@Sabbath058 only the combination of drums and the piano makes them special. The drums alone would be random noise, and the piano piece would be quite boring since it's rather repetitive. This is my favorite piece of his whole music.
@Sabbath058 The piano part would be nothing without the "drums", but rather be boring and nothing special. Only the combination of them makes them the brilliant piece of music they are together.
@foobarcow Well, boring to you, but it's pretty interesting from a compositional standpoint, if one listens to piano music often (Chopin, Debussy, or Liszt for instance). For instance, the harmonic embellishments and syncopation at 1:30 are really neat.
Nice vid and concept, but the rendering sucks. It is really distracting how the low-quality shadows around the piano (dis)appear and morph without reason in different frames, while they are a shadow of e a solid, non-moving support. I also saw some parts of the piano disappear at times, but that is a bit less noticable.
Either way, it is a great concept executed with very nice choreography of the piano keys, but in the end, the disappointing rendering makes the video little more than average.
im pretty sure you might be correct, i have searched for this version and no luck. i duno, in the vid description it says click link for HQ download, he is a student, email him he might send you the track?

there you go BITCH DO SOME FUCKIN REASEARCH BEFORE YOU SAY SHIT
Welcome this monstrous 28-track album by producer/composer Benn Jordan -- who appears to have burgled Squarepusher and stolen all his old demos. Ok, that's a little bit harsh, although Tom Jenkisnon's influence is blatantly all consuming on a number of these tracks, however, Jordan has enough character to stamp his identity on a fair majority of what's on offer, whilst his plaigarism is impressively high calibre it must be said.

Does the piano keys moving mean you've figured out the melody? That'd be awesome. I've gotten the first few bars, and then the drillnbass takes over the left hand.
I first found out about this song through the YouTube video 'Dove Evolution' - very, very good, check it out, it's listed a bit of the way down in the 'related videos' list on the right, and it works really powerfully with this song.
In terms of this video, there's something I quite like about the big drumming and rapid red cones coming from the relatively small and gentle piano, but overall the repetitiveness and computer graphics make the video a bit lame. X
...hmmm.a strange idea.aphex twin with classix..never heard that before...(?)...but the animation/video is technically good...change the soundtrack?...good work,alot put in,take it further....?
IDM is a larger genera encompassing Breakcore, I guess maybe this track isn't hard enough to be called breakcore. but what is all this talk of ripoffs?? Is everyone who made rock and roll ripping off elvis or what?
Spin offs only implies that they were inspired by and base their style on said artists, rip offs implies that they do everything they can to copy the musician they are inspired by, and has a very negative connotation.
"a ripoff is a blatant or unscrupulous copy or imitation. In both senses there is an associated verb "to rip off"
"A spinoff is a product deriving elements of design , branding or function from an existing product, but which is itself a new distinct product."
I think the main difference between IDM and breakcore is the melodic factor? I wouldn't know, I'm still new to this type of music... but that's just what I figure from hearing what I have over the years.
In my opinion, IDM just seems to be harder to get a taste for. When I hear the term 'breakcore' it seems that the drums don't necessarily have to be complicated; thus the "Intelligent" in IDM seems to reflect how complex the song is. I don't know this as a fact, it's just my experience.
IDM is a 'wastebin taxon' of sorts. I don't pay much attention to it, people call everything from Kettel to Squarepusher IDM, yet they're as different as it gets. It's just an 'indie rock accepted' term that gets thrown around so indie rock fans can feel like they're listening to something "more" than techno or jungle (music related arrogance, basically, people hate ravers). Now that Burial is getting mainstream recognition, lots of people started calling his stuff IDM. No coincidence, I'd say.
Nice work!

breakcore should never be rendered graphically, as it distracts you from picturing movement more appropriately

so there you go... from the record label itself.
just putting it out there

triforceeternal 3 years ago
no. The piano keys move "randomnly". I played some random melody on my keyboard and recorded the motion via motion capture.
I had to rerecord about 8 times until it really fitted the music - since you ask this question it seems that I achieved the illusion
thanks ;)

Insightful, but I've heard a fair share of technical things in each genre. Although, IDM does tend to be more technical...
