For one, Holland has seen far to many Wars. We have been in Wars with the Spanish. We have been in Wars with the French. We have been in Wars with the British. We have been in Wars with the Germans. Finally with the EU we have stopped digging graves and some people are against EU. Strange. Is Iceland doing any better. Japan perhaps with it`s monstrous debt. Perhaps the US with it`s 14 Trillion Debt and 43 US states on the Brink of Financial ruin. Yes, I love the EU. Insult me all you want.
Oh please Ozzycriss give up the lies. Ireland is obliged to hold a referendum on any EU Treaty such as Lisbon. Don't you remember the Crotty Judgement. Practically every point in the video is a lie and it's amazing that after Ireland exercised its democratic right to change its mind on the Lisbon Treaty the No camp is still peddling lies. Do you really want to live in the world of Fraeuli (below) where we have to consult the Virgin Mary on European policy?
@padraigomairtin True, but isn't it abit odd that they phushed two out? It clearly shows they didn't care what the people of Ireland thought, or does that not make sense
I presume "they" here is the EU commission. They did care. They were advised by the Irish government about the unfounded concerns brought about by the No camp. (Conscription, Abortion etc) and they gave, admittedly unneeded, legally binding guarantees. The No camp in the 2nd referendum were forced into the most outlandish lies. They lost all credibility and thus lost the referendum
too late to vote no now all we can do if TAKE ARMS against any laws they want to put on us. they want to become an empire like britain and oppress us. Take Arms and Fight For Ireland!
"Ireland belongs to Europe by history, tradition and sentiment... Our destiny is bound up with that of Europe...Ireland accepts the ideal of European unity and the conception embodied in the Treaty of Rome." That is from someone who fought for Ireland's independence in 1916 not a paper patriot like you.
paper patriot? fine then if you want a go say so and we'll fight. best man wins.
and fuck europe they want to nick our jobs and send our businesses to china because its cheaper there. so what happens when all jobs move to china? we move with them. thereby ireland dies which i wont let. as long as i breath ill fight for Eire
By the way, the real patriot and 1916 hero who said those words was Sean Lemass. Your vision of an Ireland isolated from Europe would impoverish us all and your "fight" would be the ruin of us. Real patriots act in the best interests of their country. Ireland has gone from being an imporished backwater to one of the richest countries in the world since we joined Europe in '73. The real patriot Lemass was right about Europe. You, the paper patriot are wrong.
haha they want to take away our voting rights. increase military spending, make an army equal to america, control all the stuff we need. take control of our bunreacht na hEirinn and if we didnt vote yes they'd have made us pay back severly increased rates of tax.
all because we are a small country.
Fuck Europe,Fuck the EU, Fuck the Lisbon Treaty.
im not going to obey ANY rules passed by Europe becaues i didnt accept it.
You fools you have no idea whats coming , Ireland for instance, will no longer be able even to hold a referendum on increased EU central powers . You all deserve everything thats coming down the pipe .
Just in>>> Ireland has voted YESSS !!! To the Lissabon Treaty!!!!!!!! . This is A great day For Ireland And a Great day For Europe. Thank you Ireland!!! Peace prevails. Anyone who was still against Europe is a War loving fool. Europe has seen enough wars. We need Peace. War Never Again. Europeans United. Love and Peace from Holland.
1957Rotu, I had already read your first comment about the archbishop. But in the hierarchy of the Catholic Church, one must consider the apparent opinion of God and the Blessed Virgin Mary even above that of an archbishop. Taking power out of the hands of the Irish Christians forever and giving it to the money worshipers is surely not Their preference.

SAY IT AGAIN!! AND SAY IT LOUDER!!!!! I am from germany, I hope and "pray", wish and I am on my knees, that you VOTE NO!!! please irish galant people, SAVE OUR SOULS!!! freedom is everything!! pro europe, contra lisbon treaty!
*YES SIDE: all international chambers of commerce, most independent economists, 3 main political parties, IFA, IBEC, SIPTU, ICTU, most major trade unions, Small Firms Association, Pfizer, Ryanair, Intel, Microsoft.
I believe Our Lady of Knock would be more inclined to side with those who intend to vote against this treaty which is meant to IRREVERSIBLY take the power out of Irish Christian hands and put it in the hands of those who worship Mammon (money) as their God.
Vote NO, and pray the powerful ROSARY before tomorrow, with friends! How can a distraught mother, abandoned by her children, help them? Show her we still love her as our fathers of ages past did, and she will return that love and asist us.
Your entitled to your opinion. But it's not shared by Archbishop Martin of Dublin. He has made it clear that there is nothing in the Lisbon Treaty which will have an adverse impact on Catholicism. That's good enough for me.
NO SIDE: Shinners, Ganley, Socialists, Coir, Eirigi, UKIP, Le Pen, BNP.

look at who is paying for the posters for FF/FG and lab. the euro parties they are members of who stand to benefit from increased powers. i dont vote what anyone else wants but myself. i look up the facts and make my own mind up. u should try it. u can always find an agenda if u want to.
nothing was negotiated there is wasnt as much a full stop changed on the treaty if that was the case it would have to ratify the whole treaty for all the 27 countries in europe and i dont think there going to do that to suit the irish.FUCK LISBON VOTE NO WERE THE FIGHTING IRISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Brian cowen said himself that he didnt even read it, WTF do we have running our country, a man who wants to sign a treaty he hasnt even read, if this doesnt give the YES heads a clue i dont know what will !!
i voted NO and all our votes were binned.. is this not a form of vote rigging.. F*CK LISBON more people now will vote NO.. we should get the F*CK out of the EU. its like NAZI Germany...
« Project Indect » is developing computer programmes to monitor & process information from web sites ;discussion forums ;file servers ;networks and individual computers.THIS PROJECT HAS EU FUNDING. All this info could then be used by SitCen ( the EUs « secret service »).
The EU already has its own para-military (EGF) and has granted its police (Europol) immunity from criminal prosecution.
The Lisbon treaty/constitution's "citizens initiative" shows us what post-democratic Europe will look like...a million EU "citizens" will be "allowed" to gather 1 million signatures and present this petition to the UN-ELECTED COMMISSION who are under no obligation whatsoever to do anything about it !
This is how far democracy has sunk in once democratic Europe....Gerge Orwell must be turning in his grave.
Second Lisbon Treaty referendum in Ireland on 2nd October 2009 after the EU gave guarantees to Ireland which will not apply to the other 26 EU countries.
This is the result of an opinion poll in Ireland at three weeks to go:
The yes campaign say we have more to lose if not in the E.U. Who says we wont be in the E.U.? Voting no is not a no vote to Europe but a no vote to the Lisbon treaty. Legally everything will remain the same as we cannot be ejected from Europe as we have legally entered into agreement with the Nice treaty, so why must we be bullied and isolated? Why is the Council so against giving referendums to the 27? |That i a question that needs answering...
You have no idea of the shit storm that would blow upon us if we weren't in the EU at this moment. A world financial crisis is right over our heads and you're saying you want to give the middle finger to the one institution that's actually doing something about it? And no I'm doing talking about our incompetent government. You guys should take on board the fact that IRISH GO'T is not EUROPEAN UNION! I'll give you proof that we're better in than out. Just ask and I'll say....////
We will still be in the EU if we say no. thats not what its about. they can come up with another 'treaty' that the people approve of if they want to in the future. not this one. or at least give other europeans the chance to decide.
The EU is supposed to be a grouping of sovereign countries working together but the Lisbon treaty/constitution will change all that and turn the EU into a legal entity that is SUPERIOR in law to sovereign countries, laws and constitutions !
The EU didn't even have the decency to ask us if we wanted to become EU "citizens"...apart from the French,Dutch and brave Irish who ALL SAID NO !
The Swedish presidency is already working on an EU-wide ban on alchohol in shops ! What's next ?
Ireland voted no margainly! people sought clarification on a number of issues including our corporation tax and army neutrality! we went back and negotiated and got clarity on the issues!we got exactly what all the NO campainers wanted and now they still arent happy!! the polls show that the YES vote will carry significantly! and our economy will recover with the HELP of europe not because of europe. by god if something happens and the NO people change the populations mind then we are all fucked
I think that is the case right already? now due to the viral criminality and corruption that is endemic in the political system in Ireland and the EU. It will never get better under these crooks.
A Yes vote allows them to continue.
A Yes vote is a turkey voting for Christmas.
We will never recover until we get a firm grip again on our Nation and implement a moral and patriotic framework into government and the economy.
those guarantees arent legally binding. i said NO and as far as i can tell most people i know said No too. the no side didnt change my mind, my mind was already made up. i did my own research and made my own mind up last year. we are not all fucked if we say No. unless the EU decides to punish us for it - which has nothing to do with the content of the lisbon treaty. if its about economics, y include a whole section n military plans? capitalism dictates recessions and the EU is pure capitalism.
Id love to stay and chat but it looks like the YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS side won significantly!!you can thanks us in years to come! you are the weakest link....GOODBYE!!!!
eamon de valera, michael collins and james connolly must be spinning in their graves because fianna fail, fine gael, and labour say vote yes.if we vote yes ireland will have a 1% say in europe.did we fight a civil war over that?
Our democracy will be gone. The fact that we're being forced to vote again proves it. I think they've already decided on the yes vote. Fucking crooked slimy cunt Irish politicians
Did you know that the EU already has it's own para-military ? Google their website :
EUROPEAN GENDARMERIE FORCE they are "first and foremost at the disposal of the EU". Remember, after Lisbon the EU becomes a state and we ALL become it's citizens.Tony Blair will be our President and all our constitutions overuled by the EU's own supreme court !
Only Ireland can block this MADNESS by voting NO again...for our children's sakes !
Greetings from (still) democratic,sovereign Germany.
Facts are facts. If you want to look at the facts of how this treaty will affect 500 million people then google : No 2 Lisbon 2.
Open Europe does a free daily newsletter on EU news and also has information on the treaty.
Are No 2 Lisbon 2 and Open Europe biased against the Lisbon treaty/constitution ? Yes,but so is everyone else who believes in democracy and the right of sovereign peoples to vote for their own leaders and decide their own destinies !
Voting yes undermines democracy, we fought for independence and got it in 1922, and became an independant democratic country.
87 years later we are handing over power to the Eu at an amazing pace, giving the European constitution priority over Bunreacht na hEireann, and allowing our democracy to be ruled by dictators.
« The EU is certainly playing, and will continue to play, a central role in shaping the new order that is gradually emerging..the EU is the natural starting point for any effort to improve global governance »
( José Barosso, President of the un-elected « commission ).
"The need to bolster Europe's military capabilities to match our aspirations is more urgent than ever"
Under new rules to be introduced next April, Schengen Information II,anyone who has a European Arrest Warrant issued against them will be automatically arrested. National courts must then allow an extradition, even if there are concerns about the standards of justice in the country they are being sent to, and even for minor offences including driving offences.
Estimates suggest 1,050 and 1,700 a year will be extradited when Schengen II comes into effect.
IRELAND say NO for all us Europeans denied a vote on this :
« European governments & EU policy-makers are pursuing unfettered powers to acess & gather masses of personal data on the everyday life of everyone. » (Statewatch)
"Individual rights to privacy & FREEDOMS are being fatally undermined » (European Civil Liberties Network)
The same group warns against « dangerous authoritarian tendencies within the EU. »
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
So we follow the lead of the British who (through their religious age old fear of the continent of Europe) make such a noise against the Lisbon treaty. Ireland's success was built (for the most part) on the support and financing of the EU. The only way forward is standing together as European nations for effective and work together for the betterment of our continent. The English can stick to their religious fears and leave the EU.
The Lisbon Treaty creates a secretive new Standing Committee for Internal Security, known as COSI : new proposals will create an EU ID card register, internet surveillance systems, satellite surveillance, automated exit-entry border systems operated by machines reading biometrics and risk profiling systems.

What are we going to tell our grandchildren when they ask us why we let Big Brother happen ?
what's happening with lisbon 2 , i think the work has to be put in now , people are more scared than last year and the government will use this to pass it this time , the no side has to start working now and harder than before
Though polls have shown in both Europe AND Turkey ( population 72 million ) that a majority are against Turkey joining the EU....public opinion is being ignored ( as usual ) by Brussels.
The Lisbon Treaty insists that all states should expand their "military capabilities" ( page 39 ), and Turkey's membership will make the planned EU military machine LARGER than that of the U.S.A.!
What for and with whose money ?
Our money !
Vote in June's European elections for democracy and peace.
What sort of EUROPEAN UNION needs laws like these ?
Convention for Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms ( Treaty of Rome ).
Article 15. Derogation ( i.e. EXCEPTION ) in time of emergency.
Paragraph 2. No derogation from Article 2 ( Right to life ) EXCEPT in respect of deaths resulting from lawful acts of war, or from Articles 3 ( Torture ),4 (Slavery and Forced Labour) and 7 ( No Punishment Without Law ), shall be made under this provision.
1.« The EU can lawfully suppress political criticism of its institutions and of leading public figures « ( European Court of Justice ruling 2001 ).
2.The European Charter Of Fundamental Rights (article 2,passage 2c) states that « lethal force » can be used to quell « rioting, civil upheaval & during war ».
3.The same Charter does not
mention anywhere, the right of EU citizens to vote !
4.ALL future laws will be "proposed" by The Council of Europe.
I SUGGEST: since there is clearly no political party of repute, advocating or campaigning for withdrawal of these United Kingdoms from the EU and restoration of our independent sovereign, democracy, with Justice & the right to self determination in a free country - The EU is an evil concept bereft of democracy, funding, supporting & aiding politicians NOT people.

This is bullshit i dont agree with lisbon either but its stupid ignorant fake nationalists like you that spread fear mongering propaganda that scares people into to beleiveing that lisbon will allow europe to overide other irish laws against abortion and gay marriage euthanasia and so forth show me the article that allows èurope to overide irsh laws on these things? and just by the way you are a citzen of ireland before europe that is enshrined in both constitututions please respond
The Lisbon Treaty is a " self-amending " document ( Article 48 Lisbon Treaty) which can be changed at will AFTER all 27 countries have ratified it !
The (un-elected) Council of Europe`s 25 members will have the power to bring into law anything they damm well want and can DISSOLVE any state i.e. national parliament WHENEVER THEY SEE FIT ! This is all in the Lisbon Treaty,...read it and weep !
I wasn't pride to be Irish the day Ireland said no to Europe. I don't want to start the discussion anymore. Just this: using a U2 song here is hilarious!UC,the next time you buy U2 merchandise,it won't be a beautiful day for Ireland as it will be living without the royalty income from its most famous resident.U2 has moved their publishing empire to the Netherlands where it can avail of a near zero rate of tax on royalties. It's absolutely legal but not such a good example in this context, is it?
For "myself" I have no problem with Euthanasia, who wants to die a long painful death, we put our dog down when they are suffering and call it HUMANE and and act of mercy but not with folks. If I were to do unto others what I would want done unto me I would with permission (and much compassion) not have a qualm about it
Russia is going back to being an autocracy like it was under Lenin and Stalin and the tsars before them....your going to find yourselves between a rock and a hard place at least the finns put up a bit of a fight back in the 30's before handing over part of their country, you lot will probably roll over within 48 hours....even if he doesn't invade you moscow will tell you lot what to do.....you want the rest of us to become degenerates like the swedes..? ain't gonna happen windowlicker......ha ha
We don't need you, you ignorants! FUCK Ireland! I think EU should boycott you and every other free market tax haven in the world, so every country could rasie the taxes for the rich and get the opportunity to become a social democratic paradise like Sweden or Denmark.
And fuck your fundamentalist abortion laws, you ignorant catholic bastards! We'll do fine without you.
Ha ha we fucked you up real good,it's people like you that don't believe in anything that haS europe as fucked as it is....i'm catholic and proud of it....were the ones who will stop the march of islam in europe not you chickenshit believe in nothing assholes....
I live in Sweden and we fucking OWN you. We have much higher standards of living, liberal abortion laws, much much higher salaries, a far better health care system, free education for all, everyone get parental leave when they get children. Our economic growth has been higher than the US for the last decade. Our housing standard is one of the highest in the world.
from what i understand about sweden it is a nery nice place its a shame that you are ruining everybodys opinion of your country with your ignorant rascism
You think god likes tax havens? I think he hates ithem. You think god likes religios abortion laws which kills tens of thousands of women every year? I think he wants you ignorants to burn in hell.
The time when tax havens and fundamentalists ruled the world are long gone and you know it. Even the US has started to fight tax havens you know. So we'll se how long you could make it on your own you poor peasants. :D
you own jack shit you muppet.....wait till putin does a stalin on your ass and overruns the fucking lot of you in scandinavia.... you think the EU will stop him..nah they will do what they always and talk because they need his gas and oil....ha ha i'm glad i live on a island.....
so were we during the war..didn't stop hitler bombing us or overrunning belgium... i wouldn't place too much faith in being 'netural'... thats all you muppets do is sit on the fence anyway at least your neighbours in Norway had the courage to say NO because there is not enough democracy in the EU...you betrayed your real feelings towards us in your opening statement when you called us peasants...now us little countries know where we really stand with the likes of you... scumbag...
Europe is enjoying its greatest period of peace and prosperity in modern history and that goes for Ireland even more so than for other countries. You need to actually look at the world around you and stop living inside the sensationalist headlines of tabloid newspapers - where Europe is overrun by Muslims, fictional "Eurocrats" decide all of our laws for us and murderous paedophile abortion doctors lurk behind every corner.
Coming from a German whose whole country was rebuilt with US dollars after the war,i think your the whinger..you have all the high standards of living denied the rest of us and have had for a long, long time, and now you want a 'slave race' from eastern europe/turkey to clean your houses and look after your snotty nosed kids and fuck the rest of us....it was even said to the people of ireland during the election by a politican " at least this time it will be done without the panzers". WTF....!!
i've heard this anti chinese/indian argument before..is this how afraid the germans and french have become..? nations of chickenshits...!! there is a very good argument that the emerging economies of these countries will overheat and never reach their true potential so it might all come to nothing....china's inflation at the moment is way out of control, the biggest source of drinking water is drying up,and people there are starting to question 'the race to the bottom' as in europe...
The germans have some balls coming on and criticizing us about voting no.... your president hasn't even signed it into german law yet because of legal challenges in your courts from some of your fellow citizens who obviously don't agree with it either...what happens if your courts rule against your government.....??? merkel is going to look very stupid if it doesn't go through.....
Great answer here. The EU constitution enshrines capitalist or liberal economical principles (says a lot for a Constitution) and this guy manages to come here and call the EU commies.
The EU has a very tough policy towards immigration with stuff like the Odysseus plan and guy still managed to call the EU internationalists.
Great game. Truth is over in the Western world. Only propaganda can live on.
"liberal economical principles." this isn't the 18th century czman. it is no secret that liberal economic principles have long since been extinct. the keynesian central bankers have been the dominating influence in the industrialized world for quite some time now. let's see. hmmm... why the fuck would i call the EU internationalist? oh! maybe because it is an international body that undermines the sovereignty of each and every nation in it by imposing international regulations. duh!
I support European unity and freedom. Hitler said in Mein Kampf "Should one State preserve its national strength and its national greatness the empire of the Jewish satrapy, like every other tyranny, would have to succumb to the force of the national idea.". I suppoer co-operation between nations so fuck you nazis. Europe is at it's most vulnerable from internal and external enemies when divided and weak.:
kicked out of the EU...? thats not how the game is played my friend, every other country is watching the commission to see what they will do next...David and Goliath..what will the big bad EU do to little ol' ireland..in an election year in the U.S with McCain and Obama needing 40 million irish american votes .. try to penalise Ireland over a democractic vote..... ? democracy is the USA's biggest export, how could the EU criticze other countries like China of Zimbabwe ever again....
Come on! The EU isn't a marriage inseparably bound together by some mystical spell.
You made your decision, that the route the majority of the EU members want to go is wrong and you will not follow. OK, no problem. So take your own route, but stop whining about Ireland probably being kicked out of the EU.
You sound like someone sitting in a train and lamenting, that the train is heading in the wrong direction. Instead of waiting for the train to turn over, which is very unlikely, and annoy everybody else with your childish whining, leave the train at the next station and take another one that is heading towards your destination.
For all your bullshit you still haven't adressed my point..some of your fellow germans do not want this and are challenging it through your courts,i'm not moaning but i will not blindly follow politicans into a yes vote just because they say 'TRUST US'..i would of thought of all the european nations,Germany would know how dangerous blind faith in politicial leaders is..i don't know about Merkel and the german people but our politicial establishment have lost the trust of the people of Ireland.
You are right. But its 3 fellows. For each new law there are a few fellows going to court. It's OK. Better even the greatest dumb head has a chance to do this, than being arrested and beaten for speaking his mind like in China.
What you don't understand is, that neither USA nor China, India and all the others say, oh, the Europeans need a bit more time to sort out their selfish quarrelling, so we slow down a bit with developing our economy, expanding our influence, claiming global resources etc.
Those who voted no, did this because they fear about unpleasant changes happening, higher taxes, slowdown of economic growth, even more east-european guest worker, less EU subsidies. And they thought by voting no, everything will go on the same like it was since 1973. What a misbelief. The things you fear will happen, whether you vote yes or no, but with a no thing will get worse.
Actually, the advantageous corportate tax policy was allowed by EU subsidizes. They came as a means of filling the gap. In other ways, Ireland taxed the rest of the european countries.
Fuk this lesbian treaty , that fuking jew the president of EU is fuking controlong our laws that meens us . Did you ever heard about 1 litle book about jewish cospiracy ? Read that , and you will find out that all jews already taking over the world . EU will be world government , Here you are , jews again . They want to make money from every Irish person . They dont ask us do we want this lesbo treaty , the force us in a friendly way . You c , jews never fight , they go arount the mountain .
Well there you go,you thought wrong..the vikings didn't build nothing except raped pillaged and plundered before settling down but one of our greatest high kings Brian Boru kicked their asses back to scandanavia..... a bit like what we did to the lisbon treaty......
It was blind obedience to a leader that got the germans into getting their country cut in half for nearly half a century...and france with napoleon didn't fare much better...if your looking for us to be good little europeans and roll over for our government who IMHO are a bunch of crooks, you should study our history,if we had of done that in the dark ages when only Ireland kept the light of liberty and knowledge shining, the rest of europe would still be living in fucking caves somewhere.....
quote: "you should study our history,if we had of done that in the dark ages when only Ireland ... the rest of europe would still be living in fucking caves somewhere..."
Boy, and I thought it was the fucking Vikings who founded entire fucking Ireland, set up first fucking cities, among them fucking Dublin. If you studied fucking history, you would know that without the fucking Vikings, fucking people in fucking Ireland would still be fucking living in fucking caves. Fuck. Next!
I just watched QandA on tv ! the impression i get is that we will be having Lisbon 2 in about 6 to 8 months !! there is no democracy on this island , the government have refused to accept the wiil of the people ! i will just have to vote no again !!!!!
abousolutly bro',i'm not saying that the NO vote was all right, and the YES camp all wrong, but to be honest the yes camp didn't put their case very well to the public plus the fact that i think especially in Dublin it was more of a anti government vote, the farmers had their own reasons, but would you agree that the noises coming out of brussels since the result are less than democractic.?so much for any respect of the smaller EU members plus i think the fact no other EU state got to vote was bad..
But then isn't it even more undemocratic that people voted against the Treaty because of some, often ridiculous, warnings? In fact, I could seriously assume that the NO campaign was a farce, an exercise of blind politics. The YES campaign seemed poor because the Treaty is a boring document to read and very difficult to 'fire up'. The NO campaign relied on hijacking Republican ideals, scaremongering, and creating an unnecessary 'revolutionary' feeling. The Irish people deserved better.
The Lisbon Treaty was too far reaching. Irish people got the facts from the "No" camp. The "Yes" camp didn't have one good reason (except for their own selfish reasons) to sell the treaty to the Irish people. It's amazing they got as much of a "Yes" vote as they did. I agree with you on one thing though. Irish people do deserve better...better than Lisbon that's for sure.
Facts? The candidates in our survey who were anti-Treaty failed (for the most part) to present a single fact-based argument against the Treaty. They made generalised statements about Europe but did not refer to the Treaty. The "Yes" camp asserted that Europe had always been good for Ireland and that it would be unhealthy for us to become the 'pariah state' in the Union. The "No" camp played the politics of anxiety. The referendum was a joke; to call it democratic is a debasement of democracy
hear hear! I was a bit shocked myself to see such a Yes. Can nallyterrace give one good reason for the treaty besides some wishy washy fantasy of a happier more utopian Europe? Bearing in mind the average man? No probably not because it only supports industry and companies (because most of these politicians are shareholders in companies). It gives nothing to humanity. Talks about arming europe? and gives 1 line on education - that it should be privatised>! sounds like big business huh?
And their reason for doing this would be...? Please read this line carefully "But then isn't it even more undemocratic that people voted against the Treaty" erm no - that's democracy at it's Very best! we VOTED against it.
mircoit = micro brain..you obviously haven't read the majority of positive comments thanking us for voting no by people from all around europe in the media and on you tube,it's only the politicians that are getting their knickers in a twist..and people like gordon brown who are so arrogant that they are completely out of touch with their people, have a referendum in the UK like the labour party promised and see what hapens and have one in greece or germany and see..the EU can't handle democracy..
Bronwaterzzz.. no is the answer to your question, gordon brown wasn't elected as leader of the labour party and prime minister,he took over when Blair resigned and he promised the british people a referendum which he did not honour....people vote for politicians on the hope that they will do as they promise..as for taking money off american multinationals,i helped to build most of their factories and it has paid a good chunk of my mortgage so yes we like them but they don't own us...
You have to admit though henzoni, scaremongering was employed by the No campaigners which was often generalised and misguided. Many people didn't know a single term of the Treaty but still voted against it because of vague warnings like 'Europe's taking over' and 'they're taking away our neutrality'. In co-ordination with a Northern school I carried out a survey on 1000 poltically-motivated 18-24 year olds. Only around 32% of them could name a single term of the treaty. They all intended to vote.
abousolutly bro',i'm not saying that the NO vote was all right, and the YES camp all wrong, but to be honest the yes camp didn't put their case very well to the public plus the fact that i think especially in Dublin it was more of a anti government vote, the farmers had their own reasons, but would you agree that the noises coming out of brussels since the result are less than democractic.?so much for any respect of the smaller EU members plus i think the fact no other EU state got to vote was bad..
look at all the scaremongering going on now ! europe will be mad at us ! who gives a fuck ! nobody else gets to vote because the people of europe don't want lisbon ! pure and simple !!!
quote: "look at all the scaremongering going on now! nobody else gets to vote because the people of europe don't want lisbon! pure and simple!"
Nobody? So who were those almost 50% of the Irish who voted 'Yes'?
Irish people don't decide on behalf of my country (or any other for that matter), so we continue ratification and leave the door open, because it's our right.
We gave our ministers and parliaments the right to make decisions on behalf of us, to sign that treaty.
I spoke to a neighbor of mine as i was entering the polling station , we discussed the pros and cons of the tratry for a few minutes ! i voted no !! for lots of different reasons ! he voted yes ! because the government told him to !!!! he told me that , no matter what he always votes for the ruling party we have at the moment, he didnt read the treaty, he,s unemployed ! he is sick waiting ,for an operation, and still he does what the people in power tell him to do ! cont
we do not have what you would call a healthy democracy here ! people follow political party's like football teams ,. just like their parents and grandparents did ! if you don't want to accept the democratic will of the people, well then we may have a fight on our hands, by the way our government got relected with 40% of the 40% of voters who actually bothered to turn out and vote ! Does this mean we have to run another general election !!! go on ratify the treaty, see if i give a fuck
mikis78: "Irish people don't decide on behalf of my country (or any other for that matter), so we continue ratification and leave the door open, because it's our right".
Thats fine. Its just that the EU rules state that all countries must ratify the treaty.
jratt2: "Thats fine. Its just that the EU rules state that all countries must ratify the treaty"
Yea, but when the deal is sweetened a little, you'll vote for it like you did with Nice treaty. Or, there'll be two-speed EU without any treaty... or if nothing else can be done, maybe Ireland will be kicked out. Fine by me.
jratt2: "LMFAO - try reading a history book"
Yea, I did. That's what it told me. Before Vikings, Ireland was barbaria; uncivilized and uncultured. Vikings changed all that.
"Yea, I did. That's what it told me. Before Vikings, Ireland was barbaria; uncivilized and uncultured. Vikings changed all that".
What was the name of the book? Let me guess, you don't remember.
Ireland was barbaria as it was not in the Roman empire. It did however have a flourishing culture during the dark ages when your ancestors were still on the steppe of central asia, preserving christianity, classical culture etc. The vikings got bad press in Ireland and did add to Irish culture :).
Yes, apparently size is everything in the EU. When the French reject the EU constitution its taken seriously because of their size - when the Irish reject Lisbon we're small and insignificant and shouldn't be allowed to hold back the "UE"...
I think its democracy you have a problem with, not nationalism.
To jason1986poker..i hope your wrong bro' but knowing our spineless TD's and leaders i fear your right, remember the poll tax riots in london?it brought down thatcher, and the recent blockade by the fishermen of cork habour got the government to the table, people should seriously get off their arses and go out on the streets if they try to ignore this vote, fianna fail keep on about'towards 2016'the irish people will give them a reinactment of 1916 if they want, but i don't think they would like it..
"Nicolas Sarkozy, the French President, is working with European Union officials and diplomats to plan a special "legal arrangement" to bypass Ireland's referendum rejection."
Google: "Nicolas Sarkozy plans to bypass Irish no vote."
I am proud to say that I had the privilege of voting NO to the Lisbon Treaty recently, however I still fear for the future of my country and for the freedom and democracy of other countries. The second the NO result became known, the radio stations and TV stations were flooded with our TD's saying what a big mistake we had made and that we are in deep trouble. They now are saying that the Treaty will go ahead and that Ireland will sign protocols instead of the Treaty.
its not that simple. the usa can fuck off anyway though. theyll up for a surprise either way. but not the NWO way, not yet. fuck the treaty, fuck the usa.
I'm on a high since we voted no to the Lisbon treaty. Here the the new song to Amy Winehouse song, they tried to make me sign the Lisbon treaty, but i said no no no lol
So the Irish showed the world they have balls? OK!
But if you disagree with the route the majority of the EU countries agreed on after 7 years of debating, take your responsibility and leave the EU and stop whining, whether you might be kicked or what EU statute might prevent you from this fate.
A lot of comments in this thread remind me of a boy, who is telling everybody what fucking assholes his parents are but who is running into Moms kitchen, as soon as he gets hungry.
that is exactly what we want to do, and that is exactrly what the eu itself is preventing us from doing
the time has come to begin a program of political cleansing, starting with Valery Giscard d'Estaing, Nicolas Sarkozy, Angela "bitch" Merkel, Gordon Brown, Tony Blair, Manuel "dago" Barrosso and the corrupt homosexual cunt Peter Mandeleson
Nice Job Ireland!! Be proud of this moment, you deserve it for taken Action but remember that the elites of the EU will try and circumvent the people's vote by some kind of back room politics.
They ARE doing this in America with the NAU and Americans are going to throw out our traitors soon for allowing this to happen. I hope Americans learn from your victory and fight the NAU and with it the NWO.
I am so proud of you Ireland for saying no to these scumbags. Maybe now the other EU nations who do not want this legislation but get no vote will feel emboldened to stand up and shout no also.
I am English.. and I pray Ireland says NO!!! think about they won there Independance our Empire and now they want to trade it for another empire a Euro Empire... England dose not want it too but our Government under Brown dose not the the Backbone to give us the vote!!!

The bit about Ireland not having to hold a referendum is a complete lie. We are still obliged to hold a referendum.

@padraigomairtin True, but isn't it abit odd that they phushed two out? It clearly shows they didn't care what the people of Ireland thought, or does that not make sense
Eralun 2 years ago
I presume "they" here is the EU commission. They did care. They were advised by the Irish government about the unfounded concerns brought about by the No camp. (Conscription, Abortion etc) and they gave, admittedly unneeded, legally binding guarantees. The No camp in the 2nd referendum were forced into the most outlandish lies. They lost all credibility and thus lost the referendum

Vote NO, and pray the powerful ROSARY before tomorrow, with friends! How can a distraught mother, abandoned by her children, help them? Show her we still love her as our fathers of ages past did, and she will return that love and asist us.

All TOTALITARIAN STATES have 5 things in common.
1.They grant their officials and police immunity from prosecution (Europol & EU officials have immunity).
2.They have their own elite para-military (European Gendarmerie Force).
3.They have a "superior" court not independant of the system (European Court of Justice).
4.Are intent on monotoring their "citizens" (Stockholm program).
5.Have an un-elected "executive" that issues "directives" (the commission).

Europe is enjoying its greatest period of peace and prosperity in modern history and that goes for Ireland even more so than for other countries. when do you get to vote on secession from the commie internationalists? or is the EU like a venus fly trap?
ProprietorOfSelf 3 years ago
Great answer here. The EU constitution enshrines capitalist or liberal economical principles (says a lot for a Constitution) and this guy manages to come here and call the EU commies.
The EU has a very tough policy towards immigration with stuff like the Odysseus plan and guy still managed to call the EU internationalists.
Great game. Truth is over in the Western world. Only propaganda can live on.

"liberal economical principles." this isn't the 18th century czman. it is no secret that liberal economic principles have long since been extinct. the keynesian central bankers have been the dominating influence in the industrialized world for quite some time now. let's see. hmmm... why the fuck would i call the EU internationalist? oh! maybe because it is an international body that undermines the sovereignty of each and every nation in it by imposing international regulations. duh!

Come on! The EU isn't a marriage inseparably bound together by some mystical spell.
You made your decision, that the route the majority of the EU members want to go is wrong and you will not follow. OK, no problem. So take your own route, but stop whining about Ireland probably being kicked out of the EU.

Tubalugaduba 3 years ago
Those who voted no, did this because they fear about unpleasant changes happening, higher taxes, slowdown of economic growth, even more east-european guest worker, less EU subsidies. And they thought by voting no, everything will go on the same like it was since 1973. What a misbelief. The things you fear will happen, whether you vote yes or no, but with a no thing will get worse.
Tubalugaduba 3 years ago
Actually, the advantageous corportate tax policy was allowed by EU subsidizes. They came as a means of filling the gap. In other ways, Ireland taxed the rest of the european countries.

abousolutly bro',i'm not saying that the NO vote was all right, and the YES camp all wrong, but to be honest the yes camp didn't put their case very well to the public plus the fact that i think especially in Dublin it was more of a anti government vote, the farmers had their own reasons, but would you agree that the noises coming out of brussels since the result are less than democractic.?so much for any respect of the smaller EU members plus i think the fact no other EU state got to vote was bad..
henzoni 3 years ago
But then isn't it even more undemocratic that people voted against the Treaty because of some, often ridiculous, warnings? In fact, I could seriously assume that the NO campaign was a farce, an exercise of blind politics. The YES campaign seemed poor because the Treaty is a boring document to read and very difficult to 'fire up'. The NO campaign relied on hijacking Republican ideals, scaremongering, and creating an unnecessary 'revolutionary' feeling. The Irish people deserved better.
nallyterrace 3 years ago
The Lisbon Treaty was too far reaching. Irish people got the facts from the "No" camp. The "Yes" camp didn't have one good reason (except for their own selfish reasons) to sell the treaty to the Irish people. It's amazing they got as much of a "Yes" vote as they did. I agree with you on one thing though. Irish people do deserve better...better than Lisbon that's for sure.
lisbontreaty2008 3 years ago
The referendum was a joke; to call it democratic is a debasement of democracy
nallyterrace 3 years ago
Talks about arming europe? and gives 1 line on education - that it should be privatised>! sounds like big business huh?
flanaganja 3 years ago

Bronwaterzzz 3 years ago
Bronwaterzzz.. no is the answer to your question, gordon brown wasn't elected as leader of the labour party and prime minister,he took over when Blair resigned and he promised the british people a referendum which he did not honour....people vote for politicians on the hope that they will do as they promise..as for taking money off american multinationals,i helped to build most of their factories and it has paid a good chunk of my mortgage so yes we like them but they don't own us...
henzoni 3 years ago
You have to admit though henzoni, scaremongering was employed by the No campaigners which was often generalised and misguided. Many people didn't know a single term of the Treaty but still voted against it because of vague warnings like 'Europe's taking over' and 'they're taking away our neutrality'. In co-ordination with a Northern school I carried out a survey on 1000 poltically-motivated 18-24 year olds. Only around 32% of them could name a single term of the treaty. They all intended to vote.
nallyterrace 3 years ago

Irish people don't decide on behalf of my country (or any other for that matter), so we continue ratification and leave the door open, because it's our right.
We gave our ministers and parliaments the right to make decisions on behalf of us, to sign that treaty.

we do not have what you would call a healthy democracy here ! people follow political party's like football teams ,. just like their parents and grandparents did ! if you don't want to accept the democratic will of the people, well then we may have a fight on our hands, by the way our government got relected with 40% of the 40% of voters who actually bothered to turn out and vote ! Does this mean we have to run another general election !!! go on ratify the treaty, see if i give a fuck
