@MrMeddled Stacy wrote and sang this, and he rocks as much as Roky. Life wasn't fair to either of them. Stacy deserved to live, and have a second chance at success in music. And Roky deserves better than he's gotten out of life, to say the very least. Two amazing singer/songwriter/guitarists, gifted in music!
The jug was essential to their sound. It powered the songs like an echoed electronic pulse, particularly on Easter Everywhere. Hardly "repetitive", it is played rhythmically , and undulates..and makes their music uniquely "psychedelic." The jug does appear on "Never Another" on BOTW but is a less dominant, rather fluid, sound that curls like tendrils.
@newenglishsound thanks for the details, couldn't remember them (been a while since I read "Eye Mind")...r.i.p. Stacy Sutherland who was truly most responsible for the 13th Floor SOUND till the end (Roky gave the voice, Tommy the words / vision) although he covers all 3 in this beautiful creation...a nice rare break from the jug!
The entire album "Bull of the Woods" is free of the Sonic Love Jug. I was never a fan of it, but to each their own. Stacy Sutherland sings lead on this one, BTW.
Same here. Afraid for me the bloody jug virtually ruins the Elevators as a listening experience; & that's while considering some of their stuff as good as it otherwise gets.
Yeah, Rocky only played in four songs, but I don't think he actually wrote any on this one. It was probably Tommy Hall or Stacy Sutherland who wrote it.
Stacy wrote it. The lyrics are about a nightmare experience he had on LSD while playing a set with the Elevators. Apparently the crowd morphed into angels ("brand new smile on a brand new angel face") and the concert turned into a judgment for him ("you're here to stay until your last living breath is complete!"). The angels then proceeded to tell him things about his future, which he was never specific about in interviews, but maybe are referenced to an extent in these lyrics. Epic song!
Haha, thanks. You know I think I might do that. Scarlet and Gold is a very catchy song. I'm also taking a trip tonight, so my mind will be fresh with ideas for the video.
Few folks are just appreciative, just have hearts with no peace, always criticizing!

Beautiful music. I always get up at 5AM during the summer solstice, and listen to this song as the sun comes up. It's a truely spiritual experience.

It's OK, we're doing research. There's no entertainment happening.
You could send him something of equal value, should you find yourself becoming entertained

It's very similar to The Doors, both music and Morrisonesque vocals.

I'm not much of a fan of the jug either. I think its too dominating, and repetitive.
