A trip to the PIT is always bad. But worse are the "Island Hopping Campaigns" where you visit all the sand pits of the depot for a PIT session in each. Ugh...

There is a reason a 1st class PFT is required just to apply to OCS while you can go to recruit training with only 3 pull-ups and never run more than 1.5 miles.
The structured PT at OCS is much tougher physically than at MCRD PI or MCRD SD.
@TheMarineKid17 When my brother was stationed at MCAS Beaufort, We took at a short trip over to Parris Island, I had my camera, I was taking pictures of recruits during their drill. I still don't know if the man was the SDI or a Second Hat, but someone from the Drill instructor asked if I was taking pictures of his recruits, I told him I was. He politely asked to erase the pictures and since this guy had ,more muscles than me I complied. I did not know you couldn't take pics of recruits.
WTF! That was a weak ass smoke session!...running in place and mountain climbers?!?!?!?! We used to do "minute thirties" at Benning on our PT track. You had to chug your entire canteen then sprint the whole quarter mile track in a minute and thirty seconds. Everyone puked up there water and only a handful of guys would make it on time. Then we would repeat this process about 6 times. Then we got to do "log" PT. Oh fun! I'm re-enlisting with the Corps in a few months, they need to get with it!

The fact that your comparing Army infantry boot camp to USMC boot camp speaks volumes m8....USMC is broken down into MOS so cooks are getting the same training as grunts (intially)..When I was in the Ossie Army I had the pleasure of training with both, but USMC was superior
I assume they still do (hit, et cetera), but it is probably hidden better from the brass these days. I doubt that the LTs and Majors really care, either, but higher up than that and they probably have to at least PRETEND like they care.

USMC 70-74 , MY DRILL INSTRUCTERS WERE KICKED OUT WHEN THEY PICKED UP THE NEXT CLASS ,FOR BEATING THE PLATOON AND SOME GUY GOT OUT OF THE BARRACKS AND FOUND SOME OFFICER BROUGHT HIM BACK WHERE HE CAUGHT THEM IN ACTION KICKING ASS, OUR PLATOON WAS ASKED IF WE WANTED TO BE TAUGHT THE OLD CORP WAY OR THE NEW CORPS WAYS WHICH WAS TO KICK YOUR ASS WHEN WE DID WRONG AND NOT REPORT IT .......THEY TOOK ADVANTAGE OF OUR DECISION ,NOT THAT IT WOULD HAVE MATTERED, THEY JUST LOVED KICKING ASS ,SEMPER FI

THATS A NICE PIT , WE USED WATER AND MUDAND SAND ,LAY ON OUR BACK AND GET HANDFULS TO THROW IN THE AIR BESIDES WHAT THEY ARE DOING AND MORE ,MOST OF THE TIME YOUR RIFLE WENT IN WITH YOU , WHEN THEY WERE DONE WE HAD 10 MINS OR LESS TO CLEAN RIFLE AND STAND RIFLE INSPECTION , IF YOU DIDNT PASS IT WAS BACK TO THE PIT.

The Senior DI's have the Black belts and the other 2-3 animals have green belts, they simply just dont give a fuck lol. I miss the PIT i could do it all day. I miss popping sticks too, hell I miss it all, the good old days, 1998 PArris Island Platoon 3052 Kilo Company. Miss you SDI Sgt Buck, Sgt Allen and my favorite Sgt Edwards lol...." @usmclex Dude, popping sticks was my favorite thing next to sleeping. Unfortunately the DI that taught us marching and popping sticks had a REALLY short fuse. He hated my guts, and if marching and all that hadn't been my favorite, I would have gone crazy.

@SEXYBlueNinja All Marines go through Parris Island or San Diego and yes that includes Officers. In fact OCS (Officer Candidate School) is often considered one of the hardest schools in the US Military.

OCS is located at Quantico not Parris Island. Enlisted boot camp at Parris Island and yes West coast too,,, is considered the toughest in the world. OCS school is completely different and includes more class room training, less P.T..

There is a reason a 1st class PFT is required just to apply to OCS while you can go to recruit training with only 3 pull-ups and never run more than 1.5 miles.
The structured PT at OCS is much tougher physically than at MCRD PI or MCRD SD.

@TheMarineKid17 When my brother was stationed at MCAS Beaufort, We took at a short trip over to Parris Island, I had my camera, I was taking pictures of recruits during their drill. I still don't know if the man was the SDI or a Second Hat, but someone from the Drill instructor asked if I was taking pictures of his recruits, I told him I was. He politely asked to erase the pictures and since this guy had ,more muscles than me I complied. I did not know you couldn't take pics of recruits.

WTF! That was a weak ass smoke session!...running in place and mountain climbers?!?!?!?! We used to do "minute thirties" at Benning on our PT track. You had to chug your entire canteen then sprint the whole quarter mile track in a minute and thirty seconds. Everyone puked up there water and only a handful of guys would make it on time. Then we would repeat this process about 6 times. Then we got to do "log" PT. Oh fun! I'm re-enlisting with the Corps in a few months, they need to get with it!

@FrankDeSonia11B Same stuff everywhere...My neighbor was a former Army grunt, and later joined the USMC..He admitted that Parris Island was tougher than Benning, but Benning is by far the toughest boot in the Army. The fact that your comparing Army infantry boot camp to USMC boot camp speaks volumes m8....USMC is broken down into MOS so cooks are getting the same training as grunts (intially)..When I was in the Ossie Army I had the pleasure of training with both, but USMC was superior

I assume they still do (hit, et cetera), but it is probably hidden better from the brass these days. I doubt that the LTs and Majors really care, either, but higher up than that and they probably have to at least PRETEND like they care.
We are talking about training Marines for Christ's sake. I wouldn't trust a person in combat who couldn't take a black eye or busted lip without whining about it.
