorious legato of the second act. ‘Pour me rapprocher de Marie’ was listened to in rapt silence.”
I saw JDF sing Fille last night with Diana Damrau at the Met. (I also have the same production on DVD with Natalie Dessay from Covent Garden.) It was announced he was singing with a cold, but I wouldn't have known.
It was was announced? When? I could see JDF was under the weather, but he still sang beautifully - especially this lovely tender aria. He even nailed for the D flat. Man, what guts! Damrau was coughing some too. She was terrific, but I could not hear her very well in the trios, so maybe she was sick and it affected her middle voice more than her top? That's the first thing to go when I have a cold. They did not do the kiss at the end of the duet. Perhaps not to spread germs? :)
JDF makes me cry out. He's the best tenor possible today, al least in his repertoire (from Gluck to Donizetti). When I watch this performance (I have two Fille: Covent Garden & Genova) and I can't stop watching them! I was moved to tears.
i've become a poor soldier just to be near marie. i've risked my life for her, and in battle i would tell myself "if ever grandeur would make that angel look upon me again," then i'd have to die if i couldn't love her.
trembling, i've come to you madame, to claim my only love. if i know her, then she wants our love, too. when my heart surrenders to pure hope, her voice will convince you. i'd die if i couldn't love her! i'd die if i couldn't love her..
@DessayBestSinger Of these times, yes indeed, but listen to the video of Fritz Wunderlich singing "Ich baue ganz" posted by jacquesurlus to see my nominee for that title. (On the other hand, JDF wins hands down in the looks department!)
This is my favourite aria from La fille du regiment. He sings so wonderful from his feeling and his heart. It was this aria where I heard and saw him for the first time in TV from London. I couldn't believe what I heard and saw. I'm a great fan from him and have jast heard im in Cologne von 7.12.2007 in L'italiana in algeri. It was marvelous and got an autograph and a wonderful photo from me with him. In July I hear him in a concert in Mannheim.
OPERA LOVERS If you have the chance listen to the same aria in The Fille from Teatro Carlo Felice "Decca" the one in the dvd with Patricia Cioffi is absolutely amazing also!
Bravissimo Juan Diego Florez you are already a SUPERSTAR!
