I'm going to have to try this "pinch from the back of the blade" thing -- first I've heard of it.
What I've done since I saw it on a different show is to just turn the knife sideways (edge facing to the right, say) and tap the stone on the board. A couple of taps and it falls off.
lol my mom actually gets a steak knife and sorta spanks the avocado with the flat side of the knife and then she does what Jamie did but then cuts it into 4 wedges and then peels the skin like easy also there is this rumor that if the pit falls on ur foot youll get a tumor there. lol wow thats what they think in Peru but anyway great demo :)
I think I have the easiest, no fuss, method. Halving and stoning is done pretty much the same, except I hold the avo in my hand (I have hand-eye coord). Then I cut lines (about 1cm/0.4 inches apart) through the flesh, but not the skin, from top to tail. Then I do the same perpendicular to that. When that is done I just roll it in my hand a bit then turn it over and the avo blocks fall out with no avo left on the skin, and no avo on your hands. Clean and simple.
@JamieOliver can you guys please re-edit this to show how to SAFELY get the stone OFF of the knife? I think THAT'S the scariest part! Show the "pinch from the back of the blade" technique, for those who don't know. I think I learned it from watching The Naked Chef.
@closerto30: I'm not sure what's so scary about holding the stone and pulling the blade away from you, but the technique you mention seems interesting even though I am not yet convinced that it is by necessity safer. If your fingertips slip past the edge of the blade then you run a greater risk of cutting yourself. The best safeguard is to use the knife with confidence and respect, and to pay attention to what you are doing.
im in my late teens and i've always done that to avacados never cut myself and never needed anyone to tell me. but i never used a knife to get the seed out i would just gently use a spoon...
I am sorry, but to be honest, the only people watching these videos are the ones that have a subscription to JamieOliver, because seriously, look at the tags : 14, AVOCADO, QuickTime, 264, HCS.... what? If you want to promote your videos better, make a bit more effort and add some tags which actually correspond to the video. Good luck mate !
@tiagobuhr: I certainly agree. The only tag that is relevant there is "avocado". What about "jamie oliver", "knife skills", "cooking tips", or something similar? Perhaps the commenters can propose a few they think are relevant.
@tiagobuhr ...do you know who Jamie Oliver is? He's got a bunch of cook books and has had 4..5? television shows. People will come on here and look up Jamie Oliver because he's basically helped to shape current food trends in England. He doesn't really need to promote.
LOL if it aint ripe just put it in a paper bag with a banana, its ripe in a day. HAha Jamie The fucking Magyver of the food world :P

The pinch thing sounds even easier.

23:34 is where MOST cuts happen !
you should pinch it from the blunt side of the knife
with thumb and forefinger - just push it away and it falls off.
no ther safe way to do it barehanded.

@tiagobuhr You don't have a subscription to jamie oliver? umad???
TheBazzaa94 1 year ago
@TheBazzaa94 ofcouse i do, thats the only way i would ever come across this video, because the tags are pretty horrible to be honest.
tiagobuhr 1 year ago
@tiagobuhr It doesn't really matter, a lot of people have half the page full of tags on some of their videos.
TheBazzaa94 1 year ago
@TheBazzaa94: It does matter.

@arthurandroid I don't really have a problem with it so it doesn't matter to me.
TheBazzaa94 1 year ago
@TheBazzaa94: Fair enough, but I think the point is it should matter to the uploader. Tags aid in searches, etc.
