Well altough i love Rush, during this song i finally realised that Lifeson is just not a solo player, he has done some good riffs and he´s perfect rhytm player but his solos -i have to say- are pointless and almost sucks. He´s like Labrie for Dream Theater, the weakest part
Couldn't disagree more about Alex Lifeson. He's crafted some of the most memorable guitar solos I can think of ... "Limelight", "Passage to Bangkok", "Mission".... the list goes on.
@manvaix Are you kidding? Alex is in a class by himself. His solos are like no other guitarist. How many out there play in the odd time signatures that Rush do? Such as 7/8, 5/4 etc. Many guitar greats play with blues-like chord progressions but Alex is like no other. If you understand music you can't help but appreciate his style. The key and time changes are masterfully done. Listen to some older Rush tunes and try to figure out the chords and time signatures.
This is by far the best performance, studio or live, that Rush has ever done if this song. Absolutely incredible. The emotion and dynamic that it brings is nearly indescribable.
This particular performance, in my opinion, is what epitomizes the greatness of RUSH.
I've followed Rush from the beginning... This is a brilliant performance from the boys...I do hope the next LP showcases more of Alex's guitar work... one of the most underrated players ever...
It's a crying shame! Ozzy has a star on the Hollywood walk of fame....what does that tell ya? What does Ozzy have to do with Hollywood? Ridiculous! Jim Plunkett won two Super Bowls...no NFL Hall of fame there either! By all means....aww screw it, we know Rush is great!

These guys are truly amazing. Can't believe so many people are close-minded to them. They are missing out!!!! I got hooked on Moving Pictures back in the day.
Tho solo gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. Literally. Rush has changed my life and who I am as a person. They are looked down by critics, but the fans love them. And that's all that matters. I will love rush for the rest of my life. The exit stage left version of la villa is one of the best versions besides this one. Truly amazing.
This is the song that got me totally hooked on Rush. When I was in high school my neighbor gave me Exit Stage Left for X-mas. I never ever get tired of listening to this song. It still gives me goose bumps 25 + years later to this day.
I will never tire of this. How I wish that I were at this show. <3
It's pretty easy to see why this is my favorite band. I have only seen them in concert once before, but it was an experience that I'll forever remember. My (so far) short life was made that night, and hopefully again in the future. ^^
Nice to see this band finally getting the respect it deserves. They've inspired a generation of musicains, from Metallica, to Queensryche and Dream Theater. They are the "thinking man's rock band". I grew up listenening to their stuff and am now wn engineer. Go figure!
@NewMexicoSunset Agreed, I recently got into Dream Theater, and thought to myself "hmm I wonder if these guys were influenced by Rush?" and low and behold I was right :D
Why everyone always only talks about Peart! Sure, he is damn awesome, but Rush wouldn't be Rush without Lifeson and Geddy! Especially this song would be nothing without Lifeson, so why the top comments are about Peart?
I have always wondered something. At times the playing gets intense. I wonder even thou they are playing the song that they know and they know their strokes they have to do, but, during some of the parts I wonder if they really start to feed off one anothers energy of just playing.
I seriously can not believe these inavative artists are denied their rightfull place in the rock n roll hall of fame. They always preform top notch, seeing them live and listening to 3000 plus fans harmonizing to a beautiful song like Closer to the Heart is spine chilling.
La Villa Strangiato translates to Strange Villiage or Weird City . Giddy Lee said in an interview that the band spent more time in the studio recording this music piece than they did the whole Fly By Night album !!
An instrumental that is played so pefectly, the crowd doesn't miss a beat!! This is absolute proof positive of the HUGE diff between a studio shite band and the real deal!!!
This was the last show of the Vapor Trails tour. The crew didn't finish setting up until the last minute due to trucks arriving almost 7 hours late, and the guys didn't even get a sound check...and still, this....my God!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
Mike Portnoy (about Neil's Drumming on La Villa Stangiato): "that was the benchmark of drumming when i was a kid"... That's why, Dream Theatre have a similiarity sound and drum technique under Portnoy just like RUSH with Peart..
And it's even nicer to see a relatively modern audience hanging onto and cheering every phrase of the solo, and roaring massive approval at the end. Magic.

@MrCowicide If corparate rock is these guys making a dollar to put in their pocket... more power... but I've been listening to these guys since 76 and they have never bucked to dollar like some bands... they have always been about pure music..... TOTALLY!!!
