Hollywood made out the US to be the best in WW2 but really they joined 2 years late after alot of very heavy fighting and the tide of war really changed when russia joined not the US... if Russia didnt get attacked the US wouldnt have a hollywood to make them feel better about missing 1/3 of the war.
In 1940 Canada had a population of 11,000,000. That's approximately the population of NYC and LA today. One country with a small population did so much to save the free world. "Canada is the linchpin of the English-speaking world." - Winston Churchill". Thank you; First Canadian Parachute Battalion, Royal Winnipeg Rifles, North Nova Scotia Highlanders and all others in the 3rd Div.
We don't get much credit for our efforts in World War II compared to Britian and the Americans.
We joined in right away after Britian declared war because we had strong ties to them. We fought from start to finish. The Americans waited 2 years, gaining profit from the war and only joined because they were attacked.
However, America is our closest ally and neighbour and we would be no match for them in military.
@kagomefan101 yeah thats what the US thought in 1812 aswell, figuring there population figures and contental army would overwelm our small number of militia. but it didnt work out that way... Canadians won every major land battle until the Brits showed up in 1814 with Napoleonic war vets and ending up losing a battle after burning the whitehouse.. if u read a US history book they shove off the invasion of Canada and only mention a few naval fights against our small cargo ships. Hilarious.
98vangard im not an expert on world war 2 or anything but i believe they use british weapons because at the time canada was still part of the british empire and commonwealth and so they shared weapons. Correct me if im wrong.
Canada= Strongest Small Military in our Solar System, aswel as equal to the U.S Military. Canada has the most support behind it's Military, as proven by the Hwy of Heros.
America= Most advanced Military, Strongest Military in the world, Equal to the Canadian Forces.
England= Second Strongest Military in the world, one of the Oldest in the world, and most Formal in the world.
These Country's hold together the Strongest force in the world, and Lord have mercy on who tries to fuck with them
Let's not get in over our heads. As efficient as it is, our military wouldn't stand a chance against the American military. Our army may have better training than theirs and they may be Canadian(which means more balls when it's cold out) but when it comes to equipment and numbers the American military would stomp us. Not like they ever will though. America's our closest ally for Christ's sake.
@Arc9er I never said that they wouldn't stomp us with their population and technology. I was stating that the Canadian, American, and English Alliance put together could conqure our world at least 20 times. Canada has better trained soldiers, America has some of the world's best equipment, and England has the most diciplined Officers
don't take this affensive but how come it looks like you had to use british weapons you didn't have any weapons of your own? Im not trying to be mean im just curious.
@Baboonaiih when you said "making" did you mean they were USING the few weapons that they had or that they were being made exactly during ww2 that they can only use british weapons?
@98vanguard After the Ross Rifle debacle we decided it was best to stick with the british weapons and don't forget we were and still are a British Commonwealth nation so it would make sense to use the same guns. Now we make a lot of our own weapons but even so their just modified versions of weapons and vehicles used by other countries. Politics tends to get involved to often when we try to make anything ourselves. Just search "The Avro Arrow" and you'll understand what I mean.
As usual, a video about Canada's accomplishments includes Americans spewing their anti-Canadian rhetoric.
As a Canadian, I can at least take pride in the fact that, when the war began, we got involved and we didn't sit on our fat asses waiting until we were attacked.
@sweiland75 America tried to do what we never did before and tried to stay out of a war for once, but when we were attacked we couldn't just sit there and act like it meant nothing we had to do something about it. Then hitler declared war on us while we declared war on japan for what they did but after that our government is getting involved again like in korea, vietnam, and now the middleeast but the middleast (terrorist) attacked us too, but we been there to long now.
People need to stop talking shit. If you can't respect the other person, just get out. Don't disrespect militaries. You wouldn't talk shit to a veteran now, would you? Canada was just smaller. So you can't just say, "LAWL YOU DID NOTHUNG." I bet if Canada was about the same as the US at the time, it would have done a lot more. Just saying. And also stop insulting America too. Be greatful that people have fought for our freedom.
why are people so stupid? You come here and bash countries and try to tell who won? nobody won! the war did so much destruction that in the end humanity lost.
And all countries fought together, it's not about america or canada. Europe would have been screwed without help of north america.
So stop acting like little retards and know that everybody helped everybody
Great vid. I heard if you are a Canadian and you go to the Netherlands, the people in the Netherlands will honor you for being Canadian. In the Netherlands it is their tradition to honor Canadians who visit.
I really like this video and I'm 100% canadian and I don't wish to be a history nazi (for give the pun) but on the Dieppe Raid that was a horrible moment in Canadian history and was mostly Canadians. You must remember that there was a group of British commandos also in the raid. For we must remember not just Canadians who fell to the wars that took so many but all who fought. So we never forget, so we do not repeat. Lest We Forget.
You think 350 Canadian deaths on Juno beach is alot? The Americans took 3000 on Omaha.
The British 700 on Sword beach.
Canada sacrificed little in the war. U.S, U.K were the ones who took lots of shots in the war. But Canada did help and lost a total 45,000 men. R.I.P All 62,396,670 men who fought.
@Crashbrow Yes the U.S and the U.K lost more people but remember Canada did not have the men that they did. Also look it up, the Canadians took the brunt of alot of attacks and most of the hardess battles and the toughest enemys. Juno was the most heavily defened and was armed by the S.S hitler youth one of the toughest germand divitions in the war. And Canada did not sacrifice little. And to say other wise is a disgrace to say such things. But I do agree all soldiers must be remember.
@PrairieMcFox The only reason the D day invasion was successfull was due to the americans and the 101st airborn who flew behind the beaches to secure key bridges and road ways. Canada did have their fair share of combat but americans made the most advances and actually took more "brunt" than the canadians and the british. EX battle of the buldge, Ardens forest, Utah beach, Carentane etc... The S.S were the toughest of the germans but the hitlar youth were nothing more than angery rich kids.
@Doubleplates Well you could say the same thing for the Russians they fought more Nazis and lost more men & women then any other army of the war all I'm trying to say is that Canada helped in some key things and people are all to fast to forget what they fought and died for.
@MrFreedomrequired What I said 2 months ago clearly has nothing anything to do with shooting a rifle, nor does it have anything to do with how they fought I was talking about the death tolls and Canada's contribution to the war. Btw what kind of stupid question is that.
Wow, some of the Yanks on this video are goddamn stupid (*cough cough* ShayisWY). If I showed my grandfather, a Juno Beach survivour your comments, how do you think he'd feel? Sad, sad that morons like you are doubting Canada's importance in the Second World War. Most Americans appreciate our role, but I guess not you. So go troll elsewhere, prick.
@Litterboxer529 I'm not saying Canada's role was meaningless......... Here are the facts of Juno Beach 1) Canadians were inbedded with the British 1vCorps under British Commander Crocker 2) Juno Beach did not fall under Canadian command until July 1944 3) Germans were ordered not to counterattack for 24 hours and therefore didn't face the full German defense 4) The area was mined with inferior German Teller mines, of which over 50% failed to detonate, making it easier for the Canadians to land
@Shayiswy1 WE were the ones that took that beach and advanced the furthest. NOT the Americans OR the British. We usually had the brunt of everything else. Dieppe, Hong Kong. The list goes on and on. You're a disgrace to the 40,000 Canadians that died.
@Litterboxer529 Haha actually historical facts such as the battle of the buldge and the Ardens forest Etc.. proves the americans actually made the most advances. The only reason canada advanced so far on D day was because they had little resistance. The british even passed canada in the advances son not the other way around. Yes canada did do her fare share but the facts say Canada went up the coast line while america went ino the brunt of the fight into europe. History speaks for itself.
@Doubleplates To be honest, it doesn't mean a thing when it comes to who took the brunt of fighting. It was a planned landing and I'm willing to bet that US commanders put US troops on those beaches just to get the credit anyway.
Fact remains that Canada was with the allies from the start. They could have avoided fighting altogether as they certainly weren't in any direct danger, but they didn't. The US needed half of their pacific fleet sunk to actually take part.
@Doubleplates Juno was the second most heavily defended beach (after Omaha). Your problem is you watch too much history channel and believe everything you see. I'll tell you a few secrets about WW2 that you won't get on the history channel... the US did NOT win the war alone, the USAF DID bomb cities, the USN refused advice from the RN and RCN and consequently lost many ships. I could go on, but won't since you will only tell me I must be wrong....you and the history channel can't be wrong.
@cf80to01 Key word son "second" most heavily defended beach, i actually dont watch history channel im a history teacher and therefore research is truth in it self. Speaking about truth the war would have been lost if it were not due to US involvement, Canadian and British forces combined could not and have not put the impact the US made during WW2. Yes the allies were fighting the war long before the US got involved but they were beaten time and time again. The US made more siginficant progress.
@Doubleplates My apology. You are obviously a genious. You aren't 21 yet, but you have finished University and are teaching. You are a wannabe who believes his limited knowledge of WW2 (provided by the History Channel) puts him in a position to discuss facts. How about you read a few books, THEN you try and discuss WW2 with the adults?
@Shayiswy1 they may have been under british command but what i mean the men themselves were all Canadian and had no foreign troop to help them. Oh who the hell do you think liberated Antwerp, Canadians. and Antwerp was one of the most heavily defended ports in holland and it was vital to get supplies to the other allied armies. So there Canadians actually got supplies to the U.S army.
@kkarst567 Actually the aformentioned Brit corps group were with the Canadians so again not by themselves. Furthermore Juno Beach was not really heavly defended as what was lead to believe. Antwerp was liberated by the British actually.
If Canadians did something there that was impossible for anyone else to do, I may conceed it was impressive, but they didn't
@Litterboxer529 You say I am idiot and imply I fabricated this and yet this is noted in Canadian military records what I say. Canadian Army Historical Section Report No. 50 "The Campaign in North-West Europe Information From German Sources Part II: Invasion and Battle of Normandy (6 Jun - 22 August 44)" Page M21
"German response to the landings was slow; mobile troops were not authorized to counter-attack the Canadian beaches until the next day"
omfg CANADA DIDNT DO SHIT LIKE BRITISH AND AMERICANS... RUSSIA DID EVERYTHING!! THEY KILLED oVER 80% OF HITLER ARMY!!!! RUSSIA SAVED THE WHOLD EUROPE!! CANADA JUST CAME AT THE END YOU FUCKING pUSSIES!! FUCK CANADA!!!!!
@eossful seriously your saying americans did more? did you know that in 1939 when british attacked germaney canada immediatly entered the war! it was not until 1941 that usa entered the war! 2 years later when america was attacked is when they decided to join! americans came 2 years late canadians where there from the beggining to the end! saying that we are pussies is just dumb read up on history dumb ass because we didnt come at the end of the war!
@eossful Interesting comment from a (supposed) Canadian. You scamper off and get that Communist Party of Canada card and Che Guevera T-shirt. Perhaps, if you have a chance, when not otherwise engaged, you might want to consider reading some military history. .инструмент
The Americans didn't do much in Europe, but they're the only thing that made Japan pull out. (unfortunately they used A-bombs to do so) with Japan out the Nazis were left knowing that the US would then turn to them. And the Nazis had seen what happened to the Japanese cities after the US dropped the A-bomb on them.
But you were correct when you said that Russia did a HUGE amount of the "work."

@jamesent123 WWII would have been lost by the allies if the US did enter the war. There is literally not a single credible historian on the face of the planet that actually thinks the US role was minor.
People say the US joined in WWII at the end... the US actually joined before the Soviets did. And the US participation is what CAUSED the war to end in victory for the allies. Canada did precisely jackshit in that war. Canadians lost every battle they fought alone.
@ShayisWY actually i must correct you there the soviets joined june 22nd while the U.S joined in December 7th of 1941. Also before you guys joined Canada was England's biggest importer of goods. we created the convoys and we were the farthest to push in land on D-day (10 miles) and was the only allied country to complete all it's D-day objectives. we had the second heavily defended beach (Juno). We also did this all alone. So we also took the town of Ortona in Italy single handily.
@kkarst567 Actually Canadians did not contribute as much as the American in terms of aid to the UK. US aid under lend lease alone was approaching 40 billion and dwarfed anything from Canada. And this is just one program out of others and certainly does not include post war aid to GB - This is something you completely fabricated. Infact at one point 90% of US airplane production was devoted to GB at some points. They were charged at most only 10% of production cost, if not for free,.
@kkarst567 Canadians could not serve by themselves in Juno Beach and were serving under British I Corps under Crocker. Juno Beach did not fall under Canadian command until July 1944 - Well after the fact. It was a heavly defended area, but Germany's response to Juno Beach was almost non existent compared to other landing areas. German troops were not authorized to counter-attack the Canadians for 24 hours, while obviously some did. Nonetheless the full defenses of the Germans were not utilized.
@kkarst5 and as such Canadians only faced only part of the full German defenses at Juno Beach. As for Holland and your lie that Canada liberated every square of inch of land with no allied help. This is based on so much BS I don't even know where to begin to refute this. Simply put, Canada liberateed a portion of Holland, which happened to be the last portion, but it was in no way shape or form the most heavily fortified portion.. Nonethless a good achievment, but did not liberate all of Holland
@kkarst567 Russian Army was starving with little supplies until the US literally came along and baliled them out and at which point did they start making advances against the Germans - Thanks to the US.
Here is a tiny sample of what Russia received from the US:
Trucks 375,883
Aircraft 14,795
Locomotives 1,981
Telephone Cable 1,050,000 miles
UK received far more from the US than Russia received - Almost all of it given free of charge
@kkarst567 Not to mention again Russian troops were virtually starving, but thanks to the US, they didn't. Hence that famous quote "SPAM saves Russia" - Nikita Khrushchev in the book, Krushchev Remembers.
Russian historian Alexander Orlov notes US aid received during 1941 and 1942 amounted up to 90% of what some front line units of the Red Army had.

@jamesent123 The US provided the allies with the vast majority of their war material completely free of charge, and the allies were LOSING before US aid arrived. The British lost mainland Europe to the Germans, FAILED at reclaiming it at the Dieppe Raid (in which Canadians were used as cannon fodder). The US fought in every theater of war and regularly succeeded where the British failed. The US did way, way more than the western allies in Africa, Italy, the Med, and Western Europe.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@jamesent123 The Brits with Canada lost almost every major ground war against the Germans before the US entered, and also lost utterly against the Japanese. ANZAC and UK troops were almost nonexistent - The US fought the Japanese almost single-handedly while doing WAY more than the Brits to liberate Europe.
God bless the Canadian troops, past, present, and all the other Allied soldiers. You will never be forgotten for your bravery and heroism. Lest We Forget.
@akropiss There were not 12,000 Canadians at Hong Kong. There were 1,975... a Battalion each of Winnipeg Grenadiers and Royal Rifles of Canada and a Brigade Headquarters.
I want to personally thank Canadian troops who fought side by side with China to defend Hong Kong in WW2 even though defeat was inevitable.Thank you Canada for never giving up on Hong Kong!
We even have a memorial for those troops who died.Gone but not forgotten.Thank you again from Hong Kong
@xGeneralGrievousx ya right americans would make the canadainas go first into heavily gaurded positions and got destryod then the amaricans would just walk throught that just meant they wer pussies and have to get some one else to do the hard stuff
@bardown8: Please, give me your information/proof sites concerning your statement to xGeneralGrievousx as follows: ya right americans would make the canadainas go first into heavily gaurded positions and got destryod then the amaricans would just walk throught that just meant they wer pussies and have to get some one else to do the hard stuff
bardown8 11 months ago --- I thank you in advance.
you must have missed the beginning of ww2, when canada fought beside britian and australia against the nazis alone, without cowardly americas help, even tho canada was more then 10x smaller then america, we created a navy more then half the size of americas. of course america did alot more then canada in the european invasion, but again, america was much larger and older... and canada deffently helped, just not as much as usa, britian or russia. so stfu and dont make stupid posts
@ShadowViper19 at the end of ww2, once the german and japanese navys wer destroyed, canadas navy was only smaller then russias, and americas.. and canada had only 12 million people at this time, making it one of the smallest countrys in the world, but still one of the strongest...
@ShadowViper19 yeah, canada kicked ass back in the day... and in ww2, we also had the largest volenteer millitary in the world....... our millitary right now is 15x smaller then it was in 1945... but there is no evil nazi empire to fight, so it kinda makes sence to not have a big millitary no more....
@xGeneralGrievousx FUCK OFF COCKSUCKER U AND CANADA R SUPPOSED TO BE FUCKING ALLIES FUCK WAT THE FUCK CANT U FUCKING AMERICANS UNDERSTAND YOUR ALL JUST LAZY SONS OF BITCH'S YOUR JUST SO FUCKING WRAP UP IN OH AMERICAS THE BEST AND WERE WAR HEROES NOT CANADA WELL FUCK YOU WHORE...WHY CANT U JUST SAY CANADA WAS ALSO WAR HEROES NO BUT YOUR JUST A FAT FUCK AMERICAN
@ShadowViper19 Great usage of caps buddy. I kno very well that the Canadians actually did do something, i just wanted to say wat i said to get reactions(like yours) becuz ya kno why, THEY'RE SO FREAKIN FUNNY. But ill tell you wats true, the day you guys get invaded by anyone, you'll all be crying to us for help. Cuz you kno why, cuz your our hat. God Bless the Internet & God Bless America. LAND OF THE FREE, HOME OF THE WHOPPER :)
@ShadowViper19 Dude, why are u bringing up Justin Bieber, we're talking about WW2, not Canadian pop stars. Keep your head on track. BTW he loves it in America, ya kno w/ the girls actually looking like girls.
Interesting, though some factual errors, such as most Canadians flew Hurricanes (not Spitfires). The Hurricane was the real workhorse of the Battle of Britain but the Spitfire got all the glory. Also there were Brits and Americans at Dieppe, though it was primarily a Canadian op.
the soviet union sucked. there was 1 gun or every 3 soldiers. they were getting there asses kicked untill the allies aided. btw canadian and english helmets looked retarded back then.
At the end of the war in germany a Canadian tank crew didnt fancy maintaining and cleaning there tank ready to be taken back home so they buried it in some Germans garden and simply said it had been blown up. It was discovered 50 years later still with all its ammo and fuel on board. Thats the Canadians way of saying we will get home a lot quicker without it . They did there bit and a lot more.
for any Americans that think that Canada didn't fight in the pacific war, we did, we fought before the US was attacked by japan and after Germany was defeated. our last fatality was in the Japanese theatre, on the day Nagasaki was nuked. we had a soldier win the Victoria cross in 1939 in China defending an island. now think about this, Canada not being in WW2 would have meant defeat or many years extra of fighting. Canada captured Sicily and that was where the Italian war started. So ponder this
I strongly beleive that Canada performed extremely well in both WW1 and WW2 and if they were as big as the USA world war 2 would have been won a lot faster.
@Number7smokesForEver americans tend to forget the things that make their country look cowardly, like the FACT that canada joined both world wars before america, despite having a fraction of the armed forces USA possessed... and the FACT that canadians often outperformed american and british forces, even with less support and logicstics, even to this day, in afghanistan, canadians continue to dominate americans when it comes to war games and performance testings... USA is a joke, GO CANADA
@jayblaze12 Russia was hitlers biggest mistake No war is ever won being attacked on 3 sides worse yet they attacked with a russian winter coming and Germany didn't see it ..( engines frozen (planes, cars tanks trucks) food was short ammo troops died by cold moral was low..all these factors plus russias fighting force turned them back Russia never had a air power worth talking about Which this war made or breaked you Stailin relized this after losing many battles too109's and stukasWinterchanged
why do people argue like fucking idiots about who did more?
Americans, British and Canadians are all heroes.
Cant we all just respect them all for protecting our freedoms?
Christ seems everyones little fucking 8 year olds that flip out saying that their country is better than the allies that help them and the allied troops from other nations that died to help them, show some respect.
How about the soviet union did more then all 3 countries combined and destoryed more germans then these 3 combined and most sacrafices then these 3 combined
@fighteroffortune Without the the Dieppe raid D-Day would've been a disaster. Without America the allies wouldn't have had the manpower to pull of D-Day. And if the British hadn't toughed out the Blitz than the allies couldn't have had a place to launch D-Day from.
@fighteroffortune exactly....people need to stop arguing over who's country did the most in the war, every little effort added up. We were all in this together. And like bladeere14 said, it's not like any of us fought, so all we can do is honour those who did. All of them, down to every guerrilla warrior. God bless.
I wish someone would respect my country Canada for once. I like USA its just that USA is killing ALL our men and one day im going in war to give my children freedom for my country.
i hate how the americans took all the crebit for world war 2 and strong countries like Canada and Australia get lefted in the dust and yet Canada was the first in roman the top beach on d day and the Germans respected Canada Australia and Britain they didn't say anything about the states
Who came under more heavy fire when landing on the beaches of Normandy? U.S. Soldiers on the beaches came upon such massive fire, that orders were almost given to withdraw, but the Commanders said we don't withdraw a goddamn inch and kept sending in U.S. troops.
we got 6603 Americans killed within the first couple of Hours.
Great Britain had 2700
and Canada: roughly 500 something
(I'm not saying U.K. or Canada didn't do their part, THEY DID, it just that U.S. had much more resistant)
are u kidding me, juno beach's sea wall was twice the size of omaha's and we had less troops then u yet we still capture our objectives and push more inland then any other allied force on d day
The reason America had the two toughest beaches to storm is because it was their turn to be slaughtered. Do a little bit of research about what went on in Dieppe and you'll understand everything to do with D-Day.
The Canadians and Brits were in WW2 from day one, we sacrificed hundreds of thousands of souls before America even joined the war.
so true.... in 1945.... canada had the 3rd largest navy in the world... and 4th largest airforce.... we have scaled back sence 1945 but our millitary is still world class.... we often out performed british and american soldiers in ww1 and ww2... with half the support and logistics.. also with both america and canada being original british colonies, canada joined right at the beginning of both wars to back up britian, while america sat back for as long as it could with a armed forces 10x our size
This isnt my account my account is bambuzledm but We (Canada) also had to face the 33rd panzer divison or was it a SS divison but uhh yea they were tough. I salute who died during the war
@naktex21 dont worry dude, all the Hollywod movies are american propoganda, its not that they dont know about the russians but america is building up a big ego, thats all. And canada was a very small country during ww2, even in ww2 canada only had enough troops to put 1 core togethere.
ww1 had more military casuality. It also included more countries on wider fronts. If you remove the ppl taht died in concentrations camps ww2 death toll is quite lower.
Even if you subtract the Holocaust deaths from the total number of dead during the war, WWII was still significantly bloodier.Around 16 million were killed during the first war, over 50 million (not including the Holocaust) from over 40 nations and territories during the second
I Just Finished Reading a couple of articles and they all matched that we were pretty scary when we came charging at the Germans with Bayonets! Problem was it didn't scare the Japanese! Yes I will admit that the Japanese are pretty scary but I think it was mainly the Tactics they used but that's my opinion!
That was the Japs favorite way to do battle, thats why it didn't effect them so much. A good old fashion melee fight that they had thousands of years worth of perfected tactics for.
America was off other places so at dieppe they didn't have alot of troops, it was a CANADIAN operation so there weren't alot of americans. but canada didn't succeed because no one knew how to land right ( shelling, air support, and infantry combined) but after that everyone knew how, so i say dieppe was a succes and Canada tried and did pretty damn good. lay off the americans they contributed majorly to the war. BTW this vids about our pride in our boys not hate of others.
Thanks for pointing out the value of Dieppe as the building block from which the Normandy invasion was carried out. The things learned @ Dieppe saved many many lives @ D-Day. Read Barry Broadfoot's book: "Six War Years-Memories of Canadians at home and abroad." Although written in the '70's, it is still a great narrative of one of WW2's deadliest armies, & the stunning accomplishments of a nation of only 11 million people. IMO, Canada's finest hour.
Well we still would have won the war if Dieppe hadn't happened but D-Day would have been a disaster and cost thousands of lives and set operation overlord back at least one or two months.
Exactly! However Germanys losses were substantial. If they war on the eastern front had've been won been blitzkrieg then Germany might have won the war. Fighting on two fronts is a very bad tactical situation. A western front would've been opened eventually and the war would've been won but at the cost of tens of thousands more lives. Dieppe was a learning block that allowed the D-Day landings to be a succsess
Churchill suggested that the Allies should attack the "weak underbelly of the Axis", or the Northern African Front. The Allies successfully invaded and captured Africa and Italy. Now that Hitlers forces were spread out, Overlord was now an option. You see if Dieppe never happened the Overlord invasion would have been a huge disaster, because as they say, military intelligence is just as important as brute force.
Winston Churchill did want to attack Germnay heading through Italy but the U.S wanted a Normandy landing. The same lesson learned at Dieppe would've been learned at D-Day but at a heavier cost and probably would've failed. Dieppe was invaluable to the Allies, I'm just saying that I think Germany would've eventually lost. Undeniably the world would be a different place, tens maybe hundreds of thousands more would've died before Victory was acheived if D-Day had failed.
Other involvement in Africa, Italy, and Eastern front by other allies pulled thouasands of troops and supplies from the Russian front making it possible for them to win.
Hollywood made out the US to be the best in WW2 but really they joined 2 years late after alot of very heavy fighting and the tide of war really changed when russia joined not the US... if Russia didnt get attacked the US wouldnt have a hollywood to make them feel better about missing 1/3 of the war.

don't take this affensive but how come it looks like you had to use british weapons you didn't have any weapons of your own? Im not trying to be mean im just curious.
98vanguard 4 months ago
@98vanguard Because Canada only was making a few guns at the time and Britain was their biggest supplier of military equipment.
Baboonaiih 2 months ago
@Baboonaiih when you said "making" did you mean they were USING the few weapons that they had or that they were being made exactly during ww2 that they can only use british weapons?
98vanguard 2 months ago
@98vanguard Canada was making some guns themselves but other than that they would use guns from other countries.
Baboonaiih 2 months ago
@98vanguard After the Ross Rifle debacle we decided it was best to stick with the british weapons and don't forget we were and still are a British Commonwealth nation so it would make sense to use the same guns. Now we make a lot of our own weapons but even so their just modified versions of weapons and vehicles used by other countries. Politics tends to get involved to often when we try to make anything ourselves. Just search "The Avro Arrow" and you'll understand what I mean.

@98vanguard Cause our Ross rifle was horrible and the brits made much more reliable weapons.

As usual, a video about Canada's accomplishments includes Americans spewing their anti-Canadian rhetoric.
As a Canadian, I can at least take pride in the fact that, when the war began, we got involved and we didn't sit on our fat asses waiting until we were attacked.
sweiland75 4 months ago
@sweiland75 America tried to do what we never did before and tried to stay out of a war for once, but when we were attacked we couldn't just sit there and act like it meant nothing we had to do something about it. Then hitler declared war on us while we declared war on japan for what they did but after that our government is getting involved again like in korea, vietnam, and now the middleeast but the middleast (terrorist) attacked us too, but we been there to long now.

PrairieMcFox 11 months ago
You think 350 Canadian deaths on Juno beach is alot? The Americans took 3000 on Omaha.
The British 700 on Sword beach.
Canada sacrificed little in the war. U.S, U.K were the ones who took lots of shots in the war. But Canada did help and lost a total 45,000 men. R.I.P All 62,396,670 men who fought.
Crashbrow 11 months ago
@Crashbrow Yes the U.S and the U.K lost more people but remember Canada did not have the men that they did. Also look it up, the Canadians took the brunt of alot of attacks and most of the hardess battles and the toughest enemys. Juno was the most heavily defened and was armed by the S.S hitler youth one of the toughest germand divitions in the war. And Canada did not sacrifice little. And to say other wise is a disgrace to say such things. But I do agree all soldiers must be remember.
PrairieMcFox 11 months ago
@PrairieMcFox Amazing how they busted through the most heavily defended beach defense and take only 350 casualties...
Crashbrow 11 months ago
@PrairieMcFox The only reason the D day invasion was successfull was due to the americans and the 101st airborn who flew behind the beaches to secure key bridges and road ways. Canada did have their fair share of combat but americans made the most advances and actually took more "brunt" than the canadians and the british. EX battle of the buldge, Ardens forest, Utah beach, Carentane etc... The S.S were the toughest of the germans but the hitlar youth were nothing more than angery rich kids.
Doubleplates 11 months ago
@Doubleplates Well you could say the same thing for the Russians they fought more Nazis and lost more men & women then any other army of the war all I'm trying to say is that Canada helped in some key things and people are all to fast to forget what they fought and died for.
PrairieMcFox 11 months ago
@Crashbrow Its not about the deaths iots about how they fought! do you kn ow how to shoot a rifle responsibly ? Just a question!
MrFreedomrequired 9 months ago
@MrFreedomrequired What I said 2 months ago clearly has nothing anything to do with shooting a rifle, nor does it have anything to do with how they fought I was talking about the death tolls and Canada's contribution to the war. Btw what kind of stupid question is that.
Crashbrow 9 months ago
Wow, some of the Yanks on this video are goddamn stupid (*cough cough* ShayisWY). If I showed my grandfather, a Juno Beach survivour your comments, how do you think he'd feel? Sad, sad that morons like you are doubting Canada's importance in the Second World War. Most Americans appreciate our role, but I guess not you. So go troll elsewhere, prick.
Litterboxer529 1 year ago
@Litterboxer529 I'm not saying Canada's role was meaningless......... Here are the facts of Juno Beach 1) Canadians were inbedded with the British 1vCorps under British Commander Crocker 2) Juno Beach did not fall under Canadian command until July 1944 3) Germans were ordered not to counterattack for 24 hours and therefore didn't face the full German defense 4) The area was mined with inferior German Teller mines, of which over 50% failed to detonate, making it easier for the Canadians to land
Shayiswy1 1 year ago
@Shayiswy1 WE were the ones that took that beach and advanced the furthest. NOT the Americans OR the British. We usually had the brunt of everything else. Dieppe, Hong Kong. The list goes on and on. You're a disgrace to the 40,000 Canadians that died.
Litterboxer529 1 year ago
@Litterboxer529 Haha actually historical facts such as the battle of the buldge and the Ardens forest Etc.. proves the americans actually made the most advances. The only reason canada advanced so far on D day was because they had little resistance. The british even passed canada in the advances son not the other way around. Yes canada did do her fare share but the facts say Canada went up the coast line while america went ino the brunt of the fight into europe. History speaks for itself.
Doubleplates 11 months ago
@Doubleplates To be honest, it doesn't mean a thing when it comes to who took the brunt of fighting. It was a planned landing and I'm willing to bet that US commanders put US troops on those beaches just to get the credit anyway.
Fact remains that Canada was with the allies from the start. They could have avoided fighting altogether as they certainly weren't in any direct danger, but they didn't. The US needed half of their pacific fleet sunk to actually take part.
nicck 11 months ago
@Doubleplates Juno was the second most heavily defended beach (after Omaha). Your problem is you watch too much history channel and believe everything you see. I'll tell you a few secrets about WW2 that you won't get on the history channel... the US did NOT win the war alone, the USAF DID bomb cities, the USN refused advice from the RN and RCN and consequently lost many ships. I could go on, but won't since you will only tell me I must be wrong....you and the history channel can't be wrong.
cf80to01 9 months ago
@cf80to01 Key word son "second" most heavily defended beach, i actually dont watch history channel im a history teacher and therefore research is truth in it self. Speaking about truth the war would have been lost if it were not due to US involvement, Canadian and British forces combined could not and have not put the impact the US made during WW2. Yes the allies were fighting the war long before the US got involved but they were beaten time and time again. The US made more siginficant progress.
Doubleplates 9 months ago
@Doubleplates My apology. You are obviously a genious. You aren't 21 yet, but you have finished University and are teaching. You are a wannabe who believes his limited knowledge of WW2 (provided by the History Channel) puts him in a position to discuss facts. How about you read a few books, THEN you try and discuss WW2 with the adults?
cf80to01 9 months ago
@Shayiswy1 they may have been under british command but what i mean the men themselves were all Canadian and had no foreign troop to help them. Oh who the hell do you think liberated Antwerp, Canadians. and Antwerp was one of the most heavily defended ports in holland and it was vital to get supplies to the other allied armies. So there Canadians actually got supplies to the U.S army.
kkarst567 1 year ago
@kkarst567 Actually the aformentioned Brit corps group were with the Canadians so again not by themselves. Furthermore Juno Beach was not really heavly defended as what was lead to believe. Antwerp was liberated by the British actually.
If Canadians did something there that was impossible for anyone else to do, I may conceed it was impressive, but they didn't

ShayisWY 1 year ago
@ShayisWY actually i must correct you there the soviets joined june 22nd while the U.S joined in December 7th of 1941. Also before you guys joined Canada was England's biggest importer of goods. we created the convoys and we were the farthest to push in land on D-day (10 miles) and was the only allied country to complete all it's D-day objectives. we had the second heavily defended beach (Juno). We also did this all alone. So we also took the town of Ortona in Italy single handily.
kkarst567 1 year ago
@kkarst567 Actually Canadians did not contribute as much as the American in terms of aid to the UK. US aid under lend lease alone was approaching 40 billion and dwarfed anything from Canada. And this is just one program out of others and certainly does not include post war aid to GB - This is something you completely fabricated. Infact at one point 90% of US airplane production was devoted to GB at some points. They were charged at most only 10% of production cost, if not for free,.
Shayiswy1 1 year ago
@kkarst567 Canadians could not serve by themselves in Juno Beach and were serving under British I Corps under Crocker. Juno Beach did not fall under Canadian command until July 1944 - Well after the fact. It was a heavly defended area, but Germany's response to Juno Beach was almost non existent compared to other landing areas. German troops were not authorized to counter-attack the Canadians for 24 hours, while obviously some did. Nonetheless the full defenses of the Germans were not utilized.
Shayiswy1 1 year ago
@kkarst5 and as such Canadians only faced only part of the full German defenses at Juno Beach. As for Holland and your lie that Canada liberated every square of inch of land with no allied help. This is based on so much BS I don't even know where to begin to refute this. Simply put, Canada liberateed a portion of Holland, which happened to be the last portion, but it was in no way shape or form the most heavily fortified portion.. Nonethless a good achievment, but did not liberate all of Holland
Shayiswy1 1 year ago
@ShayisWY we also took Holland all by ourselves. So please read some Canadian history before you bash over 40 000 men who died.
kkarst567 1 year ago
@ShayisWY also the Russians took Berlin and defeated the Germans not the U.S
kkarst567 1 year ago
@kkarst567 Russian Army was starving with little supplies until the US literally came along and baliled them out and at which point did they start making advances against the Germans - Thanks to the US.
Here is a tiny sample of what Russia received from the US:
Trucks 375,883
Aircraft 14,795
Locomotives 1,981
Telephone Cable 1,050,000 miles
UK received far more from the US than Russia received - Almost all of it given free of charge
Shayiswy1 1 year ago
@kkarst567 Not to mention again Russian troops were virtually starving, but thanks to the US, they didn't. Hence that famous quote "SPAM saves Russia" - Nikita Khrushchev in the book, Krushchev Remembers.
Russian historian Alexander Orlov notes US aid received during 1941 and 1942 amounted up to 90% of what some front line units of the Red Army had.
Not a bad deal I'd say
Shayiswy1 1 year ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
@jamesent123 The US provided the allies with the vast majority of their war material completely free of charge, and the allies were LOSING before US aid arrived.
ShayisWY 1 year ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
@jamesent123 The Brits with Canada lost almost every major ground war against the Germans before the US entered, and also lost utterly against the Japanese. ANZAC and UK troops were almost nonexistent - The US fought the Japanese almost single-handedly while doing WAY more than the Brits to liberate Europe.

for any Americans that think that Canada didn't fight in the pacific war, we did, we fought before the US was attacked by japan and after Germany was defeated. our last fatality was in the Japanese theatre, on the day Nagasaki was nuked. we had a soldier win the Victoria cross in 1939 in China defending an island. now think about this, Canada not being in WW2 would have meant defeat or many years extra of fighting. Canada captured Sicily and that was where the Italian war started. So ponder this

By the end of the day they were further in land than any other Allied invading force, and only 335 Canadians died (more were injured).
People like to joke about the Canadian military, but they have a pretty impressive history.
They're much smaller now then they were in the past, though that is a conscious decision. But they've always had exceptional training.

so true.... in 1945.... canada had the 3rd largest navy in the world... and 4th largest airforce.... we have scaled back sence 1945 but our millitary is still world class.... we often out performed british and american soldiers in ww1 and ww2... with half the support and logistics.. also with both america and canada being original british colonies, canada joined right at the beginning of both wars to back up britian, while america sat back for as long as it could with a armed forces 10x our size

naktex21 1 year ago
@naktex21 dont worry dude, all the Hollywod movies are american propoganda, its not that they dont know about the russians but america is building up a big ego, thats all. And canada was a very small country during ww2, even in ww2 canada only had enough troops to put 1 core togethere.
WeShower 1 year ago
@WeShower i meant to put in ww1 they had 1 core not ww2.

Biggest war in human history is ww1 by the way.
GeorgesVI 2 years ago
ummmm.... i dont think so. ww1 was huge, but ww2 was mondo-huge. it had double the casualties.
OAJProductions 2 years ago
ww1 had more military casuality. It also included more countries on wider fronts. If you remove the ppl taht died in concentrations camps ww2 death toll is quite lower.
GeorgesVI 2 years ago
Even if you subtract the Holocaust deaths from the total number of dead during the war, WWII was still significantly bloodier.Around 16 million were killed during the first war, over 50 million (not including the Holocaust) from over 40 nations and territories during the second
beantown4776 2 years ago
that's a lie, pls stop it
GeorgesVI 2 years ago
Check your history again.
It not WWI, its WWII
50 MILLION people were killed in WWII.
About over 8 million something people died in WWI.

I Just Finished Reading a couple of articles and they all matched that we were pretty scary when we came charging at the Germans with Bayonets! Problem was it didn't scare the Japanese! Yes I will admit that the Japanese are pretty scary but I think it was mainly the Tactics they used but that's my opinion!
chrisvscrispychicken 2 years ago

IMO, Canada's finest hour.
matapan50 2 years ago
The Dieppe raid is what made D-Day a success. Without those Canadian troops, I don't know what the world would be today.
VindictivePhilosophy 2 years ago
Well we still would have won the war if Dieppe hadn't happened but D-Day would have been a disaster and cost thousands of lives and set operation overlord back at least one or two months.
paladin12122 2 years ago
Dieppe was an insight to the future. If Overlord failed then the 2 fronts in Europe would not have formed properly.
VindictivePhilosophy 2 years ago
Exactly! However Germanys losses were substantial. If they war on the eastern front had've been won been blitzkrieg then Germany might have won the war. Fighting on two fronts is a very bad tactical situation. A western front would've been opened eventually and the war would've been won but at the cost of tens of thousands more lives. Dieppe was a learning block that allowed the D-Day landings to be a succsess
paladin12122 2 years ago
Churchill suggested that the Allies should attack the "weak underbelly of the Axis", or the Northern African Front. The Allies successfully invaded and captured Africa and Italy. Now that Hitlers forces were spread out, Overlord was now an option. You see if Dieppe never happened the Overlord invasion would have been a huge disaster, because as they say, military intelligence is just as important as brute force.
VindictivePhilosophy 2 years ago
Winston Churchill did want to attack Germnay heading through Italy but the U.S wanted a Normandy landing. The same lesson learned at Dieppe would've been learned at D-Day but at a heavier cost and probably would've failed. Dieppe was invaluable to the Allies, I'm just saying that I think Germany would've eventually lost. Undeniably the world would be a different place, tens maybe hundreds of thousands more would've died before Victory was acheived if D-Day had failed.
paladin12122 2 years ago
If it wasn't for the D-Day landings and Hitlers Paranoia, Germany would've won.
VindictivePhilosophy 2 years ago
If it wasnt for the Soviet union you all would of lost

And vice versa my dear friend.

Other involvement in Africa, Italy, and Eastern front by other allies pulled thouasands of troops and supplies from the Russian front making it possible for them to win.
