thats really effective! quite gory when they pop tho. like a big spot lol. i'm also surprised they are still alive when popped or "gutted". i'd have thought they'd be DEAD.
jeezus lads!,..nice one didnt know this sort o gear existed,..i am a yorkshire lad now living on the isle of wight,..tell me do they do a similar sorta contraption to get cockles?,..:-)
is this the same as pumping blow lug i bought a pump i used it today i got a few but wasnt sure where to put the pump to the cast any help would be great cheers
Hi great video and information, I'd like to give this a go myself as I live on the coast here in the UK, but I see Shakespeare Alvey have 3 models of bait pumps !, SLIM, LONG SLIM and WIDE....which would you recommend and why please. I will be using it for Lugworm. Thank you.
weve got them here in iceland as ive seen them in the fishes guts (im a filleter) ive got three beaches here that only two people dig but they are blow lug :) OH HOW I WOULD LOVE TO FIND THE BEACH THATS GOT BLACKS ON .nice vid by the way ;)
What beach was this, I recently bought a 2" bore Alvey bait pump and am getting buggar all on Fleetwood beach. It is also killing my back. I am 6ft 4.
Also, a two inch bore is really hard work, but can help you get the technique. I personally prefer the smaller bore pumps.
At 6ft 4 your back WILL hurt, try the longest pump you can get. You may be better getting someone to make you a longer custom pump. Im only a short arse and i still use the longer pump.
Make sure your pump is sucking.... (sounds obvious...) Tightening the pump right up often makes the seal worse!
They are gutted so that they keep better. Left out of water they start to "blow"
You can keep them in sea water (they are then sometimes called swimmers) but the water has to be checked regularly, dead worms removed, water changed......
so this is how popping a giant sit would look like
