This is INCORRECT, this only works if all sides are NOT equal, if all sides are equal then this method does not work. The length of the hypotenuse of each triangle will always be longer the the two sides (A and B) from A^2 + B^2 = C^2

you are making it so complex just do this,all you have to do is look at the drawing its a octagon inside a square find the area of the square(large squre surrounding the octagon) and sub tract two small squres(or four triangles ) from it takes about 10 seconds
