Anyone else see that clown put his hand on his gun? He should be demoted to mall cop after that little display. (No disrespect to mall cops, thanks for keeping the escalators free of unruly teenagers.)
its just like the cops that want to be able to film you 24/7, but if you try and take 30 seconds worth of video of them, they take your camera and try to arrest you.
What's new!!! New York City Police don't allow you to photograph anything anywhere with a tripod, unless you have a permit from the mayors office. The mayors office only gives permits to well establishes media people. This isn't a free country anymore.

Obama wants a kill switch for the internet and now they are confiscating video from citizens at Town Hall meetings
it takes law enforcement to have a police state. Police are lapdogs for the rich & ruling class. They are the rich and ruling class private army, that's why they get by with anything they are not your friends. Their job is to arrest you put you in jail or kill you when the ruling class wants to have a police state. The police will do as they are told, the police are armed and retarded they will hurt you. America say hello to your new fascist party...Tea Party Republicans.
the republicans have seen the future of the usa: a feudal state with lords and serfs, and they have now decided that they need not care about the impact of their policies on the majority of the country, the middle class and the poor. right down to stealing people's cameras under the pretext of security. as long as the lords finance their campaigns they will always find serfs to dupe into voting for them, but at the end of the day as long as the lords are happy, the republicans will continue this
We've been trained to think that it's hyperbole to say so, but no, really, THE REPUBLICAN PARTY IS BECOMING FASCIST. Look at their economic policies. Redistribution of wealth to the top is fascist. Stratisifying our economic class system is fascist. Favoring corporate rights over human rights is fascist. And then there's this kinda stuff now, too.
Give it 5 years, tops. At their current trajectory, unless something changes it's an actual fascist party.

We are taxed for buying, taxed for selling, taxed for dying, taxed for every damn thing under the sun. We need smaller government and less taxes PERIOD.. you people that want higher taxes....?.... PAY THEM YOURSELF!!!
we need taxes my friend. I believe the consensus among people asking for more taxes is that the extremely wealthy should pay them. You and I pay plenty of taxes already, nobody is doubting that... but after I pay my taxes every year I can't help reading about companys (Exon, GE, etc) who pay zero taxes at the end of the fiscal year.
@BarbadosSlim100 , I agree with reasonable and fair taxes for everyone. I see that most of those companies that are not paying taxes are buddies of Obama which is interesting. However I would still like to see more energy put forth pruning our bloated government and it's wasteful agencies than I am concerned about raising taxes just yet.
@StopIslamaphobia, On another subject, I couldn't help notice your handle "StopIslaaphobia".. I'm very afraid of Islam.. and for damn good reason! I'm more than afraid of it but not afraid to admit it! Just look at what Islam is doing for Brittain.. The 1st thing to do is recognize that you have the disease (Islamaphobia - an IRRATIONAL FEAR of Islam & anything related to it). Then you can begin steps to be cured of this disease.
We aren't taxed for dying. That's just false. And even inheritance tax is absurdly low now.
We should be taxed on income progressively or flatly with a real cost of living deduction (say $50k). I agree that taxes for anything else should be abolished, except for import tariffs.
@TheGiantRobot, Our gov. is 2 big, wasteful & corrupt. We need 2 cut it 2 a reasonable size, stop the life-long pensions for 4 politicians, make them live by the same laws they set forth such as Obamacare.. Stop making it about sharing wealth, getting something for nothing.. stop forcing people to pay for things they dont support through taxation! if U support something Donate money 2 them!! not through taxes!... don't shake down the wealthy so much that they stop investing and creating jobs.
Sharing wealth is not getting something for nothing. You understand almost nothing about economics.
Go find a deserted island and make a million dollars. Go ahead. If you somehow create anything of value whatsoever, try to keep it from being stolen. Go ahead.
If you survive your abject poverty, maybe you'll come to understand what society does for the rich and how they would be without it to suck off of.
IS THE TAKING OF THE CITEZIN'S CAMERA LEGAL OR ILLEGAL? All this talk around its wrong is just naive. I believe its WRONG too but more important was it against the law for it to be taken, that's what I want to know, along with if its illegal will that cop be punished, etc.
& if its legal then Citizens R in a really bad shape. Did this lady pursue the issue? I would've made a big deal of this in the public media (even tho they r controlled by the politicians too)! Cenk follow thru on this man!
This is why you use a phone-cam and stream the video live over your mobile data connection. That way, they can't steal your media. They can steal the camera, but not the media. Oh, and be sure to take a picture of the face of the "Security Officer" (read: Hired Goon) as he steals your camera and/or assaults you. Because then you can have his stupid ass arrested for theft and/or assault.
Almost every republican... "I think the taxes are high enough as it is." You show them a little bit of proof that they AREN'T and that they've been higher, much higher.... and they just brush it off and start acting like an idiot. (I know. The same thing happened with me debating a conservative.... I tell him raise taxes, he yells that they're currently way too high as it is..)
If you think our economy is bad now, just wait until taxes are raised.
Taxes go towards revenue for the government so spend on government programs which do not create economic growth. People have to realize jobs per se does not equate to a growing economy. An economy grows because of the private sector productive jobs. Its simple. Just look at our trade deficit... we consume far more than we produce and export.
So, Americans, what you could expect from a modern, civilized democracy is that she gets her property back (Capitalist, right?), the police explains what the exact problem was and that holds in a court, or else the police officer gets sacked.
.
Aren't town halls public property in the U.S? Regardless, police officers shouldn't be the personal goons of anybody.
But I guess it's as they say; another culture, another set of values blah blah.
Fucking rude police officer as well, does he think he is allmighty and has no rules to abide?
.
You know, in the old Soviet Union, they always checked foreign reporters cameras and recorders, and sometimes snatched them without any reason given to why, or what crime they committed.
I know, I know, the U.S never was "better" than the USSR, but this is just another example of it.
The police should act independently of the staff of any politcian, that's at least how we do it here.
I know, in countries like Nigeria, Congo, the U.S, police are actually hired guns who take action not from a standard framework of law and order, but take direct orders from bought politicians and businessmen.
.
If the camera owner did nothing wrong from the beginning, why infringe on her property when ordered to by somebody who has no say in police matters?
Good to see the American public is completely contained within official parametres. We would not enjoy troubles when raping everyone in the ass.
Oh by the way, you do not stand a chance. You think a video on youtube will do anything? You think there will be change? You can believe in? Silly peasants.
2008 RNC at the Xcel Energy Center in Minneapolis, MN. People got together to lodge a peaceful protest which is well within our rights. Cops in riot gear flooded the area and the neighboring park and made mass arrests. Everyone was arrested, even people that had nothing to do with the protest, they were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. Is this justified? Hell no. But this is America and your so called 'freedom' is becoming a thing of the past.
Obama refuses to get companies like GE to pay taxes, the left wing and right wing are the same. The rise of the police state in the USA is amusing....your president allows it.
Republicans must think the average person is dumb as shit (well, they do have their Tea Party so...) and will buy every ridiculous thing they say, hook line and sinker. You can not be a forward thinking type, you can not ask a prudent question that begs for an answer- because they don't have an answer. They avoid Q&A by shutting you down, escorting you out of the hall or having you arrested for the crime of asking a logical question. And they say us libs are extremists. Ya, whatever.
That's the republican way, they cannot show a single job that was created by their BS tax cuts to the "job creators" and now that people are calling them on it they simply use security thugs to take away the citizens ability to report on the failures of the right wing policies. The tea baggers are a complete failure and the conservative movement has failed America. The solution? just don't tell anybody!
fuck that shit, i dont know how much more proof people need of these fucking Gestapo cops need to get put in their place. Despite what this fat hunk of shit Cenk blows out his ass about 'peaceful protests' they arent going to help you when they turn fire hoses and dogs on you and get you labeled a 'terrorist', get yourself a high powered rifle, and learn to use it.
btw if you count up all federal, state, local, sales, and random taxes added on every bill my taxes add up to almost half my income... the problem isn't revenue, it's definitely spending from my perspective. I looked into what some of these taxes funded. So much waste...
@mecher3k no joke man. I live in Georgia and Georgia Power has a state mandated monopoly on energy. There are 4 indiscreet taxes propping them up on my electricity bill alone. That's phony capitalism. My att phone bill is worse. Since i don't use my line much half my bill is taxes. wtf, free society and capitalism my ass.
The whole idea of democracy has been perverted into something unrecognizable. It's so bad that the word "republic" has no meaning anymore except that it basically declares "we are lying our asses off". The "people's republics" went over the line first but what the west doesn't quite realize is that we discreetly followed them soon after.
It's sad and ironic that Americans seem to spend most of their much touted 'freedom' having to constantly complain about having that freedom taken away.
Not a surprise that a senior citizen is for increasing taxes on work, she ain't working, but she is being paid from work of others and when she worked, she never had to pay insane taxes as they are today.
SS was 2% when it started (1% personal, 1% payroll), now it's over 12% + 3% Medicare. That's 15% in just SS and Medicare. That's before any income taxes, sales taxes, import/excise/property taxes. Federal gov't and States have income taxes, those States that don't see population influx.
@romanmir01 She may not be working, but what she does get paid in pension and so on, is the result of a lifetime of paying into that system. Also, those payments are surely taxable. Regardless, it is not her fault that taxes are higher, though they certainly are not higher across the board. It seems like you are leveling charges at the 'selfish elderly' when there is no way that they deserve it. Your ire would be better aimed at the wealthy who have designed these taxes to their own benefit.
@UberNoodleX Certainly there are people who are wealthy who have designed the taxes to their own benefit, but none of the spending would pass the Congress without the voters approving of it.
Certainly a banking cartel gained much from 1913 Fed creation and IRS, but none of that would have been possible without popular support to Anti-Saloon League, which destroyed ability to collect taxes from alcohol (50% of taxes were collected from saloons)
@romanmir01 What citizens voted to extend the Bush tax cuts? There are very few referendums, and it is very clear by American politics, that regardless of who voters put in power and why, the reality of their time in power is likely to be very different. People are culpable for their government to an extent, but when corruption, extremism and ineptitude run so rampant, there's little voters can really do, except not vote, or revolt. Either way, in this current climate, they will likely lose.
Steve Chabot is TRULY Sarah Palin's DICKLESS and BALLESS BITCH and PUSSY! Nobody would dare ask Palin a question like this in a town hall without feeling the WRATH and FURY of GOD HERSELF! This is a clear sign that Sarah Palin WILL be our next and greatest President. She will lower taxes even more for everybody and completely fix our country with Palinomics!
Ohio voters are idiots for voting this guy in office. If they don't start to wake up, get fired up and fire this guy (=recall or kick him out), then Ohio are made of a majority of morons who don't care about their own liberty.
This is ridiculous. Peacefully refuse to obey any order given by any security/police in any political gathering. If they use force then they will look horrible and it will cause a scene.
@34601k you fucking pussy, if the Nazis had landed on the East Coast would you have asked nicely for them to leave? Grow a spine, this pig is violating your rights on film, and you know god damn well he's a fucking cop and they can get away with anything
@TheYoungTurks The confiscation of cameras used for documentation is against the in all states. This has been challenged in the Supreme Court, and it was ruled that documentation via video and audio is well with the rights of an American. The only stipulations was in the cases where minors and mentally disabled were involved or in the event it was used in profit as apose to documentation e.i. a news broadcast or personal for proof of testiment.
My blood boils. Not only because this is a disgusting breach of misconduct but a similar experience happened to me, and I was too timid to do anything about it. I regret it. Crooks like these need to be stood up to - smartly of course.
@sdrawkcabgnipytmi It's illegal to stop a citizen from filming a public event or place.
Hows that for the legality of it? The Supreme Court just upheld a ruling protecting the citizens right to tape/video just about everything. You could probably look up the case, it was a big 4th amendment deal.
@DeadlyChinchilla I agree with you views, & also think the cop was an idiot. But just to let you know, there are restrictions of public taping. I'm a member of SAG. If you use someone's image for the news, media, film, tv, or web which contains advertising/revenue you must obtain a "release form" from anyone appearing on video. That's why they blot out or do not show someone because they refused to sign a consent form.
@Bolgernow I appreciate the addition, but this is kind of irrelevant to the context at issue. Public places are just that, public, and NOBODY, not a civilian or an officer has an "expectation of privacy" in public places. Train stations and airports, these are public facilities. A town hall event, unless specifically meant for a private invited group, is also public. Nobody requires a release form, and nobody needs to sign one to be captured incidentally. Nobodies selling the footage for $
@DeadlyChinchilla understand you views. BUT what I am saying is WHAT YOU DO WITH THE FOOTAGE. If it's for personal non-commercial use, as it looks like here, that's fine. If not, & only if not, then it's an issue
The GOP is doing everything in their power to make sure we will have a civil war. They are either up to something, or just profoundly stupid to understand. Either way, when the crap hits the fan, these people won't find a hole to crawl into.
What a lover of the Constitution this guy is, that he had to have her first and fourth amendment rights violated. I don't know about anyone else, but that looked to me like an unreasonable seizure of her effects without probable cause.
@DRok112 completely agree, but what can she do if she is harassed by police?... can she call 911 or the police department?..or someone? Im curious. : T
@SirTimbo -aah....i see..well thats good to know. Thanks. Now i wonder if it would be a matter of finding a good lawyer?.... I wonder if Larry H. Parker.. counts o_o
Its sucks that every other politician is just like him. I'm tired of this Democrat vs. Republican bullshit. They are both essentially the same party. They are all just actors who pretend do give a shit about their constituents. Some are just better actors than others.
It is a sad state when we can't tape our own elected officials.

We should be taxed on income progressively or flatly with a real cost of living deduction (say $50k). I agree that taxes for anything else should be abolished, except for import tariffs.
TheGiantRobot 6 months ago
@TheGiantRobot, Our gov. is 2 big, wasteful & corrupt. We need 2 cut it 2 a reasonable size, stop the life-long pensions for 4 politicians, make them live by the same laws they set forth such as Obamacare.. Stop making it about sharing wealth, getting something for nothing.. stop forcing people to pay for things they dont support through taxation! if U support something Donate money 2 them!! not through taxes!... don't shake down the wealthy so much that they stop investing and creating jobs.
wbauerle 6 months ago
@wbauerle

Badangel30 6 months ago
This is why you use a phone-cam and stream the video live over your mobile data connection. That way, they can't steal your media. They can steal the camera, but not the media. Oh, and be sure to take a picture of the face of the "Security Officer" (read: Hired Goon) as he steals your camera and/or assaults you. Because then you can have his stupid ass arrested for theft and/or assault.
Fuck The Police.

It's sooooo stupid.
MyPaperBleedsInk 6 months ago
Raising taxes hinders the growth of an economy.

StopIslamaphobia 6 months ago
So, Americans, what you could expect from a modern, civilized democracy is that she gets her property back (Capitalist, right?), the police explains what the exact problem was and that holds in a court, or else the police officer gets sacked.
.
Aren't town halls public property in the U.S? Regardless, police officers shouldn't be the personal goons of anybody.
But I guess it's as they say; another culture, another set of values blah blah.
underbjorn 6 months ago
Fucking rude police officer as well, does he think he is allmighty and has no rules to abide?
.
You know, in the old Soviet Union, they always checked foreign reporters cameras and recorders, and sometimes snatched them without any reason given to why, or what crime they committed.
I know, I know, the U.S never was "better" than the USSR, but this is just another example of it.
underbjorn 6 months ago
The police should act independently of the staff of any politcian, that's at least how we do it here.
I know, in countries like Nigeria, Congo, the U.S, police are actually hired guns who take action not from a standard framework of law and order, but take direct orders from bought politicians and businessmen.
.
If the camera owner did nothing wrong from the beginning, why infringe on her property when ordered to by somebody who has no say in police matters?
Otherwise why arrest here only after?

2008 RNC at the Xcel Energy Center in Minneapolis, MN. People got together to lodge a peaceful protest which is well within our rights. Cops in riot gear flooded the area and the neighboring park and made mass arrests. Everyone was arrested, even people that had nothing to do with the protest, they were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. Is this justified? Hell no. But this is America and your so called 'freedom' is becoming a thing of the past.

The whole idea of democracy has been perverted into something unrecognizable.
Federal gov't and States have income taxes, those States that don't see population influx.
romanmir01 6 months ago
@romanmir01 She may not be working, but what she does get paid in pension and so on, is the result of a lifetime of paying into that system. Also, those payments are surely taxable. Regardless, it is not her fault that taxes are higher, though they certainly are not higher across the board. It seems like you are leveling charges at the 'selfish elderly' when there is no way that they deserve it. Your ire would be better aimed at the wealthy who have designed these taxes to their own benefit.
UberNoodleX 6 months ago
@UberNoodleX Certainly there are people who are wealthy who have designed the taxes to their own benefit, but none of the spending would pass the Congress without the voters approving of it.
Certainly a banking cartel gained much from 1913 Fed creation and IRS, but none of that would have been possible without popular support to Anti-Saloon League, which destroyed ability to collect taxes from alcohol (50% of taxes were collected from saloons)
People are culpable for their gov't.
romanmir01 6 months ago
@romanmir01 What citizens voted to extend the Bush tax cuts? There are very few referendums, and it is very clear by American politics, that regardless of who voters put in power and why, the reality of their time in power is likely to be very different. People are culpable for their government to an extent, but when corruption, extremism and ineptitude run so rampant, there's little voters can really do, except not vote, or revolt. Either way, in this current climate, they will likely lose.

I wonder what the legality of this is...
sdrawkcabgnipytmi 6 months ago
@sdrawkcabgnipytmi It's illegal to stop a citizen from filming a public event or place.
Hows that for the legality of it? The Supreme Court just upheld a ruling protecting the citizens right to tape/video just about everything. You could probably look up the case, it was a big 4th amendment deal.

@DeadlyChinchilla
Thank you kindly.
sdrawkcabgnipytmi 6 months ago
@DeadlyChinchilla I agree with you views, & also think the cop was an idiot. But just to let you know, there are restrictions of public taping. I'm a member of SAG. If you use someone's image for the news, media, film, tv, or web which contains advertising/revenue you must obtain a "release form" from anyone appearing on video. That's why they blot out or do not show someone because they refused to sign a consent form.
Bolgernow 6 months ago
@Bolgernow I appreciate the addition, but this is kind of irrelevant to the context at issue. Public places are just that, public, and NOBODY, not a civilian or an officer has an "expectation of privacy" in public places. Train stations and airports, these are public facilities. A town hall event, unless specifically meant for a private invited group, is also public. Nobody requires a release form, and nobody needs to sign one to be captured incidentally. Nobodies selling the footage for $
DeadlyChinchilla 6 months ago 2
@DeadlyChinchilla understand you views. BUT what I am saying is WHAT YOU DO WITH THE FOOTAGE. If it's for personal non-commercial use, as it looks like here, that's fine. If not, & only if not, then it's an issue
