  • This song sucks. even the riff doesn't save it

  • Similar riff and a chorus pedal. as a Nirvana fan ill take that into consideration...Come as you are is still a better song. life goes on

  • @Tysblueax so what ?

  • @nierealnaKOLABORACJA thats my point...so what

  • lmao this band sucks dick fuck all you who like this

  • @smoothgerable The fuck are you doing here then?

  • thumps if nirvana brought you here

  • eh if cobain/nirvana were sued for every riff they ripped off greg sage would likely benefit the most

  • Its rock and rolls version of sampling. Only they outright steal and pay no sampling rights and say "youre obscure - never heard of ya." Kinda like what Led Zeppelin did to Howlin Wolf and Sonny Boy Williamson and Ritchie Valens or George Harrison did to The Chiffons or The Beach Boys did to Chuck Berry etc etc etc

  • Love this song but the whole 'who stole from who' thing is getting old. Nirvana knew the riff for "Come As You Are" sounded similar, they never tried to hide that.

Killing Joke did complain about the riff but, for whatever ever reason, they never pursued it. Sad thing is that it doesn't stop here. The riff for "Eighties" is similar to The Damned "Life Goes On"

I'm not a huge fan of Nirvana but this whole, silly argument needs to die. Just my opinion.

  • I like Nirvana. But Eighties so much better than Come as you are

  • better than the nirvana version

  • Listen the song: Damned - Life goes on...is a similar bass line

  • incredible!!!

  • I agree that the riff is so straight foward it could have just been coincidense, I think however Killing Joke might have been a bit annoyed at how similar the guitar SOUND is, both have that reverby/chorus effect. I like both songs though.

To be perfectly honest, this song sounds alot like a Clash tune, if you start pointing the finger here and there, you could go on for ever!

  • Sounds to me like Killing Joke ripped of Polices "Synchronicity" long before nirvana did.

  • love both band but hwen you think about it... theres only so many chords ... so many progressions .... so many riffs .... since rock n roll was born it was only a matter of time before bands and artists started rippin each other off ... intentional or not.... if you dont beleive me search it theres a few vids on here showing more than a few riffs with life 50 diff lyrics ...

  • who cares, this song sucks, the other is much better.

  • @jo0k i take it your joking (no pun indended)

  • Yup. And Killing Joke nicked it from the Damned's "Life Goes On". So there ;-p

  • nirvana and killing joke are really different, the first is in the punk move, the second in the imitation move, long life to killing joke!

  • i don't like it when bands try to enforce copyright infringement... it's a good thing that someone copy's or draws from u as an inspiration.. all musicians do it without even thinking it.... that is why the public is interested in hearing about who the influences are.. of our fav musicians.. so when a band tries to somehow recoup on this..i lose respect for them

  • This song is a joke. Sure, they had a good riff, but they ruined it with the rest of the music and lyrics. It's like an artist took a nice piece of clay and sculpted a giant piece of shit. Nirvana made an actual work of art.

  • @Malumbrus That's just Killing Joke's style. Killing Joke and Nirvana are two complete different subgenres, it understandable that you don't like this more upbeat punk-ish song as opposed to the grungy Come As You Are. Nonetheless, both ARE art, they ARE music.

  • @Malumbrus That's an over-reaching statement, innit? I mean, that's like saying Van Gogh made a relatively minor piece of art better by just copying SOME of it. Come on, man. KJ influenced Nirvana and Nirvana in turn ripped them off on this one. This is coming from a Nirvana fan that cut his teeth on their songs when he first learned to play guitar..... so no offense to you at all. Just stating an opinion I guess.

  • Yes, the riff from "eighties" is clearly inspired by "life goes on" by the Damned

BUT cobain went on record to say they took the riff from Killing Joke NOT The Damned which is why they were considering suing Nirvana and "come as you are" was a commercial success where "Eighties" wasn't.

For the record, Killing Joke were far more talented and influential than Nirvana or The Damned.

  • @WolfgangVonPoserkila dude your saying its ok to ripp something off but someone else can't rip off what you already ripped? u r fucked in the head!

  • @johnkiedis27 lol you're the one fucked in the head dipshit.

I didnt say its ok for one person to rip something off and not another. If the Damned wanted to sue Killing Joke I wouldnt argue.

All I implied was that Killing Joke are far better than the other 2 bands and Nirvana suck you clueless dope.

  • @WolfgangVonPoserkila and that is your OPINION

  • @WolfgangVonPoserkila Killing Joke is far more influential than Nirvana, thats why no one has heard of Killing Joke and everyone knows Nirvana as the band that changed music

  • @Hotice770 Plenty of people have heard of Killing Joke. Just not dipshits like you who only listen to artists that are in Rolling Stone. Eat my discharge you worthless sack of festering manure.

  • Comment removed

  • @WolfgangVonPoserkila God I fucking hate hipsters like you who think they're cool because they pretend to hate everything mainstream and like bands no one cares about. You're not special, you're not original, you're unique or cool because you like bands people haven't heard of you stupid fucking hipster. You're just as much a cliche as mainstream shit out today.

  • @Hotice770 Yes I'm a cliche and I'm sure if I'm a cliche you know exactly what music I listen to? You fucking moron. Anyone that gives Nirvana credit, usually doesn't know enough about the 80's scene that they ripped off.

There was nothing special about Nirvana. Half the reason they got big was because people were sick to fuckin death of poodle bands and wanted ANYTHING else which was different, accessible and rocked.

  • @WolfgangVonPoserkila Sounds like you're jealous of their success. And yeah, you fucking dumbass hipster. I clicked on your profile. Not only that but you're talking like a classic hipster asshole "I'm so much cooler because I like bands that weren't famous. Nirvana sucks because they're so mainstream! I only like bands that aren't mainstream". Give me a fucking break.

  • Esta compuesto por diferentes compases que come as you are????

  • You should have sued those asses, Killing Joke. Nirvana is overrated shit altogether.

  • @JackBandicootsBunker dude K.J didn't have a leg 2 stand on when its comes to this riff, they stole it from The Damned 'life goes on'. listen 2 it and you'll see bro. I would say thats why the never pursued it. bit hard to say someone ripped you off if you lifted it from somwhere else

  • @johnkiedis27 They didnt pursue the case out of sympathy because Cobain had just died. They had a case because cobain went on record saying he took the riff from KJ.

Know what you're talking about before you spout shit. You are an idiot.

  • @WolfgangVonPoserkila i just think its ironic to want to sue something for a riff that wasn't originally theirs to begin with. regardless of whether kurt said he got it from them. if anyone should have sued it should have been the damned, sue them both. Btw where did he ever on on record? its in his journals and mangers have said that he was conserned 2 release as single cos of the similarty but i don't think thats on record? Point is K.J had no reason 2 be pissed.

  • The riff in the beginning sounds the same, but the vocals are completely different so to me it's not enough to say Nirvana ripped these guys off.

  • Killing Joke is a bunch of fucks. They tried sueing Nirvana for stealing "their riff" in Come As You Are when its clear that Killing Joke just ripped off The Damned.

  • Nobodies read Kurt Cobain Journals? he says that come as you are is the same riff as this song, but he never says they stole it or that he stole it. And he clearly wasn't upset or mad about it. So just enjoy the song.

  • Man how amazing would it have been to have lived in London or Berlin in the 80's!!!?? It would have been the shit, that's what.

  • This track is awesome!!New favorite song.

  • Kurt's Death was a Killing Joke

  • @Tomhixs you know what Kurt said before he pulled the trigger? "Hole's gonna be really big"

  • It's a coincidense, it's such a simple riff.

  • @DanManThePurple Kurt was a huge Killing Joke fan

  • @DanManThePurple no way...

  • AYE TEES

    MURN NANANAHANHNAHAHANANANA

  • come as you are

  • yeh I know the song from about 3 days and it is fucking CLASSIC for me xD I mean I cant imagine what rock-mans must felt back then (in the 80's), while listening this.... And guitars...!!!! Lawl song! But still (=|F) Fear Factory rocks

  • I like this song... It KINDA sounds like Come As You Are, although in a totally different tempo. Who cares? They're both equally awesome songs. THIS one is more equal, though... In my opinion.

  • @jhamler1 : Also check "Life Goes On" by The Damned.

  • snooze, you lose

  • The Ric...

  • wtf ? come as u are - nirvana ?

  • 3 people were not born in the eighties

  • I watched this and it sounds like Come As You Are... I don't think they did that on purpose, and the songs are different... Who cares?

  • @gravityvertigo13579 dude "life goes on" by the damned predates both songs.

  • dam dam dam COME AS YOU ARE!!!!

  • its as similar to come as you are as both are similar to the damned life goes on

  • Kurt himself admitted that this band was very inspirational to him. The thing is, bands rip each other off all the time. Imitation is a sincere form of flattery.

Oh, and this song is fucking great. I think they do the rift better (and Nirvana is my favorite band!).

  • Thumbs up if you remember this as the themesong from the prematurely killed "That 80s Show"

  • Yeah so both songs use like four of the same notes. Big fucking deal, the riffs differ slightly so they're not the same.

  • i came here cause i hear nirvana copied this. not at all

  • @SoDamnBionic So true! Maybe the guitar sound thats all. You could tell they are completely different.

  • Personally, this is better than Nirvana

  • I like this song :)

  • @EdwardJacobDiggory17 I know me too. Sucks how everyone connects it to Nirvana.

  • Well, look at that. Apparently Nirvana "stole" this riff from Killing Joke, and Killing Joke STOLE this riff from the Damned...Check the Damned "Life Goes On"...Killing Joke? lol, they're the fucking joke, cocksuckers, sue Nirvana when they actually stole the riff, fucking useless faggots.

  • Nirvana changed music forever. PERIOD. Nirvana's impact on music will always outwiegh Killing jokes lack of. MTV was around while this band was active . They were offorded that same opportuinities as Nirvana, they just weren't good enough, they couldn't hack it. As if Alternative rock was any larger in 1991 versus 1984? Nirvana brought Alternative rock to the mainstream. The riffs are similiar, that's fine. Nirvana still wrote better songs and were just much more important to rock history.

  • @submissivelover exactly man, Kurt Cobain changed music, and what it can be. he didnt need the media or and one to help him get famous. He did it all by him self with his voice, songwriting, guitar playing,. There wont ever be another person nearly close to Kurt. This only happens once in a life time, and the riff sounds "Similar" not the exact same riff, the killing joke are nothing but a joke.... just cause there similar riff got made into some called "music" not this bullshit "eighties"

  • @thelastkoda Exactly, and the funniest part is that the "Eighties" riff was stolen from a song by the damned called "Life Goes On". So these pieces of shit Killing Joke have ZERO argument. Besides, Come as you are is a way better song. Nirvana's impact is undeniable. Killing Jokes Impact is TOTALLY debatable. I doubt they had one, just another shit post-punk band, a bunch of nobodies with nothing Original to introduce, the fact that Killing Joke stole this riff cements that lack of originality.

  • @submissivelover come as you are,, is my favorite song by nirvana, and i dont think hte killing joke should make a big deal, bands use similar riffs from other bands all the time, the killing joke should be at least happy that there similar riff got turned into a good song, from the greatest album ever made "Nevermind"

  • @thelastkoda Best album ever? Reading that made me sick. For starters, THIS album kills Nevermind. And there are even greater albums than that. Educate yourself, and don't ever say anythin by Nirvana is "the best," you'll be laughed out of any building. Fuck Nirvana, and fuck their so-called "music."

  • @Shaunography Actually, critically speaking, Nevermind is revered as one of the greatest rock albums ever.

  • @Shaunography Take it easy there. Nevermind IS a great album. Just because it's more accessible than Killing Joke doesn't make it a turd. Though, I must admit... THIS song kicks the living shit out of anything Nirvana ever did. :)

  • @jhamler1 no

  • @jhamler1 Really? This mindless dribble? It stayed where it belonged. Nowhere.

  • @jhamler1 in your opinion

  • @Shaunography fuck you, both are great stop such an arrogant fuckwit

  • Weird Science!

  • so this is where come as you are comes from

  • I can hear the riff similarity but Come as you are is way slower and they are clearly different in the vocals. Come as you are sounds more tight and has a completely different mood to it.

  • Nirvana clearly has many more fans than this band but hey, who am I to judge. Histrory cannot be changed without a time machine. So go invest your money and try to break the law of physics because Stephen Hawkings says you can only go forward. Thats what you guys need to do, and I agree this version is not bad. I never listened to this song because I didn't know these guys were ripped by Nirvana. After hearing from someone saying Nirvana has easy riffs/rythm and solos played on 2 strings, C.K.C

  • @Jeroshio1 Hawking, you genius.

  • killing joke suck

  • 'cus it ain't viveo...fuck that shit.

  • hey yeah i notice how the chord progression's the same as that song!

  • I think this song and Come as You Are are both pretty good. Sure, Kurt's riff is basically the same, but they're both very differently constructed. So just because one part of a song sounds like one part of another song, doesn't mean it's a rip off. I mean, that shit happens constantly. Anyways, I like both songs.

  • @IntergalacticFetus99 now every song is copied from others... wont tell names lol

i think come as you are is better, but both songs are good. this song sounds punk.

  • FUN FACT: apparently there's also a song by the Damned that Killing Joke kinda stole. still doesn't do Kurt any justice!!!! HAHAHAHA.... r.i.p. :[

  • i knew this place were going to be full of stupid pathetic nirvana posers coming to talk about the riff

    god

    u all make me sick

  • @Asofiro, so what if they wrote the same kind of riffs? It's slightly diffirent...Killing Joke probably only sued becaue they didn't make enough as a band. Nirvana was a far better band.

  • lithuim and eighties are great tunes and both are great tunes and nirvana and killing joke are exellent bands rock will eat itself ya know...

  • Even funnier fact is that "Eighties" reminds of "Life Goes On" by The Damned, the song released 2 years earlier if I'm not mistaken.

  • This song makes Nirvana look like soft emo rock.

  • This song was my anthem in high school back in the EIGHTIES!! I was livin in the 80's!!!!

  • The Damned did it first so this petty argument dosen't matter. All three songs are great and so are all three bands.

  • personally, i dont think it was really stolen, while it is technically, i just think that what kurt did with the riff changed up from upbeat punk, to more of a mellow tone changed it a lot.

    and nirvana isn't overrated.

  • An iconic song from a once great postpunk band.:)

  • Such as simple riff!!!!! Anyone could make it! I believe there was no stealing. Who cares. I hear covers everyday on the radio. Who´s to tell you what chords you can and cant strum? Thats insane. ALSO..... two completely different songs lyrically.

  • Wow...this is awesome! And yeah, of course come as you are sounds alot like this, but they're both great songs, so I don't care!

  • Regardless of the whole riff stealing shit, I love both versions.

  • @shanedude13 there are three. killing joke lifted this off the damned "life goes on"

  • i've already said this in other videos but how do you actually know that nirvana intentionally steal a riff for personal gain? such a knee jerk reaction when you hear a song that sounded alike, a lot of songs sound similar, it's not really that big of a deal if you're in a band you'd know. I'm a big fan of both bands but what killing joke did was a douche move, they're all douches fuck 'em but they're great musicians/artists but yeah kj were the bigger douches.

  • Ya, Nirvana "borrowed" the riff for come as you are, but killing joke is hypocritical to complain because they stole this riff from life goes on by the damned. I always thought come as you are was a better song anyway, but that's just me.

  • i didn't even know who killing joke were until i read something about come as you are - if anything Nirvana did them a favor.

  • I never said that every note of kurts was original but still, hands down.

  • @rhcpandsum41 Nevermind was released September 24th 1991. There next cd Incesticide a compilation of b-sides, demos, & covers was released in 92 & how the fuck do get idea that I like to make fun of myself from my correct knowledgeable post. With a shit mall punk band like Sum 41 in your screen name, who are you to put down a legendary band like Nirvana?

  • fun fact: you are funny eighteen

  • @leecooper9911 Wut?

  • stolen by nirvana....you are crazy man. you can prove it?

    total idot

  • Push! Struggle! Aghhh!!

  • @gobime04 Why are you watching this then? So you can troll about Killing Joke? Get a life before you start commenting negative comments on other people's videos.

  • wow that song just beat come as you are in my personal favourite song list

  • Life Goes On

  • nirvana sucks and the only reason ppl like them is because cobain died

  • @thesaminalx have some kida to agree even if im a nirvana fan its fucking true

  • @thesaminalx They have one song I like, "Sliver", but the rest I don't care for.

  • @thesaminalx crazy how they a huge fan base before he died

  • Comment removed

  • Come As You Are was on Nevermind released in 91 so Come As You Are didnt come out in 92 like the poster states in the description. Although the song wasnt a hit/single until 92 but still I hate it when people post wrong information.

  • @ministerofhate do you like to make fun of yourself? nevermind was released in 92.

and even if it was, nirvana is sooooooooooooooo overrated, there's bands way better than them, instrumentally, vocally and lyrically...

  • This is REAL ALTERNATIVE music unlike that white trash pop culture grunge crap.

  • Fuck you haryjonson. Killing Joke has a very big devoted fan base. They love all there songs. And Eighties ain't no big deal because they have so much good material that they made during, before and after and still continue to kick ass. So fuck you haryjonson, what the fuck do you know about Killing Joke!!!

  • oooooo : )

  • i think they should be happy that nirvana stole their riff because thats the only reason alot of people have listened to this song

  • Hey, i rather listen to this song then to "Come as you are", this song makes me happy and speeded up, while Come as you are makes me deppresive and bored

No offence to other Nirvana song, but "come as you are" arent my favorite

  • @haryjonson You think? How'd you come to that conclusion?

  • Nirvana stole this riff sorta. but who cares, the song is good.

  • When I first heard this song I was like "This SOOOO sounds like Nirvana!"

  • nirvana SOOOO sounds like this!

  • They were brilliant and obviously the original - so many songs over the decades have been obvious copies/make-overs (if only partially) of earlier tracks.

  • I've never been a fan of Nirvana but I'm not gonna say they blow. Too many people love them to say that. Overrated? yep. Timing is everything.

  • THANKYOU!!!!

  • @honuman39 they are not over rated, sure they copied a few riffs, but songs like Sappy, Pennyroyal tea, and Heart shaped box are songs that stand the test of time, and they have many many other songs that touch the soul of fans, Im only 16 and got into Nirvana a few years ago, at the end of time everyone will know who Kurt Cobain is and not killing joke, so they are not over rated, infact they are the greatest band of all time, I can prove that to you, but u prolly dont even want to listen to em

  • @honuman39 Overrated? nope. they are worth every good thing anyones ever said!

  • @honuman39 They never blew because they put more of a dent into history in 5-6 years then this band that has been out way longer, Same as pearl jam Alicein chains and lots of other bands.

And don't say pearl jam is better than nirvana ten was their only good album, Assholes.

  • @honuman39

Nirvana IS overrated and I am a big fan of that band. But it's true. Nirvana IS overrated. But I think they deserve their fame. Kurt Cobain may not have made the best music nor was he the best musician, but he and his friends did some fine work together while it lasted. Perhaps that's all we could have ever asked for. Just some cool music to bump, if you will, over the years. People still rock out to that shit today.

As I see it, Kurt Cobain isn't dead. His memory lives.

  • @honuman39

Nirvana had a ton of feel and emotion, that makes them timeless. Check out their demo sessions and the Peel Sessions. When producers knew to leave their sound alone Nirvana was great.

I do not think them homaging this song should damn them, especially seeing as they sound so different that TKJ, who is also amazing. I believe the members of Nirvana and TKJ got/get along well.

  • @chukmaty No it was pretty much a ripoff. Lawsuits got called in and that's way Dave Grohl, who is a fan of KJ, drummed for their 2003 album, to payoff "the damage". That said I don't disrespect Nirvana. I do think that they are a bit overrated though. They are good, but I can think of better bands (Alice In Chains, The Melvins, Pearl Jam) that deserve far more credit.

  • Comment removed

  • @gazz12345a: That's quite the straw-man argument. There are plenty of bands that have all of those things - good-looking lead, money, and exposure - and yet fade into oblivion after 2-3 years.

Nirvana is engrained in American popular culture. They obviously had much more than you give them credit for.

  • @Nero50Z Or, considering post-Nevermind material, a lot of people with no taste at all glomming onto the bandwagon. Their output went to shit after that album.

  • @jmatts78: That's mostly a matter of opinion.

Many critics and fans alike would say the opposite - that Nevermind was overproduced and overly commercial. I don't know if I'd say that myself, but each Nirvana album (including MTV unplugged) has its own unique strengths and weaknesses.

  • @honuman39 fuck u bitch

  • this song blows major dick

  • too fucking right!
