On the 30 Jan 96, 12 Turkish Frogmen Commandos landed on IMIA, which almost led to all out warfare between Greece and Turkey if it were not for US diplomatic intervention.

The last time i checked out Imia was Greek.
The turkish commandos located in the eastern Imia have been tracked by Greek ones located in the western Imia,however turks didnt know that.Greek seals captured the Turks but then they are ordered to release them (betrayal).Greek seals leave the area and after a while a Greek helicopter ckecked out if Turks have abandoned the are,however the Greek helicopter is shooted down and three innocent greeks were killed.

The real truth is that 2 greek seals caught 12 turkish seals and they remained there until they got orders. After many and hard negotiations between greek goverment and the american diplomat Richard Holbrooke, greek seals left the island.
