One time I was doing research on how the condoms are made of on the Google search engine. To my surprise, the condoms were made up of latex material. Latex material could leak easily.
I have a few questions. Aren't there any rules about quality of condoms? I know that plastic or synthetic condoms originally developed for allergies are of a much more higher quality and reduce the chance of getting infected considerably and maybe even eliminate it. Why aren't these studies shown with importance to governments that can restrict the freedom of the manufacturors?
I guess what I'm asking - and you might not be the appropriate person to ask this to - is "why are morals attached to sex (when it's between consenting adults). Why is sex seen as something beyond a sublimely intimate connection and act-of-sharing (between consenting adults). Also, why is sex seen as something unnatural, instead of the most natural thing in the world? Your video makes no such claim and I do not wish to imply that it does, but there is a prevalent attitude (at least in America).
wol4fram, your eighteen year old daughter wants to go to bed with a thirty-five year old, umemployed drug addict who may have a STD. Since they are both consenting adults, you give them your blessing -- NOT!! Think of what you are saying!!.
True, but I feel as though most people would react in that manner because of social attitudes more than religious ones. Again, your film is not explicitly religious, but it is *implicitly* so.
I will not deny that abstinence is the only 100% safe prevention of pregnancy and STDs (though STDs can be transmitted non-sexually, too). However, with precautions, partners can enjoy sex in an almost 100% safe (from STDs and pregnancy) manner. It seems to me as though abstinence education does not
Did you, an atheist, expect to find support of whatever sex life you chose?
I just happen to think a loving monogamous relationship is the way to go. I pray for lost souls, like yours. I believe satan is hard at work taking good strong young people down the wrong path. It is so easy to rationalize the things of the world, they can appear so attractive and so harmless.
That is why we need God, to show us the guidance to true
STDs are of concern to everyone you have a one night stand with, and vice versa, as these are infectious diseases. Some of these can cause sterility or even cancer in women, so it is not just a personal thing. Also, remember that condoms are not 100% effective in preventing HIV spread, so you may want to get yourself
tested and find out the status of any partner. What will you do if the condom breaks and there is an unplanned pregnancy? It happens.
I like that analogy - have never heard it before. I suppose it would be rejected, however, on the grounds that driving is a neutral, necessary act, and that sex is dirty unless in marriage and completely optional. Of course, I don't see it that way...
Abortion is killing, but that's another story. You're missing the point here. Condoms are preventing any fertilization. It's silly to clarify this, MachineAmbition.
When it comes to "safe sex" I do think that it comes attached to a merely made up point of view of sexuality which I absolutely disagree with and also made me wonder: "What if I want to have a child? What if I want to be safe then?" Weird stuff.
Well, I shall be married before I have sex, but I have no desire in having any children. As a child I never truly got into the whole maternal view anyhow, and having about 6 siblings made me just tired as heck. I shall not have sex with a guy till I'm married but then I'm still using some form of birth control. :)
Natural law is mostly that of indiscriminant sex and lots of offsrping, and only very rarely, monogamy. As natural law is already being violated, it seems fit to at least avoid most of the consequences of that violation by using condoms.
I don't really think most sources advocating "safer sex" tell you it's ok to have sex with as many people as you want as long as you wear a condom...I was never told this, not in public school, college or anywhere else. Actually, condoms, like you point out do significantly lower the risks of sexual behavior, but less effectively the more risky it is. No one claims that condoms are magical and eliminate all harm, but claiming they are worthless is also very false.
MachineAmbition, Genital herpes. Condoms reduce the risk of transmission by 40% if they are used at least 65% of the time. One study showed condoms reduced transmission risk for women by 25% but men were still at risk.
These days "aafe sex" is usually just called "safer sex.". Even among the pro-sex lobby there has been an acknowledgement that safe sex doesn't exist. What the studies used in this video don't mention is that condoms actually have naturally occuring holes bigger than the HIV virus itself. But the pro-sex lobby, including sex educators, don't want people to find out just how risky and dangerous sex can be, and are often hostile to those who dare speak honestly of such risks.
Science showing that condoms (a man made protection) is not safe! Shocking... No, not really, nothing man made can protect people from disease (harm) all of the time.
And as you have shown very well, in this video, thinking that way (thinking that something which is made by flawed sinful human beings can protect someone from all danger) is an epic fail.
The best protection, the only sure protection, is to simply avoid all fornication and adultery. Just as the video showed! That's Biblical.
Actually safe sex is anything that reduces risk of infection and STDs. This isn't limited to condom use (which most people will refer to as safer sex) but also includes manual and oral simulation, use of objects, and non-penetrative sex. Also there are 130 types of HPV, not all of which are STDs, and not all of these types cause genital warts.
In 2006, there were 1,030,911 cases of Chlamydia alone reported in the US, not to mention the other cases of STDs. If condoms were as effective as people believe, the numbers would not be so high.
If you are going to quote mine - give the source and supporting studies for the claims and ensure the claims they make have not been super ceded by later studies.
Why are you not quoting from the FDA site or the UN WHO websites on sexual health and family planning?
Is it because these sites do not support your personal agenda?
mattblackcat, since you are too lazy to read the references listed in the video -- I have listed the references in the video by using annotations. The data in the video are correct -- there are no references which supports false claims that condoms are 100% effective or even close to 100% effective in preventing STDs. You are in denial.
So they are just effective, not 100% effective. That's pretty much what's claimed by the condom manufacturers as well. You are simply claiming any risk is not a risk worth taking, and that's the moral aspect.
The NIH says that consistent condom use decreased the risk of HIV/AIDS transmission by ONLY about 85 percent. That is, there is a 15% chance you will get HIV/AIDS anyway. Would you board an airplane that had a 15% chance of crashing?
mattblackcat, you are not comprehending. The data tells you that there is a very good chance that a condom will not protect you from STDs; hence, using a condom is not "safe-sex". The purpose is to avoid having a medical problem in the first place -- not to have a doctor tell you what you already know -- that is -- that you have a medical problem since you indulged in sexual relations with people who were infected.
No the data sates the safest way to protect yourself when having sex is to use a male and a female condom.
Abstinence is an option but not the only one! How many times do I need to spell it out.
You are in seeking to mis-represent the risks, which are acknowledged and agreed by all, in an attempt to scare people into abstinence.
You run the risk of confusing people to the point where they are so mistrusting condoms they do not use them and expose themselves and others to far greater danger!
mattblackcat, condoms are not effective. The video is based on scientific data. You are promoting the logical fallacy, that, if you are going to have sex with a prostitute, then don't worry, wearing a condom will prevent you from picking up STDs. in 2006, there were 1,030,911 cases of Chlamydia alone reported in the US, not to mention the other cases of STDs. If condoms were as effective as you believe, the numbers would not be so high. Please consult a medical profesional for more information.
They don't prevent anything, but they do greatly reduce the risk. Even if the risks were 20% less, it's statistically significant and therefore effective at reducing risks - that's all even the condom manufacturers claim, and even so - the numbers you cite are well above 20%! Also, how do you know all of those cases were related to sex with condoms. I bet a large portion of those (not all, of course) are related to sex without them.
Some claim that condoms will cut down on the spread of many STDs, including HIV/AIDS. However, a 7/20/01 report from the NIH, Scientific Evidence on Condom Effectiveness for Sexually Transmitted Disease Prevention, concluded that scientific evidence does not support condom use as a means to prevent infections of genital herpes (HSV), human papillomavirus, chlamydia, syphilis, chanchroid, and trichomonas. There is evidence of protection for men against gonorrhea, but not women.
"Sexually transmitted diseases, including AIDS, can be prevented!
Learn the facts so that you can protect yourself and others from getting infected. Condoms are not 100% safe, but if used properly, will reduce the risk of sexually transmitted diseases, including AIDS. If you have unprotected sex now, you can contract sexually transmitted diseases. Later, if you decide to have children, you might pass the disease on to them. "
In a 1999 study published in Family Planning Perspectives, Karen Davis and Susan Weller note that in several in vivo [real life] trials to measure condom failure due to slippage and breakage, rates have varied from 0.5 to 6.7 percent for breakage and 0.1 to 16.6 percent for slippage.6
mattblackcat, you are the one who is having trouble comprehending. Physicians will tell you that the only sure way to not get STIs/STDs is to refrain from sexual indulgence until you are married to a clean partner. Why is it so hard to educate people about sexual health matters?
It is hard because certain political religious pressure groups seek to keep people ignorant and fearful about matters of sexual health.
You can contract certain STIs and STDs by other methods - blood transfusion is one.
Abstinence-only education has been criticized by the APA, the AMA, et al which ALL maintain that sex education needs to be comprehensive to be effective.
Promoting abstinence by using fear shame and ignorance is not education it is deceitful and abusive!
mattblackcat, you don't get it! The false promotion of condoms by yourself and others as "safe-sex", when in reality condoms are not effective -- as the video clearly shows, is only promoting misinformation which will lead to tragic health results for young people. True profesionals in the medical field will tell you the same. People like yourself are a part of the problem -- not a solution. And then you blame religion for your unethical actions!
mattblackcat, no, you are incorrect. There is no such thing as "safe-sex" unless the two married partners are virgins. Data clearly shows condoms are ineffective. You are promoting misinformation and ignorance. Please go consult a medical profesional in order to get educated on this topic.
Data clearly shows condoms are effective, just not 100% effective. You are confusing the two. Statistics work in risk reduction, not risk elimination. If you would consult that same medical professional, that's what they would tell you.
The width of the head of a normal human sperm is 2.5 to 3.5 microns, but viruses are much smaller. "The defining feature of viruses is their diminutive size. For example, the AIDS virus is only 0.15 microns, and the hepatitis B virus is even smaller. Given the presence in rubber of intrinsic defects two orders of magnitude larger in size, the ability of a condom or surgical glove to prevent transmission of viral particles is problematic."
The virus is smaller than the pores of the latex condom, but the virus need a medium in which to be carried about. This condom discussion is going to go on forever!!!
Condoms have always posed a great use-effectiveness problem. The FDA requires contraceptive manufacturers to list the typical rate of pregnancy for one year of use. For male condoms the FDA says the rate is 14 percent. In other words, over a span of a year, for every 100 typical couples using condoms, 14 will become pregnant. But this rate is based on birth prevention, not disease prevention.
The JULY 2001 study by the NIH disagrees with the claims made is this video.
"The data clearly show that condoms prevent HIV/AIDS, which is the most deadly STI, and gonorrhea, the most easily transmitted infection," says Willard Cates, Jr., MD, MPH
mattblackcat, you have not even bothered to read the references in the video. NIH Report on the Scientific Evidence on Condom Effectiveness for Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Prevention.
Yes I did - the studies you are quote mining from are out of date.
In addition, on August 16 2001, the United Nations Joint Programme on HIV/AIDS and the World Health Organization issued a statement emphasizing the importance of condoms as "the best defence" in preventing STIs
mattblackcat, See, "Sex, Condoms and STDs: What We Now Know. Safer sex isnt nearly safe enough, The Medical Institute for Sexual Health, 2002." The reference is from 2002, which is later than your 2001 quote. Also, the "best defense" against STIs is not condoms, but sexual self-control until one is married. The data in the video comes from NIH. Also, remember, condoms is big business and also has political interest involved.
Wearing a seat belt will not grant invincibility but it GREATLY reduces the risk of death and serious injury to you and others if you are involved in an collision.
Likewise condoms are not 100% perfect but then nothing is ever 100%, but they are always better than nothing.
Safe sex is best practice and it's meaning should not be treated literally.
Consult a Doctor or qualified STD health care worker for further information
mattblackcat, did you bother to watch the video? Essentially 0% protection against some particular STDs is not the same as being less than perfect!. Would you board an airplane with a 50% chance of making a safe landing? The best practice is not engaging in sexual relations until you are married. The video is based on the finding of doctors and scientists, hence, your comment on "consult a doctor..." is hypocritical. If you love someone, do not ruin their life just to satify your sexual urges.
What if a married couple uses spermicidal condoms so they don't procreate after every sexual encounter and end up with an amount of kids in the double digits?
It would be helpful for you to learn that in order to criticize a video for having "false info" to provide evidence to your claim contradicting the claims in the video - otherwise, you are merely doing something similiar to purely name-calling
Come on now, if condoms weren't safe it'd be all over the news and everyone would have STDs. I have multiple multiple sex partners and get tested regularly and I never have shit.
Your argument is basically saying, "because it hasn't happened to me, it has & will never happen to anybody else"
The news media does not tread on issues for too long so to state that it is not in the news now does not mean it ever was
Not to mention that if your logic was correct then why do we not hear about the scientific findings on the dangers of homosexuality lifestyles(ex.chronic depression rates to lack of long-term relationships beyond an average of three-years)to chem trails 24/7?
Isaiah 54:17 ...you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD...
1 Peter 3:15-16 But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander
DarylWashingtonV4, in 2006, there were 1,030,911 cases of Chlamydia alone reported in the US, not to mention the other cases of STDs. If condoms were as effective as you believe -- the numbers would not be so high. You do not need multiple sex partners. You need a good marriage.
you can have the virus in your blood and the HIV may get a false positive for a month or two. look it up if you don't believe me. You are playing with fire.
The JULY 2001 study by the NIH disagrees with the claims made is this video.

mattblackcat, you have not even bothered to read the references in the video. Workshop Summary: Scientific Evidence on Condom Effectiveness for STD Prevention.
DarylWashingtonV4, just because physicians cannot detect any manifestations of STDs in you, does not mean that you do not have the related viruses or bacteria in your biological system. You do not need multiple sex partners. You need a good marriage.
It's funny how certain people, particularly the religious ones are quick to tell others what they "need" or "want". Listen to yourselves people and do what you want, instead of settling for someone else's "truths". By the way, avian influenza is related to regular influenza, do you think a person has the bird flu if they have the related regular flu viruses in their body? I didn't think so.
Chastity and virtue, the greatest myths of them all. While some individuals may be masochistic enough to live their entire lives denying their natural urges, most people who are fed with this bullshit suffer needlessly from feelings of shame and self-hate possibly for their entire lives. If you're so afraid of std:s just don't have sex, but if you still do it - wear a condom! The study that is used here as a reference is probably biased or poorly conducted, condom effectiveness is a proven fact.
DarylWashingtonV4, you are confessing to the world that you are unable to control your sexual urges. Real adults can control their sexual urges. The video is based on scientific data.
CreepingGreenman, you are confessing to the world that you are unable to control your sexual urges. Real adults can control their sexual urges. The video is based on scientific data.
Am I talking to a bot? Was I talking about my sexual behavior in any way? No, you are just analyzing me based on a single opinion that I posted. You think you can define what a "real adult" is? I don't think so, I think you're just a repressed individual who doesn't really enjoy life and doesn't want anyone else to do so either. Well, good luck with god, heaven etc..., until someone PROVES otherwise, I'm gonna live my life as my only one.
Oh bless you! Share this with your friends to, trust me, I'm not even married yet, but I know it's so worth waiting for! Sex is a beautiful sacred thing between a husband and wife as long as the marriage bed is not defiled. It's a soul bonding thing to, and it will only strengthen and help your marriage to one day! God Bless you:)
It's nice to wait till you're married, but life's not about what you rejected, but what you embrace. There are much worst things (than fornicating) that are supported by the same anti-contraceptive people: how about the military, noble KILLING. Yeah, serving the country by killing complete strangers. Why doesn't anybody talk about this nowadays? When was killing less of a sin than having sex for pleasure? Did I miss something?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
what if I enjoy killing bad people....i sthat okay? ._. I'd rather kill a murderer than do something immoral to be quiet honest. Or be responcible for creating another human being- which I do not have time or money to care for.
Wow. Now THIS is interesting. You rather go out with your boyfriend to kill someone than create pleasure with each other. And I thought I've heard it all. THANK you for this. You have truly enriched my life and those of others that have read what you have written.
The matter is nobody is going to stop anyone from having coital relations, just as nobody is going to stop people from using money to exchange goods or yell at each other when they get upset. The best thing to do, in my opinion, is set beliefs aside and say "alright, IF you're going to do it, take all the measures you can for whatever happens." I'm not condoning in any way any sexual lifestyle.
@DarsoMAN Let's say condoms reduce the risk of contracting illnesses by on average about 90 percent with consistent use. If you have sex ten times as much with condoms than you otherwise would, you have just completely offset the risk reduction.
"Condom culture" is just one factor in the modern promiscuity/STI pandemic. Another factor is urbanization, and yet another is the abandonment of any real attempt to keep non-related boys and girls segregated during their education.
If you believe in the big guy upstairs why dont you let him do the judging and keep your nose out of other peoples business. You dont agree with sex before marriage, fine but dont shove it down my throat and dont shove your religious BS down it either.

You run the risk of confusing people to the point where they are so mistrusting condoms they do not use them and expose themselves and others to far greater danger!
mattblackcat 3 years ago
mattblackcat, condoms are not effective. Please consult a medical profesional for more information.
rosaryfilms 3 years ago
They don't prevent anything, but they do greatly reduce the risk. Even if the risks were 20% less, it's statistically significant and therefore effective at reducing risks - that's all even the condom manufacturers claim, and even so - the numbers you cite are well above 20%! Also, how do you know all of those cases were related to sex with condoms. I bet a large portion of those (not all, of course) are related to sex without them.
MachineAmbition 3 years ago
MachineAmbition, Syphilis. Condoms reduce the risk of transmission by 2950% if they are used 100% of the time.

There is evidence of protection for men against gonorrhea, but not women.
rosaryfilms 3 years ago
From the FDA - website
"Sexually transmitted diseases, including AIDS, can be prevented!
Learn the facts so that you can protect yourself and others from getting infected. Condoms are not 100% safe, but if used properly, will reduce the risk of sexually transmitted diseases, including AIDS. If you have unprotected sex now, you can contract sexually transmitted diseases. Later, if you decide to have children, you might pass the disease on to them. "

mattblackcat, you have just admitted that there is no such thing as "safe-sex".
rosaryfilms 3 years ago
In a 1999 study published in Family Planning Perspectives, Karen Davis and Susan Weller note that in several in vivo [real life] trials to measure condom failure due to slippage and breakage, rates have varied from 0.5 to 6.7 percent for breakage and 0.1 to 16.6 percent for slippage.6

Yes that is why condoms are not promoted as being a 100% effective form of birth control.

mattblackcat, you have just admitted that there is no such thing as "safe-sex".
rosaryfilms 3 years ago
Don't be obtuse - I never claimed there was.
You have a medical problme or question - seek qualified advice from a Doctor, Family planning clinic or an STD health care worker.
Why is it so hard to educating people about sexual health matters?
mattblackcat 3 years ago 2
mattblackcat, you are the one who is having trouble comprehending. Physicians will tell you that the only sure way to not get STIs/STDs is to refrain from sexual indulgence until you are married to a clean partner. Why is it so hard to educate people about sexual health matters?
rosaryfilms 3 years ago
It is hard because certain political religious pressure groups seek to keep people ignorant and fearful about matters of sexual health.
You can contract certain STIs and STDs by other methods - blood transfusion is one.
Abstinence-only education has been criticized by the APA, the AMA, et al which ALL maintain that sex education needs to be comprehensive to be effective.
Promoting abstinence by using fear shame and ignorance is not education it is deceitful and abusive!
mattblackcat 3 years ago 3
mattblackcat, you don't get it! And then you blame religion for your unethical actions!
rosaryfilms 3 years ago
You are now being wilfully obtuse.
If you are going to have sex - the best solution is to practice 'safe sex' Nothing in this world is 100% NO ONE has ever said it is.
And Male and female condoms are still the best protection for yourself from STIs and STDs when having sex.
If you need further clarification then seek a qualified professional medical opinion.
I am promoting education - there is NOTHING unethical about that.
mattblackcat 3 years ago
mattblackcat, no, you are incorrect. There is no such thing as "safe-sex" unless the two married partners are virgins. Data clearly shows condoms are ineffective. You are promoting misinformation and ignorance. Please go consult a medical profesional in order to get educated on this topic.
rosaryfilms 3 years ago
Data clearly shows condoms are effective, just not 100% effective. You are confusing the two. Statistics work in risk reduction, not risk elimination. If you would consult that same medical professional, that's what they would tell you.
MachineAmbition 3 years ago 2
MachineAmbition, Human Papilloma Virus. Also called genital warts. Condoms offer little to no protection even if used 100% of the time.
rosaryfilms 3 years ago
The width of the head of a normal human sperm is 2.5 to 3.5 microns, but viruses are much smaller. "The defining feature of viruses is their diminutive size. For example, the AIDS virus is only 0.15 microns, and the hepatitis B virus is even smaller. Given the presence in rubber of intrinsic defects two orders of magnitude larger in size, the ability of a condom or surgical glove to prevent transmission of viral particles is problematic."
rosaryfilms 3 years ago
The virus is smaller than the pores of the latex condom, but the virus need a medium in which to be carried about. This condom discussion is going to go on forever!!!
DarsoMAN 3 years ago

NIH Report on the Scientific Evidence on Condom Effectiveness for Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Prevention.
rosaryfilms 3 years ago
Yes I did - the studies you are quote mining from are out of date.
In addition, on August 16 2001, the United Nations Joint Programme on HIV/AIDS and the World Health Organization issued a statement emphasizing the importance of condoms as "the best defence" in preventing STIs
mattblackcat 3 years ago 2
mattblackcat, See, "Sex, Condoms and STDs: What We Now Know. Also, remember, condoms is big business and also has political interest involved.
rosaryfilms 3 years ago
mattblackcat, there is no quote mining. You are the one ignoring the data.
rosaryfilms 3 years ago
Wearing a seat belt will not grant invincibility but it GREATLY reduces the risk of death and serious injury to you and others if you are involved in an collision.
Likewise condoms are not 100% perfect but then nothing is ever 100%, but they are always better than nothing.
Safe sex is best practice and it's meaning should not be treated literally.
Consult a Doctor or qualified STD health care worker for further information
IT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE
OR THE LIFE OF SOMEONE YOU LOVE!
mattblackcat 3 years ago 2
mattblackcat, did you bother to watch the video? Essentially 0% protection against some particular STDs is not the same as being less than perfect!. Would you board an airplane with a 50% chance of making a safe landing? The best practice is not engaging in sexual relations until you are married. The video is based on the finding of doctors and scientists, hence, your comment on "consult a doctor..." is hypocritical. If you love someone, do not ruin their life just to satify your sexual urges.

Come on now, if condoms weren't safe it'd be all over the news and everyone would have STDs. I have multiple multiple sex partners and get tested regularly and I never have shit.
DarylWashingtonV4 3 years ago
Your argument is basically saying, "because it hasn't happened to me, it has & will never happen to anybody else"
The news media does not tread on issues for too long so to state that it is not in the news now does not mean it ever was
Not to mention that if your logic was correct then why do we not hear about the scientific findings on the dangers of homosexuality lifestyles(ex.chronic depression rates to lack of long-term relationships beyond an average of three-years)to chem trails 24/7?

DarsoMAN 3 years ago 2
This comment has received too many negative votes show
what if I enjoy killing bad people....i sthat okay? ._. I'd rather kill a murderer than do something immoral to be quiet honest. Or be responcible for creating another human being- which I do not have time or money to care for.
Chazzysgurl 3 years ago
Wow. Now THIS is interesting. You rather go out with your boyfriend to kill someone than create pleasure with each other. And I thought I've heard it all. THANK you for this. You have truly enriched my life and those of others that have read what you have written.
DarsoMAN 3 years ago 2
Rather childish response, but who am I to judge?
The matter is nobody is going to stop anyone from having coital relations, just as nobody is going to stop people from using money to exchange goods or yell at each other when they get upset. The best thing to do, in my opinion, is set beliefs aside and say "alright, IF you're going to do it, take all the measures you can for whatever happens." I'm not condoning in any way any sexual lifestyle.
Conversation for this issue is good!
DarsoMAN 3 years ago 3
@DarsoMAN Let's say condoms reduce the risk of contracting illnesses by on average about 90 percent with consistent use. If you have sex ten times as much with condoms than you otherwise would, you have just completely offset the risk reduction.
"Condom culture" is just one factor in the modern promiscuity/STI pandemic. Another factor is urbanization, and yet another is the abandonment of any real attempt to keep non-related boys and girls segregated during their education.
