  • as soon as 1:20 i was hooked! I have a soft spot for V10's!

  • Use as a transaxle porsche??

  • how much was that v10?

  • V10 is a great choise. How do you think a well built n/a 4 rotor wankel would do in an Ultima?

  • the engine is from audi, but it very similar to the gallardo engine, the audi engine is the better choice because it does not have the extra driveschaft through the sump for the front wheel drive.

My engine was an Audi test engine that had only run for a couple of hours on a test bench...

  • Where does on go about getting a Gallardo engine? I would imagine that is extremely difficult and expensive to find, considering how rare Gallardos and R8's are and even more rare for one of them to be wrecked.

  • Dyno sounds like shit.

  • Heb je side even gelezen. Als je maar gedisciplineerd bouwt aan je droom, zie je hier wat je kunt bereiken. Geweldig!!!

Dapper ook om een high-spec V-10 in te bouwen. Velen (priet)praten alleen maar, een enkeling doet het ook. Hulde!!!

  • Impressive, but what the hell is that buzzing noise? Is that coming from the dyno or the car? It's more annoying than the worse fart can I've ever heard.

  • i see you have installed misqito exhuast

  • @bradykhuber Lmfao hahahaha!

  • But i won't complain on the VAG v10.. awsome engines, with huge potensial...

Tho.. a JUDD EV5 would be truly awsome in that car...

  • i think if the tire where a little wider it would help out quit a bit. light cars tend to be tricky at low speeds since there is so little weight on the tires. also wouldn't it make it more stable?

  • the v10 sounds pretty good but with an ls series v8 you could have had more space for cooling and you good have built it slightly for more hp. im not trying to be a dick but you could have had more for less

  • Why does your dyno only read to 500hp?

  • Just to throw my two cents in way late on the argument of the Volvo engine vs a ls v8, a ls1 weighs almost the same as some Nissan iron block 4 cal engines, how in gods name is an iron block inline 5 going to weigh a supposed 230 lbs. Don't get me wrong, I like small turbo engines but they usually don't have the same torque curve as a v8 without serious knowledge and work. The v8 will always be faster at the same HP level because of this.

  • @jilo860 Volvo's own inline 5 is all alloy ;) the newer ones (2002 onwards) featuring dual VVT... and with that follows an almost flat torque curve...

The main torque curve on any engine can be altered by cam timing and setting, and "shifted" by exhaust tuning. Intake runner tuning mostly amplifies the main torque curve. But you can alter that by modifying port area and such. But yes if a setup i simmilar for two engines and one beeing twice the displacement, that one vil win.

  • @flyfaen1 The only problem with your Volvo suggestion is the amount of boost required to achieve the horsepower. Not to mention the turbo lag. Although an Inline 5 turbo would be totally sweet. I wonder if anyone could somehow put together two B52 High Pressure Turbo engines to make a V10. Sounds like a lot of work though. I'd like to see the XC90's Yamaha V8 4.4 liter with twin turbo's in this car!

  • @ReticentIndignation Yeah the Yamaha/Volvo 8 would be nice :) But I stand with my choice of the inline 5 :p If we rev limit it to 8000rpm we need 443Nm to develop 500hp. For that we would need approx one atm of boost (1 Bar/14.7PSI) if the engine is properly buildt. :) And a properly supercharger (neighter root's or centrifugal) ieg a Lysholm would giv those 443Nm across the rev range. Tho t VAG V10 will work fine for theese guys :)

  • y fink dis is bmw m5 new one, engine v10:)

  • Why are there so many (sorry to say but...) idiots here jabbing about 500CID big heavy american V'8 with the newest of STONEAGE technology? Somebody has missed the racing car class...

But... there could be lighter and cheaper alteratives from Europe also. If the Audi V10 weighs around 400lbs (200ish kg) its quite heavy. And since 5 cylinders and 10 almost have the same song, a turbocharged Volvo 2,3 20v 5 cylinder weighing 230lbs (about 110 kg) would be a nice alternative. easy to get 500+hp :)

  • WOW you are way off in your guess at the weights of these engines. All that tech adds weight. And Cheaper? Right. The ls3 & ls7 (6.2-7.0) use the same block the ls7 has been bored out to a smaller gap. Meaning? even though it's "bigger" the 7.0 may actually be lighter than the smaller 6.2. Also, the chevy small block is one of the lightest v8s on the market-including the M3. So do 4 cylinders and v8s almost have the "same song"? Also to get 500hp from that 2.5 would mean big boost and cash.

  • @gotmatt2 to achive 500hp form a 20v 5 cylinder 2.3 liter Volvo engine doesn't cost much at all, and big boost? You would need less than 12psi (0,8 bar) on a high rpm setup, to achieve those 500hp. 5 and 10 cyl's have quite a similar note, inline 4's and v8 with dualplane cranks doesn't. (tho i4's and flatplane v8's sound a bit similar). Anyways a 5 cyl. Volvo engine would be lighter than a modern american V8, and alot cheaper than the Audi V10 :)

  • "high RPM" costs a lot, especially the rpm you'd need to make that much power out of a 2.3 with that level of boost. You start factoring in valve train, cams and ecu remap, etc. to take advantage of the higher RPM and that adds up quick. The Evolve s40r only makes 425hp from the 2.5 with an upgraded turbo and more boost. The V70 T5 made half that amount with more boost from a 2.3 and the V70R makes 300hp from a 2.5 & 15psi. Don't forget turbos, intercoolers and such add weight

  • @gotmatt2 Nope... new rods, and some lightening of the crank is all that is needed in the shortblock. You would need a little bit larger intake valves, some matchporting of seats to port and such, deleting factory glitches , new stiffer springs and mechanical lifterbuckets. The rest lies in new camshafts and choise of turbocharger. VEMS aftermarket ECU is a good and cheap choise.

Cheaper than a Stock audi V10... atleast in my country. And still lighter than an American V8 ;)

  • So you're admitting to needing a new turbo now? And like I said a new cam shaft with profiles to take advantage of the high rpm, and you're adding porting, valves, springs and lifters(valve train work I was referring to). Some crank lightening-which will either require a new crank or a machine shop. Plus the after market ECU. A 485 HP ls3 is around 6k. A stock audi v10 is expensive, I'm referring to the price of the corvette engine. Do think the video you have up sounds good although.

  • @gotmatt2 I've never mentioned a stock turbo in any comment :p Maybe in the US the LS3 is cheaper, but here where I live (Norway) the 500hp Volvo 2,3 20v would be cheaper ;) Probably in the Netherlands too. You could lighten the stock crank of these Volvo engines allot! (I know because I Have two of these Volvo modular engines myself ^^ ). Which Video? The lazy Volvo 740 you're refering to? Only 140hp (60hp/litre) NA in that one. (daily driver) xD

  • melin 850 turbo i believe is the video i was talking about. Personally I've always like the volvo and wondered why the japanese cars get to have all to small displacement after market (sti, evo). Yeah most cranks haven't been knife edged etc to make them lighter because factor cars are built to very high standards as far as safety and reliability. It's impossible even to find good stuff for volvos online for me. Sad because a newer s40 t5 AWD with some more power would be fun.

  • @gotmatt2 Ah... well that one ain't mine :p Just a Video i fav'ed (because of the awesome sound) Ain't much original left in that engine besides the block casting, cylinderhead casting and the crank :p I will post videos of my Volvo 960 Mk 2 here on YT when it's finished sometime in august. (Will be a ~100hp/litre NA Volvo 2.9 24v built by me in that one ;) )

  • ah well let me know

  • @gotmatt2 I have to correct my self... Will not be finnished in august... But I will try to make my car finnished sometime in the spring or summer... right now the car is upside-down :p

  • how long did it take you guys to build this?

  • ??why didn't you guys use the ls7?

  • Aside from all the BS bantering that goes on from those with ATGNID syndrome .... that is a seriously cool project that you have there, 5* dude!

  • " ok, more flames then "

    Love it

  • 0-60?

  • an LSX or ls7 can be built stroked and bored up to 454Ci and tom Nelson of Nelson Racing Engines has billet al. Quad OHC 500Ci small block with a 9500 rpm red line this engine is the sickest thing going right now 2500 relyable horse power

  • what's more: more power wouldn't make the car much faster but surtainly even less drivable.

You would need a custom build gearbox that could run up to about 30k $. And no comercial (road legal) tire could handle the power since it's only 2 wheel drive.(Even the veyron's tires have a tendency to come off..)

Remenber, this is NOT a drag racer!!

  • @maurits555 yes but the Veryon is dealing with being over weight

  • @sirlonghair the weight help the car stick to the road when speeding beyond 400kph, a light car doing that speed would be very unstable.. thats why land speed record "car" weigh a few tons, although the engine is actually the heaviest (jet engine)..

  • @theundeadx thats why you need positive down force not weight weight is the enemy of speed read My last comment again the veryon is so heavy at full speed the best rubber compounds are receiving so much friction expanding against the gross weight they are disintegrating if it weighed less it could go faster weight don't help stopping so it won't help going this is why with an LS3 at only 418lbs and having 780Hp N/A in this car can do 0-100-0 in 9.2 sec.world record it's all about light weight

  • @sirlonghair ls3? is that a car?

  • @theundeadx the LS3 is a Chevy small block engine and is what comes from ultima in a GTR stock with up to 780 HP from naturally aspirated chevy supercharges this engine and calls it the LS9 in the ZR1 theZO6 LSX or LS7 is a different stronger block that is 450pounds and the LS3 is 418pounds

  • @sirlonghair i see, well i actually didnt read your comment before, im just pointing out why veyron is overweight.. im not an expert or a bugatti engineer so i cant explain further details why.. if its more lighter im sure it will be fast but perhaps they knew better why its overweight.. for a car weighing close to 2000kg pulling around 1.4g (supersport) on skidpad its quite awesome.. =)

  • Again, it's obvious that no one here has ever driven a 900kg/500hp car with driver talent as the only safety feature.

    So here's what it's like:

I get 100mph on the 400m stetch behind my house without exiding 4500rpm or 3rd gear.

The car is so fast that both Bas & I have started smaller projects in order to get more driving experiance.

  • what engine is that?

  • GOD BLESS THE MACHINE!!!!!!!.......

  • this is the creepiest sounding car ever. Bet it is fast though.

  • GRRREAT video!! Cool sounds and video quality.

  • Where did you get the engine???????

  • The dyno noise is super annoying.

  • that engine is less powerful and heaver than the engine they come with

  • they don't come with one LOL but most people use SBC. But yeah I would much rather have a high reving LS7

  • @MarcsMobileAudio how about an old 302 bowtie with a 9500rpm red line

  • @sirlonghair it would get the horshit beat out of it...this motor is nowhere near its potential...and it wieghs soo much less!

oh and try to make your valvetrain on a pushrod motor stay together for any extended period of time at 9000+rpms...for tthe price to make it do that you could have built it turbochrged at half the rpms and twice the power!

  • @johnwygant NRE revolution 500ci. twin turbo SMALL BLOCK v8 OHC 9000RPM 2500Hp all billet milled aluminum block, heads, fuel injection manifold, valve covers and pulleys and such this IS the sickest engine being built in the world I want one in an Ultima GTR be about 130 grand finished all done and built and would eat a Lamborghini or Ferrari of any type and do it for years to come

  • @sirlonghair LOL! its 520whp and weighs 485lbs. ????? all on a unopened 5-5.2 liter V10.

  • i think i heard a BOV or something

  • Couldn't be a BOV, you can see the open ITBs on top of the engine, so it can't be turbo/supercharged.

  • this setup will work great especially with the weight of the vehicle.....the horsepower and torque won't be wasted due to traction issues because most of the power is at the upper end of the rev band.....great exhaust by the way.....have you thought of porting the ITB's? or is this going to be a street car?

  • The engine sounds great, but what a load of shit!!!!!!!!

  • wow, it looks and sounds almost exactly like an old formula one V10!

  • soundz lyk a fukn duck caller

  • thats the dyno u retard

  • how do you guys feel about the porsche gearstick being right handed? the getrag that some people get sits right between the seats.i feel much better about getting an ultima with THAT setup.

  • Siraff is right:

the car is about 900 kg with this much power it is almost impossible to drive as it is

remember: no ABS/ traction / stability control or any driver aid. It's all down to talent.

  • @maurits555 and that's the way it should be :D

  • @maurits555 how much money for the engine and how much dose it weigh an ls3 is only 418 pounds

  • @sirlonghair Engine weighs about the same. Don,t know price but it was expensive. an LS is surtainly sheaper

  • @maurits555 how many cubic inches is this v-10?

and would you have enough room to turbo charge it or twin turbo charge it in the gtr ?

  • @redghost105 5,2 litres equatse to 318 cid.

And yes, you could fit the new RS6 TT V10, but would need a new (custom biuld) gearbox

  • about the gearbox:

It's an Audi 2.7 diesel 6speed transaxle. this bolts threaght on to the engine, no adaptor needed. Gear ratios are on the high side, but for now OK.

    Siraff is right:

the car is about 900 kg with this much power it is almost impossible to drive as it is

remember: no ABS/ traction / stability control or any driver aid. It's all down to talent.

  • Here's a reply to some of your posts:

    about the dyno:

Kronnenburg dyno is intended for smaller track car, where power is less important.

And yes, it maxed out on speed (300+ km/h) . the test is run in high gear in order to properly set the injection mapping under load.

The dyno is very noisy, but it's being run indoors, 'cause the sound drives the neighbours mad

  • This is awesome, regardless of power output. Sure there are usually V8s more powerful than this in GTRs, but there is a lot to be said for a V10 with 40 valves, 4 cams, etc etc just on the technical end of things. I'm sure the drivability is amazing too.

As an aside, since engines of the same layout sound similar: I was behind a Carrera GT at a toll booth when it took off like an F-18 on a catapult...AMAZING SOUND. This being a V10 sounds very similar, and gotta love flames on the overrun! A+++

  • I love V10s, especially a Carrera GT with straight pipes!!!

  • my dream cars. either the carrera GT or an Ultima, both of which i would suck at driving! lol

  • LOL, me too! Fortunately Buttonwillow raceway is less than an hour away which is good!

  • Why is everyone going on about 1000hp this an that? Who cares if someone's V8 can make 10 pence more than someone else's? That's just pointless dick swinging. This car has obviously been built for someone to enjoy driving it so they wanted low weight, huge capability and a screaming V10.

These cars are usually close to 1000kg which gives it a better power-weight than a veyron in this spec. At that level enjoyment is much more important than bragging rights.

  • so true!! 1000hp with this weight would be retarded on a track (road course). It would be

pointless to drive. The P/W ration is more crazy then todays F1 cars.

  • the power to weight of some cars is pretty insane but they dont have half of the advanced electronics of an F1....shame really :D lol

  • Agreed! it probably has less than half the aerodynamics and grip that a modern F1 car possess. Have a good xmas and God bless

  • what tranny u running?

  • Its usually a porsche transaxle in the ultima but audi ones (from the front of an A6 or similar) have been known - that may be an easier bolt up for this engine.

  • well someone's whining!

  • 520hp and it maxed out the dyno? What a crap dyno!

  • i think it maxed out the dyno speed... we used to do it at tafe with a 200rwkw VL easy.

come up with a big warning something like that

  • I think it was just spinning too fast, they probably just had to run the test in a lower gear.

  • WTH is up with the dyno?? It's noiser than the engine itself!! Rats, 1:16 - 1:34 is the only part where you can enjoy the V10 music.

That V10 sounds way past sweet though!!

  • 620/8500 :D nice sound v10 best

  • umm there is 1000+ hp LS motors out there, With no turbos, but your not going to be burning pump gas, sorry to say this, but there inst a motor out there today (naturally aspirated) that can make 1000 hp on pump gas.. it just can't be done. and while those 10 cylinder engines do put out the nice HP #s they lack in the department that gets you going, torque. General motors dose make little monsters, at a very reasonable price with loads of performance parts, just makes more sense to me....

  • there are NA motors that make over well over 1000 on pump fuel using big cubic inches.

  • wtf are you talking about???? There is hell alot of engines that makes over 1000hp Naturally aspirated.

  • wow, that sounds unbelievable, too bad the tire noise on the roller is drowning it out.. It definitely gives it the exotic sound this car deserves. Not a shade tree mechanics hot rod Chevy sound..

  • that is not very bad at all.. all im sayin is the same power is made with the LS7.. 505 hp factory.. yes 1000 hp had been proven on both engines when twin turbo'd.. i wouldnt want it.. you would end up doin donuts whenever you tried to go, LOL... as for titanium connecting rods, i never liked the idea, you get a set of BME aluminum connecting rods, good for 8000 hp..

  • FIRST off, i don't know where you are getting a truck engine from a CORVETTE engine.. get your facts straight.. SECOND, if you say that the engine weighs 400 (which i don't believe for a minute) doesn't mean anything as a Corvette LS7 weighs 458 lbs with all accessories and fluids.. i think a v10 weighs just a little bit more than a v8... Now where did this magical number of 1000 hp come from? i never said this.. and my "old pontiac" has nothing to do with this so why did ya bring it up? jackass

  • LOL! you said you could make more power with LSX but the 1000 that has been proven to happen with the V10 when twin turbo'd, is plenty for this application.

BTW you must TT the Lsx to do the same.

The guy on his website, who built this car, weighed the engine, and i qoute, 220kg's which is 400 lbs to you and me.

That LS7 has tiny titanium rods that have proven to give way at 800 hp so your weight will go up alil when you fix that, oh and that whole Cyl wall issue, you need sleeves too.

  • all that increases your weight, the bulider also said the V10 was smaller.

and damn, it did 520@ the wheels with ITB's and i guess exhaust, thats nice for an opened engine.

What about the zo6, like 450 with header exhaust, IDK im guesstamating.

I never said the engines were the exact same, but they are related and they do sound the same.

  • Damn it, it's x 2.20465 i dont know what i was thinking?

    the engine weighs 485lbs.

But still, thats not that bad for 520whp.

  • sounds like shit. put a chevy back in it.

  • So it can sound like a truck and be heavier?

  • so it can actually make some power. sorry a twin turbo LSX would make alot more power than that peice of shit. V fuckin 10 my ass..

  • Comment removed

  • I wanna put a Viper V10 in an Ultima GTR.

    Sounds great!.

  • Sounds like a old time police siren!!

  • where did u buy the motor?

  • Whoever put that website together has the spelling ability of an 8 year old.

  • Thats gotta be a shit dyno to max out at 500hp lol

  • This sounds more like what a Ultima should sound like.
