School performance of for good, I'm taller than idina by one inch and I sang elphie, and my bff is like 5'0 and a half and she sang glinda it was so cool, but we were sitting on prop chairs while we sang, so u couldn't tell

I love this; this is like a month or so before the show started its Broadway run, and Idina Menzel became the legend she is today. Its so fun to see her right before it all went down; she looks so young and not as put together and all done up like she is now. Ohh, she had no idea what was coming once this show opened!

Actually, the gasps are a sign of very good vocal technique. A clavicular breath will tilt the cricoid cartilage and lift the larynx in preparation for belt - Very healthy. Most people mistake it for Asthma, bad technique or Acting *Shudder*. Idina knows what shes doing, give her some credit. It may be a main rule of singing in your amateur production or church choir, but if you want to belt properly you have to be healthy. :)

'cause, she is such a good actress! And her voice is amazing! I hate when people say; "Idina CRACKED through Defying Gravity" I mean, RENT was such a different show from Wicked. She had a very raspy voice in RENT. And in Wicked she educated her voice. Not like other Elphabas that can belt their ass off(Shoshana & Eden for example!) But, Idina is the best Elphaba for me. She is Elphie :)

its easier to hold the note and push it out if you start with a vowel then slide into the ending sound you want. its a vocal trick i say this as a vocal teacher.

I find it so surreal when the camera pans out on some of the audience members, and they are just stood there with a normal expression on their faces! Are they not aware of the splendor that is WICKED?! Are they not aware of the gripping power of musicals?!.
