im bout to play this game on a modded ps2 this week!!!! im so happy. im gonna download every single one of those games that squenix decided to jip us americans out of. curse you square enix!! :P yangus's mysterious dungeon, etc, etc. its ridiculous how many games americans are jipped out of. who's with me?
And don't fucking get me started on how you beat us out of GBA Dragon Quest Monsters and all those Torneko Dungeon games! You owe it to gamers to make things right, Squeinx!
I really wish Squenix would quit teasing us with videos of these games, and then, without warning, change their mind about American distribution. First, you stiff us on Dragon Warrior IV for the PlayStation, then, you refuse to release Dragon Quest V for the PS2, and you even beat us out of Dragon Quest Yangus! *Smacks fist into palm.* QUIT IT!!! Or I'ma beat you like you owe me money!
Im currently on dragon warrior 3 for the nes and from what I see here they stay true to every detail as usual and just show that they are really dedicated to keeping up with this awesome series
this Game is great. this is my first dq game too and i had no problem getting into it BecAuse of the osT. koichi sugiyama is good at what hE does. i initially thought i wouldn't be able to get into dqv ds due to no sprites of the protagonist & his posse in battle but the aniMation for the attacks was done so well, i didn't care for the sprites(can't wait for dqix!) . the gameplay sticks to its roots which gives you the luxury of experieNcing old school rpg gamE play. this game is greaT.
BY GOD this game looks incredible much beter than the DS version witch i still liked but I would proboley like this version beter with its great soundtrack
@libernull WTF are you talking about this game is Pretty much the best DQ game of all time the Graphics,Orchashal soundtrack, and the Battle system are all too perfect the DS version may have more features but besides that this game is overall more superior
@Animefan8451 No, man, that's a matter of opinion. I think those poor polygon graphics for the characters are not as good as the DS sprites. But I know the DS version uses a lot from that version, so I'm not saying that it is shit. I just think the DS version of DQ V and VI are better looking.
Battles look nice, but the maps barely use the console's capabilities, much like the PS1 version.
Here's the question: if the monster animation is really smooth in 2D, is there enough of a benefit from switching to 3D for it to be worthwhile? Your mileage may vary, but I think I'd prefer to have the portable version of this installment to the series.
I do not care about the DS version of Dragon Quest V. I would rather wait for a fan translation of the PS2 version. The fan translation could be based on the DS version translation. There is already a fan translation of the original version, and recently a fan of the Super Famicom version of Dragon Quest III. They have done a great job on translating the Super Famicom version of Dragon Quest III, and that team should do the same with the PS2 remake of Dragon Quest V.
Can someone please tell me if a fan translation has been made for this game. It's already 2009 so there probably is but I can't find it and I've been googleing for hours. I don't have a DS so I don't care about that version.
Eh...the graphics look somewhat cheesy in this game to me o_o
But I can already tell you- the PS2 version will NOT be coming to the U.S. They tried, but they found major glitches on it. And also, this was made back in 2004, so if it were going to be released over here, it would be here already. Anyway, at least we have the DS version now :D
Yeah I am so looking forward to it to be released! They did a great job on DQ3 remake for the SNES and I'm sure this translation will be just as good.
Something tells me that Square-Enix have really shot themselves in the foot by not releasing previous Dragon Quest games in English, for I believe they are much better than Final Fantasy games, there is a market for them to be released into too. They must be reluctant to release this here because its from the PS2 generation.
Its because you have never experienced the classic greatness of the previous Dragon Quests. They have GREAT storyline and much more to it. The DS version kinda has a nostalgic feeling to it.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
For the same reason they put Turbo-Graphix 16, Neo Geo, and Sega Genesis games silly -- because they can. And they should. It would definitely be worth the money, or at least worth more than the pointless shitty games they have on the VC now. I bet you anything that Nintendo is going to be bragging to Sony and Microsoft about the Dragon Quest V DS sales next month. You watch and see...
Wait for the DS version for an English translation (early 2009), but Dragon Quest V has already been translated by fans in English (the Super Famicom version)
this isn't coming, this game was only released on ps2 in japan, and everyone else got it way later on the ds.

The 3D graphics in this version are absolutely beautiful.
The engine is fast and there are some shots where you wouldn't believe the detail possible with it.
In this case I'd say the game benefited a lot from 3D.
