  • 6:10 it's me!! :)

  • @loub1433 of course there are, but you'd need a huge one for a 600 persin choir, 250 member band, and 200 member orchestra.

  • kids cannot figure it out

  • Great talents there in Iowa. One word about Rienzi.

This masterpiece was also used in the old TV and radio

Lone Ranger episodes. It wasn't all William Tell, you know. Right at around 4:37 is exactly what was used as the masked man rode away with Silver and Tonto. A really great performance, you guys out there. Keep it up. Nice to see lots of young ladies playing and as is everywhere, Chinese who excel in classical music.

  • No, there are many, but the Iowa All-State show consists of this orchestra, a massive band, and a 600 person choir. They wouldn't fit and be able to perform joint pieces in an auditorium, so the show must be done in a stadium.

  • You think this is too big... Choir has 600 kids. 150 on each part.

  • iowa has SOOOOO many musicians like blazerr said . we have have opus Iowa junior honor orchestra SEIBA Honor Band All State Choir All State Massed ALL State band then All State massed! PHEW!

  • that's me playing first flute on :37! sorry, im just excited im on youtube! good times...

  • I guess you either have very few violas or overkill.

I know what a bad joke... I'll probably get minuses for it.

  • No, happiday, this is the PERFECT size for Wagner or Berlioz. None of that little chamber-sized crap for me.

  • um... really? 40 1st, 40 2nd, 24 viola, 24 cello, 16 bass? and pretty much 6 on each wind instrument

  • for rienzi it can pass, but ur right for many things that's a bit much

  • it can certainly work, but at an all state thing?....

maybe. I'm not saying they weren't good enough. but even a very large proffessional orchestra might lose some of the clarity that you would gain with a more reasonable number.

It is fun to play in a super large orchestra every once in a while though....

  • Keep in mind, high school music is VERY big in Iowa -- even little high schools with enrollments of 175 can still have 50 or 60 students in instrumental music, and even more in choir; part of the thrill of making the All-State festival is to be part of these huge ensembles (imagine, singing in a choir that is three or four times larger than your entire high school).

  • I understand. It's just wishful thinking on my part. I've played in this type of ensemble in the same setting (Illinois). So I know what it's like. It is a thrill, it is worth it and it's a great experience. In the end it's very pleasing to me to know that it's such an important emphasis in the school system there. That is not the case in many places these days... and if gigantic orchestras of kids who love music helps change that then that's great.

  • Very nice. That is one big orchestra!

  • yes, too big. :(

  • Wonderful Performance!
