Well English people don't generally lock themselves in their houses. However in English homes, the yale lock and the latch on the inside is high up on the door when young children can't reach it. Common sense!

@robluongo First off, I never called the dad any names, so don't put words in my mouth. Secondly, I actually think the mom does just as many mistakes as he - they have b o t h put the family in the situation it is in. The dad is exhausted after long days at work, the mom is exhausted after long days with the kids and the kids never really get to know their father. I think that is sad, for all of them. If mom got a job too and helped supporting the family, dad could work less and spend more time.
