@STFUbelgium Thanks for the compliments and advice. I really would like to have my Sarracenia pitchers stand up like they should. I'll try what you said when they resume growing this spring.
i rescue carnivorous plants from lowes all the time can you believe they put those poor things in the darkest places imaginable? i always keep a light on over my plants.
Yeah, they treat them like they aren't even living organisms, and then expect top prices for them. Most of them that I've ever seen in Lowe's or Walmart need to be on clearance a day after thy arrive from the nursery.
- If you want to start growing CP's such as Sarracenia, try a Yellow Trumpet, (Sarracenia Flava). This species grows really fast. Visit Sarracenia Northwest, which is the best online grower out there. i get all of my plants from their site.
That is so cool! I never 'got into' carnivorous plants...I've seen far to many horror movies and read books where the plant grows and grows and eventually eats its owner! You are very brave!
very nice plants but I highly reccomend atleast for the venusflytrap. I cannot give the exact reasons but pirrahnahboy01 says it will ultimately kill your plants.
oh Im sorry that message of mine made pretty much no sense. What I ment to say is the standing water (the water tray) will make a build up of minerals and stuff. Pirrahanahboy01 is an expert so ever since I heard that I took all of my plants out of their water trays wich is kinda a pain because water will still drips when I bring them in atnight.
Oh, now I get it. Yeah, Sarracenia Northwest says that is why you should use mineral-free water, and change the soil once a year. That's what I've been doing, and my plants are fine. :)
Sarracenia Northwest says you can use tap water if you're in a pinch, but I've never used tap water on any of my CPs. I think I'll keep it that way too. Thanks! :)
I've grown some Carnivorous Plants...Sundews, Pitchers, and Venus flytraps. I'm growing them from seeds. They're tiny and still in their terrarium, but hopefully they'll be growing big soon.
Woa. Cool. Massive undertaking! I sprouted some Venus' Flytrap seeds once, but the seedlings didn't last. You will be very proud of those seedlings if they make it to maturity!
I have saved a few plants. My biggest success was D. capensis and my sarracenia. I also saved an N. ventrata. Your plants aren't looking too bad as well, great job.

Very nice collection! Keep it up.
Try to rope together your sarracenia pitchers if they fall down, it will help them grow straight :)
Try producing venus fly trap seeds, if 2 of your plants might have a flower at the same time,
And another thing... A flower on a sarracenia? Nice! Pretty rare, you know! ;D
A beautiful, healthy, happy collection. ;)

I'm thinking about getting one of these, I want your opinion. Should I get a Sundew, A Venus Flytrap, or a Pither Plant?
CHERIEISBALLIN 3 years ago
Get a Purple Pitcher plant. That was the first successful carnivorous plant I ever had. They grow pretty fast, and are forgiving of most mistakes.

Tap water will kill them, use rain or distilled water ONLY.

Thanks! I lost my best S. purpurea last winter to a fungal infection. But I still have two left, and one looks to be my new 'star'.
