@freedombiteback yea NZ does have natives, the Maori's and they are definately at the lower end of the economic scale though they are not half as mis-treated as the Aboriginals. Maoris have actually been awarded what must now be billions of dollars in land etc - though, as is typical, it is only a few at the top of the maori 'tribes' that take all the cash and the rest get nothing. They however still have a voice - the aboriginals have pretty much none. But again, its not really spoken about

@MaTtRoSiTy You have no idea what you are talking about. You need to read about settler colonialism, 'it's never talked about' in nz because colonialisation may be bad as a rule but nz colonialisation is some kind of exception - I think you'll find evey settler colonial society taks about itself in exactly the same way. In nz maori population was reduced by 80%, 95% of the land was stolen but oh that's different, you're enlightened, you treat your natives so well, not like those other settlers

@kaiwhakaoko well actually, the concerns of the "natives" of NZ are addressed very well in comparison to other colonised nations. Where to I treat colonialisation of NZ as somehow different? Maori are given special privilleges at every turn yet many seem to want to be treated as special and somehow above the rest of society. In comparison to the Aboriginals they have it pretty good but they want more. The trouble is, its the elite Maori that benefits. Im not against land claims either.

@freedombiteback - I grew up in New Zealand and there are none there. But I can tell you that in Aussie you never see an Aboriginal in a school uniform on the trains or busses. They seem to be banished to certain parts of the cities and/or are left to resort to begging in the cities. I didnt see any when I first moved to Sydney, only in the sleazy parts - begging and drinking on the street. But, you dont mention it to anyone - they mostly dont want to know...

Good vid - few years old now but I can tell you from my own personal observations nothing at all has changed for the aboriginal people. Oh, there was a reluctant and insincere apology to the Aboriginals for stealing their children off them so I guess thats something.... (not really).
