Everyone that I've gotten to watch it with me has absolutely LOVED it as well! It's a brilliant story and was well animated, I don't see how anyone wouldn't like it. :)

I just hope the second season will do justice to the original. As for tolerating something, as long as it has a good story, I can tolerate ANYTHING :P

The anime production company Gonzo announced bankrupcy two years ago, if my memory is correct. It didn't stop producing anime at once, but I think it withdraws from the mainstream anime production now.... Pity that it produced some really good stuff like Last Exile. I haven't followed up with Gonzo's current situation, so I don't really know how things are going with them now.

But this is my all-time favorite anime. All the characters are amazing, and the art for this is simply beautiful.

EDIT : A book only in japanese says he was picked up by a guild ship, and a piece of official artwork depicts someone in a guild uniform on the farm waving from just off screen so we can only see his right side waving to everyone, and everyone excited to see the person.

According Wikipedia he is alive... but in the anime nobody says anything and I hate them for that, because Claus saw Dio crash on the clouds and he didn't say anything, at least: No, Dio !!!! and at the end, nobody ask for him: What happened to Dio? Where is Dio? ....nothing !!!! I liked the anime, but I hate the end for that. By the way, Dio was my favorite character.... my poor Dio :(

I know how you feel. Dio was my favorite character too and I hated to see him get "blown away." However, if you watch that part of the episode again, you will see that Dio's vanship knocks Claus and Lavie's vanship into a layer of clouds where they can't see him, so they have no idea that he gets blown away.

Dios soul was "killed", so he would have never be his own self again, and he became almost insane. It was better for him, even tough he was my fav as well, but they say that no one from the Guild survived, meaning he died as well. And it is obvious that you die if you fall from the sky.... poor Dio...but he died by the time of the Oth taking ceremony on the inside anyway....
