This guy is right on, except when he says the arms can't be trusted. It depends on what he means. If he means forearm rotation can't be trusted, which is what I gather, completely agree. You have to use your arms some in the golf swing, though.
Mr. Ballard teaches a coil into the right leg not a sway. Get his cd's, you swayers and know it alls might learn something. After all ,he studied the greatest swing in golf Mr. Hogan.Remember a good tip from Mr. Ballard" that lots of angles cause problems."
Here is a good exercise, go and check out other sports, tennis, baseball and hockey and etc and see if they don't shift their weight into the set of their leg and get the "tool" to the object! If Nolan Ryan was pitching do you think you would "delay" the hit? If you were squaring an axe upon a tree, what you you get there as fast as you can? the handle or the blade? Its very simple >> Its white and round and its on the ground, >>GET the club head there as fast as you can!!
LOOK that move to the right is the same move in all SPORTS and its the correct motion as long as you don't get out side of your right leg. Good players always keep the club in front of them. It worked for Curtis Strange, Hal Sutton, Jim Dent, Jim Colbert and OH by the way, that's why Gary Player walks now, so when he shifts he walks to get off of his right leg!
This is an excellent lesson. I saw the preview of his Golf Channel Lesson about stepping through on the downswing and thats was the best advice ever on consistantly hitting ball with the iron clubs with out lag
Rocco Mediate holed out for eagle for the fourth straight day, hitting a pitching wedge from 106 metres at the 17th en route to a one-shot victory in the Frys.com Open.
I disagree with that distrubition, thats a sway. Why do it when there is no need? If you keep you hip on the wall and don't laterally move it in your backswing, you won't need to move back in your downswing. This just add's too much to do, keep the swing as simple as possible.
@dbs0212 A sway is getting the weight outside of the right foot, NOT shifting your weight into the right side....Keeping the head still will wrench your back in the long run. Rocco has been on Tour since 1985 for a reason!
@DJMorrisInc when did i say anything about the head? and to the principles that i believe any lateral movement is a sway and is not necessary, however everybody has their own opinions.
I totally agree about the weight distribution throughout the swing, however, if the elbows are "down" this creates an angle of ascent, causing the elbows to have to re-direct (re-route) in the transition or downswing in order to not have an angle of descent.
i agree. i would take the same body motion and incorporate a little more arm rotation. this will result in a better swing path thus more solid and consistent ball striking.
Good Instruction. Go to Gordon James Golf to see how to hit a big drive!

Food for thought...
