I can see why the manager's action would be seen as rude, but as a manager, fans would be the least of his concern when he's in charge of making sure his client gets to where she needs to be on time and in one piece. They wouldn't last long as managers to top celebrities if they didn't take their jobs so seriously.

I think there are reasons why companies don't allow people to take direct pictures with the idols. Once one person asks for one, more will ask and cause problems. More people will gather and can hurt the idol. I don't blame how the managers act, they're trying to do their jobs. :D

If SNSD weren't as popular, their company would probably be fine with some fans getting pics, autos. But as you get more popular/well-known, its just best to not let them get swarmed by fans.
