Raw is the best way to go. I am IN vet school. We learn nothing about nutrition except for ONE seminar that is hosted by Hills and other nasty dog foods. Raw cleans their teeth by the ripping and chewing. How will gulping kibble help? It hardly even touches their teeth, that's why you HAVE to brush their teeth. I don't see wolves brushing their teeth? Believe me, unless your vet is specialized in nutrition, they don't know much...
Way to go for Sophie!!! Love seeing more people feeding the raw diet. Our Cane Corso's absolutely thrive on it. Wish everyone would figure out how good it is for our pets and that all commercial dog is doing is slowly killing the pets we love. Our family has fed raw for 6 years, our dogs are healthy, energetic, never go to the vet because of illness (or stuck bones)and NEVER need their teeth cleaned. Everyone comments on how beautiful and shiny their coats are and how white the teeth are.
I also have to comment on these other people that think bones are okay for dogs. How do these people know what bone is better. Look not even a raw hide is good for a dog. Please know that I see at least once a week that some one comes in with a dog that is gasping for air. Do you know why because they feed there dog chicken back, chicken legs, chicken left overs, every part of the chicken. If it is not processed down than do not think it can't hurt them.
WOW! Thanks for the smart ass come back. Thank you so much for making me see the light. Now I will go out and feed my boxers chicken back. Just because some dumb ass thinks it is okay. I work for a AAHA Vet look it up and the Doctors that I work for do not recommend feeding any kind of bones. This is not healthy you dumb ass this is just one part of a meal that a dog needs to consume during the day (i.e. chicken not the bones). Look up all the vitamins and oral care for dogs. DUMB ASS!!
Feeding Raw to your dog is the best possible thing you can do for him/her. And it is very healthy, you have no idea what you are talking about.
Do you think kibble is better for your dogs? Look at kibble and all the shit that is put in it. Rice, Corn, things a dog cannot digest. There are some higher quailty kibble but nothing can subsitute a raw diet.
I am not saying a raw diet is bad for your dogs. I am saying giving bones to dogs are dangerous they can splinter. I feed my dog a high quality dog food though. I also brush there teeth once every day. When you feed your dog raw food they do not get the cleaning agents they would if they were eating dry dog food. Believe it or not dogs do need there teeth cleaned just like humans. So get your facts straight look at my post before you comment
Get my facts straight? You really think feeding a dog kibble will give them the proper cleaning agents? Dogs are not designed to eat kibble. Look at their teeth all the teeth are pointed for ripping meat. I have fed my dog raw since he was a puppy and never once have I had to brush his teeth and people comment daily on how nice his teeth are.
The chicken bones will splinter ONLY when they are cooked moron. You need to do your own research on the subject before you tell other people what to do.
You are a ass O! You probably also do not believe your dog needs vaccines to keep your dog healthy. I do not give a crap what you are doing for your dog. Congrats on the complements for your dogs teeth. If you have never been to a vet and do not brush I am sure that your dogs teeth need some oral care and not just raw food to clean them.
@duckynoodle Dude, you're wrong, okay? Bones only splinter when cooked, because the cooking changes their structure. If you ever handled raw chicken bones, you'd realize that they bend and break, but don't splinter.
Raw chicken bones are fine, never give a dog cooked bones they splinter. My Boxer loves chicken backs and has never been fitter than he is on raw food.

I have to say your boxer is so cute and would hate to know that it died bcs it choked on bones from a chicken. I work for a vet and I can not tell you how many dogs have come in to have there stomach pumped bcs the owner thinks it is ok to give them table food. Just bcs it is in there dog food, does not mean it is the same. Animals can not break down human food the same way. When your dog is over weight and has colitis from being to fat you are going to be like OMG! I am a dumb ass.
You do realize that this isn't "Table" food.. right? As a person who works for a vet i would assume you'd be smarter than that. What the dog is eating is a raw chicken back... not table scraps in the least. You need to seriously do a lot more research before you preach to others on how to feed their dogs if you can't distinguish a healthy meal from a bad one.

Chicken bones are especially dangerous for dogs, as they can easily shatter and/or block airways. You should do some research before you bitch at someone.
actually, i have, the only time a bone poses a problem from a chicken is the cooked bones or the sharp bone from the thigh of a chicken carcass... nice try though...

If dogs and wolfs have eaten raw birds and other animals for Millenia(sp?)? How can it be "so" bad. I think the optimal word is RAW.
Way to go and spoil the puppy! :0)
