Looks like a wonderful puppy...he was very deliberate and careful with his mouth. (You know what I mean if you have a large dog and a smaller dog or other small animal.) Nice to see that the owners monitoring their play stopped the vid and stepped (I assume) in before the dog's playstyle became too rough.
Make a carefull consideration, they can get 80 years old, make a hell of a noise and need a lot of care, attention, space and a special diet. They can be as intelligent as a 4 year old child, and untill puberty (+/- 7 years old) they can be a handfull. Many parrots end up badly being discarded by there owners becase they don't live up to expectations. If you can handle all of this they can be a lot of fun and a welcome part of the family.
@hajoveen Absolutely agree. Although I do take issue with the "4 year old child" part. My Amazon is in her 40's now and is like a teenager. Thinks she knows everything. Acts like she runs the house. Still won't let her have the car, though.
Bird: I need this twig for my bedroom it will complete the scenery of it! Dog: well I need it for my stick collection it will go perfectly into the fifty five others i've taken from you
@FWCASParrotRescue There was nothing aggressive about the dog's behavior... Dogs know not to mess with parrots. And if they do, a bite will remind them who has the switchblade beak in the relationship.
I put ten dollars on the parrot :-) ....but seriously very cute video. I love the part around 3:34 the best! They are both beautiful animals. Is the parrot's wings clipped or he's just trained not to fly away?
@Manny1222 They do however, you can tell from the end the parrot was tryna bite the dog abit and the dog got abit nervous and tried to move the parrot away ;p
OMG this is too cute! It starts off both of them being polite about it, then in the end they both get a little testy with each other.A pair of really beautiful animals. Love that german sheperd!
Aside from that, having a bird out in the kind of wind, without a harness is very dangerous. It does not matter if the bird is clipped or not with such a wind, they can get very far. On top of that, the saliva from dogs and cats is a kind of poison for birds. Allowing them to mouth the same stick like this is not healthy for your macaw.
I'm glad they do so well together, but aggression is not the only reason that birds and cats/dogs should not be playing together.
Thats awesome! Its so sweet how gently and nicely they play together. The german shepherd could have easily just bit the parrot and took off with the stick, and the parrot could have bit the dog and gone off, but instead they played sweetly together which was rly cute :) great vid! Its insanely adorable how they get along!
how did you get them to be able to play together? I just got my dogs to be able to be in the same room with my bird without wanting to eat him. they are slowly coming around but nothing like this. wow!
@MercFriendlyChat Yeah go to exactly 0:30 and see the wings open up. The feathers are trimmed. I used to trim my birds but I refuse to now. It's just unnatural.
I like to see inter-species interaction. It's such a high contrast on the branch of evolution on these 2 in this case. For these animals to meet and interact in a harmonic way means everything is possible.
I'm so relieved both dog and macaw found a place where they can roam around freely and interact with each other in a non violent basis. Good for you and excellent video.
oh my goodness they are both so precious!!!! how sweet is this?! they both have bites that could kill but they are so gentle with each other. the wonders of nature never cease to amaze me.
haha...Elvis wants to regurgitate. I wish my macaw was that cool, instead, he thinks he's the dominant one. check out my vid, my cat put him in his place. ll
@nigapride321 dude altho he may seem to be trolling , my little puppy plays with a tug-o-war toy and his saliva has got on just a few little nicks on my skin, and i immediatly got sepsis the next day because his saliva is so full of bacteria, this is very common and is very bad for birds, so the guy has a point, he never said the people were idiots or anything, he was just informing them of the dangers incase they were not aware, fuck ur a loser, just look at ur name, nigapride? fucn loser
cute, but parrot should not be sharing saliva from the dog on the stick. any avian vet will tell you the bacteria is foreign to the bird's body and totally unhealthy (as well as human saliva). also bird can easily hook the dog's nose with its beak unintentionally and the dog's knee-jerk response is going to a who-knows-what retaliation. like the "Flying Wallendas" of tight-rope fame, teasing death just ONCE too often is all it takes.
How cool is it that - the dog 'knows' how much power is appropriate for its playmate. If it was another dog, it would understandably play a little more 'rough' - but with the bird its nothing more than light nudges and playful pulls of the stick.
Or maybe the Macaw is the one taking it easy on the dog ;D
@d1ks4u If the macaw, or the German Shepard wanted to hurt each other, then it would have happened. Man do I hate Trolls, but boy do I love telling them 'Off. :) I hope your bitterness soon goes away, I don't know a husband or a wife that really wants to put up with that, Hope you don't end up Alone. :)
My German Shepherd chased a squirrel once and once he "caught" it he licked it and it was like "WTF?!?!?!" I called my dog away and after a couple of moments the squirrel carried on his way :) He also used to play with my cat and rat all the time :) The key is socialising them well while young :)
Adorable video...The dog makes me a little melancholy for my late dog Lady who had to be put down after a stroke. Anyway, delightful video! If only human beings could be trained to co-exist so well together:)
This is such an awesome video! I could have watched them together for hours! You are obviously wonderful people to have such wonderful animals. Best, Curt
@jonesjamie LOL Agressive bird...You have never been around a aggressive macaw have you.It puffin it's wings out for balance when it's trying to get the stick off the dog..If it wanted to that bird could send that dog running. that beak can remove a good portion of that snout in one quick snap.
Oh please, if the Macaw was agressive, the dog would have been hurt ,,, bad, they have the power in that beak to take a human finger off.. I really dislike trolls on youtube can't we just enjoy what people share!
Really people, German Shepherds are one of the BEST dogs you can have...if this dog wanted the bird harmed or dead...would have done it instantly...no playing around about it...yay for the people who engage their animals instead of locking them in a cage or house all day!!
Thanks for all you positve and sometimes mixed reactions. I will try to answer a few questions. All our animals, a 42 year old Cockatoo, a Newfoundlander, our 5 cats, Elvis and Summer get on well. There is a ranking amongst them and when and if they are playing all have mutual respect for oneanother. At no time there as ever been a precarious situation amongst them. We take the parrots and the dogs for a walk through the woods twice every day.
It thought the dog had the stick and was hidding it. Pecked the dogs face and the shep flinched to defend itself. bird found another stck and walked off dog got up and followed cause it wanted the new stick. Bird got defensive and poked out its wings.
It really is amazing to see how close these two are and how gentle they are with each other. Even taking into consideration their little spat at the end. I'm assuming that your Shepard has known it since it was a puppy.
@ickybird -- I don't think that's the correct interpretation of the dog's body language, personally. If he grew up with the bird, he's likely to respect the bird, regardless of size. Also, he just wants to play. I've seen those mannerisms in my larger dog--he's concentrating on having fun while not hurting the smaller animal.
That dog is still a pup. He has given the bird a couple of looks like he is sizing him up. If they keep this up as the dog gets older, he will attack the bird.
@ickybird ur such a dumbass, ur probably basing it on ur own experience with dogs? hey guess what... just because someones brother murdered a family does not mean all brothers are murderers, u dickless faggot. god theres some stupid fucks i have to put up with on this forsaken rock.
