When self employed driving the M25 around Thurrock and up the A12 to Ipswich this music was ideal for motorway ! Ahhh, those were the days - great music, great runs and nice people (well, mostly) APP has (and is) a constant companion on the road.
Instrumentals are always far superior to other forms of music. Lyrics dictate what and how you should feel about a song, with an instrumental its up to you to interprete it yourself!
yeah schnertblatt... I can just see F-14s jumping off the deck and shoving into overdrive using this music... would have also been good choice for the Mirramar Air Combat Maneuvring over the desert floor later in the movie..when Mav and Goose were after Jester.. and oh damn is that the hard deck we just went through..major bummer. LOL
@ramtes1971 Hmmm... perhaps in keeping with the 'naval' aspect.. they should be Yak 36 / 38 / 41 / 141. V-STOL's.. often referred to as "jump jets".. They could be "jumping off the deck" and shoving into over-drive. Though probably not as impressive as having the flight crew.. saluting pilots... and doing aerobic moves to the launching of the planes.. a-la ... U.S. carrier crews. :-)
"In the Lap of the Gods" is I think the Best instrumental, followed by Gold Bug and Ace of Swords. Then this one. Having said that, I'd have to say that this is the tightest of them all.
APP always seemed to have 1 or more fantastic instrumentals per album. I have to say that I still find the Fall of the House of Usher series very compelling. And I, Robot was just incredible at the time. For those of you who haven't had a chance, check these out:
Mammagamma, Nucleus, Total Eclipse, Lucifer, Voyager, Dream within a Dream, Genesis Ch.1V.32, Secret Garden, Paseo de Garcia
It is for me impossible to choose the best instumental of The APP, but I can't forget that I have become a fan this wonderful group after listening to Pipeline.
The saxophone is an instrument that fits well with some of the greatest instrumental songs of The APP (like this one, Pipeline and The Gold Bug)
@Fernandocatan I became a fan after their first: Tales Of Mystery and Imagination, by Edgar Allan Poe....way back in the 80's....love the genre and style....
@gvbezoff he may have been reffering to the 1987 cd version of tales of....... perhaps it was this updated version to the 1976 classic when he was introduced to erics first written music tripute to poe
I was in the Navy for many years. While I was not in Naval Aviation, I liked "Top Gun". I wish this music was the title music where they were launching the planes from the aircraft carrier. Much better than "Danger Zone"!
This, in my opinion, is the best instrumental piece the Alan Parsons Project did, and that's saying a lot, considering how great their other instrumental pieces are.
dunno guys i'd put gold bug above this thats for sure...thats not to mention pipeline...those two AP's instrumental songs are unmatched in my opinion...
The song somehow reminds me to Frankie goes to Hollywood's "Welcome to the Pleasuredome" which has been released shortly before the recordings of "Stereotomy" began...
there have been comparrisons i dont think the walrus instrumental and frankies pleasuredome are similliar perhaps its the over all feel or sound of the albums i should relisten to them or find tracks to frankies album to see the link to parsons/woolfsons stereotomy project
This is one of the greatest instrumental works by the Project =)

Why does this video not have millions of views?

@gvbezoff
most people have it on cd or album,,,so there's no real need to search for it on you tube. either that or they are all wrecked :)
ghola2010 11 months ago
@gvbezoff Because hardly anybody recognizes quality music these days. It's all about money cars and clothes. Too bad.

I don't see how anybody could have trouble finding this album. Amazon has it in stock and is selling it for a mere $7.98.

You know, I'd consider arguing the point with Sirius, but that's really just the intro to Eye In The Sky, while Walrus is a stand alone piece.
