  • it's may be successful but i'd never(NEVER!) want to live in a world where all the languages, which are a big part of a civilization's identity, disappeared. We should pick one to be the world's official one..but there's already english so i don't see why we should take a new one.

  • @Margalus89 because of what @gekkouka15 said "1.some culture are so proud of their language (example: japanese, french, chinese)" and some countries are proud of their culture so they don't want another country to be the one with the language

  • @summer9380 that's not about the culture but i think it's more about dumb hyper-conservative people..sharing is always a good experience when it comes to something that can enrich others life ;)

  • @Margalus89 wel... yeh... i agree but i couldn't find words to express this without sounding like a douche. LOL. I love different languages but I'm also glad English is the lang most people know since it's easier for me. Although I often feel annoyed.. well jealous I mean.. I don't know other languages as well as many people know my mother tounge. :S

  • @summer9380 yeah i know what you mean but if someone wants to learn italian it's a good thing to me. i mean, it's like when you like a band and don't wanna tell your friends 'cause it's "yours" ..that's just stupid because that way you're not supporting your band. if you're jealous about your language you're not supporting it and if anyone did that way your language would die. it's a paradox :)

anyway you're lucky also cause if the main lang of the world was italian you all would be fucked xD

  • Maybe it is a failed idea, but it was successful for me. I was struggling with Russian and German and English and Italian before I just had to take a language test for graduation, so I put some effort into Esperanto. They said it will be less difficult then the others. And yeah, before I couldn't pass a base level exam, now in Esperanto instead of the required medium level exam, I could take the professional level after a year of hard work. But after that for my surprise English became easy too.

  • I predict by the 31st century everybody off the face of the earth will speak Esperanto

  • Wow, I had no idea a new language existed. It does sound a lot like Spanish, but it has Germanic and Slavic influence too apparently.

  • seriously,i think this esperanto language wont work as a International languages because :-

1.some culture are so proud of their language (example: japanese, french, chinese)

2.espranto somehow sound similar like Spanish and changing your society language into espranto language makes you feel like your society is being Colonize by spanish....i'm just saying

3.If esperanto claim to be the easiest language there are so many other easy languages to learn which might somehow be more useful in life

  • @Gekkouka15 Interesting. Tell me, what other languages are easy to learn?

  • @Gekkouka15 I speak Spanish and i tell you: the esperanto sounds like Italian lenguaje. the reason is because it comes mostly from the Latin language. Why not learn Esperanto? is easy, fast, flexible and less complicated than learn English. it may even keep your tongue and speak Esperanto too. look the esperanto like a key that can open the door to understanding with all the world. if you want to learn it would take less than a year.

  • Is that Mario Hugo from 31 Minutos?

  • I don't think it should be a national language, but the united nations should definitely talk in Esperanto. It would save time and money spent on interpreters. Esperanto will definitely be one of my kids languages, before they go to kindergarten, like a friend of mine is.

  • @shootanputan

That contradicts the goal of Esperanto. It's not supposed to have ties to any nationality. It should be spoken by everyone, however.

  • this is defidently going on my presentation about esperanto!

  • What did that puppet say at 0:35? Listen real closely.

  • @Konsept0 I think the puppet at 0.35 says "**** this!" Well spotted!!! :-)

  • @Kwekwe no, it doesn't say "f u c k this!"

it says "fakte" (in fact, de hecho, en fait...), the adverb of fakto = fact.

It would be as "factly" in English.

  • i don't speak esperanto but I am fluent in French, Spanish, and English. Why does Esperanto sound so "Spanish heavy." Maybe it is just the accent.

  • @chocolatedonut31 Zamenhoff wanted Esperanto do sound like Italian. Maybe the accent turned a Italian-like sound to a Spanish-like one.

  • @chocolatedonut31

Anyone can speak it with any accent, there is no set standard and most tend to speak with one which is similar to the one they speak or whichever they feel sounds the most comfortable to them. It is also heavily based on Latin languages [Also Germanic (German and English primarily) with a bit of Slavic in it] so one will definitely notice a correlation between the language and use of Romantic accents.

  • FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUU

  • Considering about 2 million people speak Esperanto, I don't think it's a failed idea; I'd call it a successful language.

  • @bacofishtaco It's considered "failed" because Dr. Zamenhov created Esperanto to make a universal language; A language the whole world would speak. He thought this would bring everyone together, but the truth is, countries want to keep their languages, it's a part of identity and culture. The language itself didn't fail, but I guess you could say Dr. Zamenhov failed.

  • Sounds a lot like Spanish. What the hell?

  • Esperanto is cool, but you should hae put static subtitles, so we can understand better :)

great video, btw, I am shure you've worked hard for this; if this was a school project, you will shurley get an A!

this is anything but FAIL, love that, now I'm going to read the description, thanks ^_^

  • La elparolado estas terura!

  • Similas al mia...

  • sounds a lot like spanish to me.. spanish, romanian, italian and french, all of them mixed. Yes, it does sound latin ( And I love it ! Well, My people are 100% latin, so I guess it just sounds familiar )

  • The grammar and pronunciation errors hurt my ears :(

  • i don't like esperanto, it's to latin. i like germanic languages more.

  • I think every country in the whole world should make Esperanto its official language.

  • @shootanputan Esperanto isn't supposed to replace national languages. It would be nice though if every country had Esperanto as an official second language.

  • @purplemutantas I like the idea but think that the implementation of this language as international language will led to the extinction of many languagesaround the world.Small countrys with small maket will make there music, filmes, news etc...all in Esperanto so they can sell it to the world and have a bigger audiencie. Then emigrantes go the does countrys and prefer always to learn Esperanto and not the first language of the country!

  • @ML678v Well... That happens now with English...

The idea of esperantists is to have Esperanto as a second language, only to speak with people which does not speak your language. That's why this is an "inter-national" language, not an universal one, as some people thinks.

And people who already speaks two languages can more easily learn other languages, so it's possible that those people would learn the native language of the country where they go, if they decide to emigrate.

    Amike

  • @shootanputan I wouldn't it would be butchered even more than it is now with all the people speaking it with American accents when it is supposed to be spoken like Slavic languages.

  • wow i speak spanish as a second language and it is very simmilar. i could understand most of it

  • That is the beauty of Esperanto. I speak English and French and could make out most words before I started learning Esperanto. It is quite remarkable in that way.

  • kakakakakakakaa

I did'nt pay closer atention... but

    the pronuciation sucks there

    ....

    The right pronunciation would be...

    saLUton! mia NOmo EStas Roberto!

saLUton Roberto! Mi EStas ProfeSoro espeRANto!

    ANkaux... no anKAUX...kakak

every word in esperanto the strong part isn't the last one... but the one before the last...

  • o n´amie esperanto, o mente cue l´e lango stupida... ni ente enple Nomo, ci lango o scrive do...

  • :-(

  • well, I think I'll start with Esperando rather then Spanish.

Is so simple for me, well it will be then the 6th Language

    is Sooooooooooooo, funny

    Mi estas ... malsana ayayaiiiiiiii

  • Gxi placxas al mi via posxto. Esperanto estas tre amuza. Mi sxatas gxin. :)

  • hahhaha, very funny : D

    I like how esperanto sounds!

There are some mistakes in the grammar,

but they make it funnier XD

  • ouch i learned nothing professoro esperanto

  • Looks like Italian or even Portuguese, I was able to understand a few words

  • LOL

  • ĝi estas tre amuza ^_^

  • Tre bone, dankon! :)

  • es ccomo el italiano

  • no se parece mas al espanol o portugues..:S

  • Mia Dio, tiel mi ploros :S

  • Lojban is better.

  • I find it funny that as I write this, this is one of the lesser rated comments on the entire page :P. Haven't given Lojban a try yet, but I've been meaning to, but sadly it hasn't quite the speaker-base that Esperanto has, but anything could change.

  • Lojban is hard to speak. I think it was originally created as a computer language, so although it can function like any other full-fledged spoken language, the number of particles and word endings gets complicated =( I like Esperanto better =)

  • Mmm, yeah I had a look into it and it seems to be a logic-based language... Maybe good for mathematicians and scientists, but I would regard Esperanto as the quick and easy 'art' language :) (for people who just want to speak and don't like thinking about it :D). That said I think they both have places in communication, just different places..

  • Dude, Lojban's so fucked up and difficult.

  • No, Esperanto is NOT a failed idea!

    Quite the contrary!

  • hahaha

    estas afabla x'D

  • where can i learn esperanto, I'm mexican would it be easier?

  • Try lernu (dot) net

  • Mi volas kisi vin

  • What about trying to actually learn esperanto before trying to teach it?

    you actually suck

  • If you had read the description, you would know that this video is not serious.

  • Hey, Urdu started out as a 'fake' language and that's doing well. The sock at the end made me feel dirty though.....

  • It sonds like a russian speaking italian.

  • That's pretty close. Many words do sound similar to Italian. The reason for this is that Professor thought Italian is the best sounding language of all. Thus, every noun in Esperanto ends with letter O. The phonetic system was taken from Slavic languages as the easiest way to pronounce words. The result might sound close to the hybrid of Russian and Italian. Wonderful language.

  • the inventor of Esperanto was a Jew (named Elieser Samenhof) living in Poland, at that time a part of Russia (late 19th century) so that explains some. and the rest DrBurdock explained perfectly.

  • I spoke english (or I tried) during the three last weeks during a travel in United States. What a difficulty it was for me to know the right way to pronounce words (above all letters "i", "ea", "e"). Never the same pronunciation ! How it would have been easier for me to use esperanto and its constant rules of pronunciation !

More I use esperanto more I understand how it simplifies international communications.

  • I agree.

  • "What is the gold?" I'd say it's Black Hills.

  • So what's the point of Esperanto then?

  • For people who don't speak the same native language to talk to each other in a simple secondary language that's easy to pick up.

  • It's a language.

What do you think what languages are good for?

  • It sounds rather Italiano.

  • It is esperanto, but terrible accents, 90 percent wrong, which is very hard to achieve in esperanto! Xsajnas ke vin instruis iu duonsorda tute ne muzikeca persono. Ne parolu plu publike, unue lernu la proprajn akcentojn.

    terure!

  • nevenretro:

We aimed to do the impossible: speak Esperanto very badly! ;)

  • well, you achieved the disastrous effect. I hope you're happy now

  • Oh, definitely. I never thought talking socks would ruin Esperanto for everyone. That's an accomplishment to be proud of!

Thanks for your critical thoughts. Feel free to write as much as you like about the video. I'm having fun reading all the comments here. Cheers, nevenretro. ;)

  • Suena ridiculo. I really don't like it, rather I'd invent my own conlang and teach it to my kids. LOL

  • why? so they can be misunderstood by everyone and waste valuable brain space where other langs can go.

  • I'm 12 years old and i'm learing esperanto.

I isn't difficult and its very nice to learn.

  • Good for you.

When you understan how the world works you will regret not paying attention to your English teacher in college.

  • Totally agree with you

  • Good for you. Noone cares. Shut up.

By the way, while you are at it, read my response to nightimer5, it applies to you as well!

And learn his lesson, his account was closed!

  • Wow, YOU are obviously the one who does not understand how the world works, asshole!

    - One can learn more than one language.

    - He already does speak English, obviously.

    - Not everyone speaks English, so being able to speak English does not mean being able to speak with everyone.

So what you are saying is bullshit!

You obiviously said it just because you do not like Esperanto for some reason!

Get a spine and grow up, retard!

  • Ah, your account got closed, I see.

Well, that's what happens if you are being an obnoxious asshole!

Good luck in life with that attiude, hypocrite!

  • Don't listen to this idiot, he obviously speaks less languages than you!

Also, his account was closed, probably because he was an asshole!

  • Gxi estis ete malkorekteta (saluTON, k.t.p.), sed vere ridigega!

  • vi estas solta (that was the first sentence i learned)

  • Bonko is a minimalistic language with 100 root-words and 14 letters. Root words can be combined to form more complex thoughts. Bonko is a language based on the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis which state "the language a person speaks determines how a person understands the world and behave in it".Latin based ,Sino-Indo based, Ido-Esperanto based, Germanic based , Toki Pona based. Bonko is better than Esperanto because it has less words and is made from more than European languages.

  • "Bonko is better than Esperanto because it has less words and is made from more than European languages."

How does this make it better?

  • Tio estas komika al la fino!! :P (sorry if I made a mistake, i'm acutally learning esperanto)

  • you made a mistake in the parenthesis, you wanted to say currently, not actually.

(ich tippe mal du bist deutsch, da du acutally geschrieben, was nicht aktuell-zur zeit heisst, sondern "eigentlich")

  • Thanks, I'm learning English at the same time XD

  • Plus, it's spelled "actually".

  • Mi amas vin.

  • Danko.

  • Thats's dankoN!

  • haha kia stranga!!!

  • lol, fuckin gas

  • cxarma video :D

  • Mi estas gaya, jota, queera, fagotta, etc, etc, lol hahahahahaha

  • That´s so funny! xD

  • lol awesome

  • Mi estas "gaya", ke Esperanto ekzistas.

  • Mi no amas the stupid 'effin puppet voices

  • This language seems fun, I'm learning it...

  • Hooray! How does it go?

  • I haven't been studying as often as I should (I'm taking Japanese as a part of my course work) But I know how to put a sentence together. I like the fact that Esperanto is influenced by many languages. It make it easier for me to understand languages I don't know.

  • Haha. So cute!

  • I want to learn that lenguage...

  • Go ahead and do it, then!

Check this out: lernu (dot) net

  • I strongly believe that all languages are badly-structured because the letters of an unknown words don't provide you with any information about the word (is it a plant, an animal, an action etc.?) the idea of Experanton is extremely honorable. I wish I could speak it, also the language of deaf people, the only secondary language that should exist.

  • Saluton fiprofoj!

vi ver malbonege parolas Esperanton, sed almenaù vi bone amuzigxis!

    Kiiiisoj al vi belaj pupoj!

    HpZ.

  • Fascinating how it's so easy to capture the patterns of the language even on the first hearing. Nive video, by the way. How well does Esperanto work with puns, however? (Hello? Any Esperanto-loving songwriters out there reading this?)

  • You're a gay language.

  • lol not too clever Micheal but i agree:D!

  • ah s1x6s1x no seas malo con el este idioma

    amu la Esperanton

    Mi amas la Esperanton

Esperanto estas la plej bona lingvon

    disculpen, no hablo esperanto

  • I must be a lesbian for wanting to learn it then :/

  • Why must you be a lez?

  • Because s1x6s1x says Esperanto is a gay language. So I must be gay for learning it.

I sure hate when people use "gay" as a synonym for stupid, lame, uncool, etc.

  • Well Im sorry, I meant that it's lame language, I hope you are happy now =).

  • Ok. Sorry, I just get really angry when people call stuff gay. I can lose control of myself sometimes... One time I screamed at a girl at the top of my lungs for calling something gay. Sorry, and I forgive you 8D

  • :D heh

  • You know, 'gay' really means 'lighthearted, joyful, happy.'.

The homosexuals took over that word, tho, to try to make themselves look better, but they just ended up destroying the word instead. A lot of illiterate kids don't even know the real meaning of the word today.

  • I know that. It's sad that gay has lost its original meaning. :'(

  • haha. you corrected 'gay' and called it 'lame'!! lame means unable or have difficulty walking (a disabilty)

  • What, did you learn English from a text book? No one uses "lame" as a word for a disability anymore (or at least very rarely). Lame means pathetic/dumb/boring.

  • that's not what i meant. i meant you used 'gay' as an insult but in order to be 'politically correct', you changed it to 'lame', which still does mean having difficulty walking. and btw., i like to think i speak english very well, thankyou, having grown up in england.

  • They destroyed "homosexual", too. Why can't guys hang out with guys without being thought of as queer? It would be nice to have the word "homosexual" to describe situations in India and China where men are with men and women with women for the purpose of understanding, cohesion and lasting friendship.

  • actually, straight people used it as a stereotype, saying how all homosexual men always are "gay", implying their effeminacy.

  • English is shit. go with japanese!

  • good one!

  • I can't get over the irony that you had to write that in English to ensure most people understood it... doesn't that pretty much end your argument before it starts?

  • ive tried, its too hard... why even bring english in this... this video has almost nothing to do with english

  • What?

  • Nu... bonvolu resurbendigi chi-interesan dialogon sen tiom da francakchento!!! Mi registris tiujn sekvajn malbonajojn: estas, saluton, hodiau, soifo, bonvolu, devas, ankau, adiau.

  • I am sure homo neanderthalensis had a more complex structure and better sound than this. Ideal for lazy learners... I prefer English...

  • Yessssssss!

Lern english, and do it well!

Cos' it will be easier to understand when "Uncle Sam" says: "Shut Up and down your head, you are in the world only to serve us. Don't even think about 'freedom'. You must buy our products, achieve our culture without questioning anything and do thank God for having this 'honor'!"

  • How many languages do you know? English is not THAT good...

  • "I am sure homo neanderthalensis had a more complex structure ..."

Aha! So you can tell the structure of a language just by listening to it for a few seconds!

Unfortunaly, I don't know this language you call "homo neandethalensis."

  • "I prefer English..."

Aha, so it's settled! The entire world must learn English because some guy on the internet says so!

  • Though I learn esperanto I REALY don't like it. I don't care bout gramatics and stuff, the lingvo is VERY simple and easy to learn. What I don't like about it is that is sounds like a salad from spanish, german, italian and a couple of other languages. The result is something very unpleasant for the ear. I don't think esperanto will ever reach it's goal.

  • Yeah, Esperto just sounds like spanish, and Italien with no flavor.

  • Yes, and "flavor" is the point of a language!

Asshat! Is there a more pretextual excuse to reject a language!

  • well Ido is the language to correct Esperanto.

ido is still made by zamenhof, but esperanto was a mistake, i don't know why they changed the awesome name though :(

  • Actually Zamenhof didn't make Ido. Its conlanger are Otto Jespersen, Louis de Beaufront, Louis Couturat and other more marginal people.

  • "well Ido is the language to correct Esperanto."

However, it does no such thing!

You can't correct something there is nothing wrong with!

    "esperanto was a mistake"

Again, somebody who claims something without backing it up and pretending that it's fact!

The typical sign of a bullshiter!

  • OMG, I love it! The little sock puppet's twitch at the very end made me laugh for like 20 seconds.

  • I hate to disagree, but I think you are a bit misinformed. Esperanto has the easiest morphology of any language I have ever studied. True, it has declensions. There are only two cases, however; nominative and accusative. This is a positive since it allows freedom in word order and is not difficult to learn. As far as conjugations, I would like to learn which verbs are conjugated and how. I've never seen them.

  • As far as learning Esperanto for Chinese people, I cannot argue that it is more difficult than for Westerners. This is due to a lack of cognates. Frankly, Chinese people will have this problem with almost ANY language, not just Esperanto. Chinese also has inconsistencies that Esperanto does not. The Counting words are a good example.

  • Yes, it needs to get rid of declensions and conjugations. Chinese does just fine without them.

  • And Chinese is one of the most complicated languages of the world.

You really need to stop talking about things you know dick about.

  • They see me trollin'

  • "Esperanto in an European language based. It can be "easy" for west natives, but it keeps declensios and conjugations, ie., unecessary features."

    Er... what the fuck?

    Prepositions are unnecessary features, too!

And if you don't use flexion, you need prepositions! Idiot!

"And what is worse, Esperanto has no cultural trace. It ia a black and white language. A language without idioms is dry and poor."

Er ... You really need to stop pulling shit out of your ass and pretend that it is fact!

  • sounds like 'la vaca esta preso en el pantano''......a joke that went out of control....lol

  • en que parte? Cevichero?

  • i DONT think it's THAT neutral.. sounds like a simplified Spanish ...

  • It has words from Spanish, Italian, German, English.... the list goes on.

It is neutral in the sense that it is equally easy to learn for most of the people, not in the sense that it should sound unrecognizable for everybody.

  • Good point ^^ but and I guess most languages would have the vowels in it anyway. I think their could be a more 'fair' universal language in any case. I am a fan of esperanto. Sorry i gave ur comment minus when I meant to give it a plus :( sorry.

    ^^ peace

  • It shares aspects of its grammer in common with Chinese though.

Watch that video by Claude Piron.

  • It uses already existing words, so it sucks!

    (Sarcasm!)

  • Wouldn't it be nice to speak one language.

  • I speak MORE than one language, how MORE nice for me. hehe

  • it's all about politics though, if the leaders gathered together and decided to make Esperanto an international language then we'd be taking it in schools as a mandatory course.
